After letting out an irritated sigh, Kate Grant angrily tossed her phone onto the table, as if she never wanted to touch the thing again.

It had been one of her subordinates calling her.

Even though it was the weekend, roughly half of the employees at CatCo Media Group were still at their posts, since their days off and shifts varied. A successful media company had to broadcast around the clock, after all. And because of the nature of the news business, even major holidays required essential staff to be on duty—never mind an ordinary weekend.

There was one exception, though. One person got to enjoy her weekends as usual, without overtime or rotating shifts: the company's CEO, Kate Grant.

Today was Saturday, so she didn't have to go to work.

At this time every week, she could sit contentedly beneath the oak tree in the little courtyard in her back garden, leisurely sipping beauty-enhancing tea and eating a layered biscuit. She might read the news or flip through a magazine aimed at women, enjoying her own quiet weekend.

She used to love this kind of leisurely break, when she could completely escape her busy, stressful work life and truly relax. But today, she couldn't lose herself in her own world as she usually did. Every so often, she looked up at the clear sky, as if she were waiting for or worrying about something.

And she wasn't the only one. Her housekeeper, Ella, stood beside her, also gazing up at the sky.
