These were the sounds of machines at work in a massive arms factory, located in a cavern more than a thousand meters beneath the surface of Geonosis!
In workshops carved out of the planet's underground caverns and transformed from the Geonosians' subterranean spaces, rows of fully automated B1 battle droid production lines had been installed! Along those clanging and sizzling assembly lines, great quantities of molten steel were poured into square metal ingots. In less than a second, the ingots were placed on the line and rapidly cooled until they solidified. Then heavy mechanical arms and stamping hammers pounded them again and again, shaping them into blocks or into forms resembling "arms and legs."
Soon, after only a few rounds of rough pounding, the pieces had been shaped to standard specifications. Still glowing red-hot and not yet fully cooled, they were quickly sent to the next stage, where mechanical arms on the assembly line etched circuits into the cheap metal plates and limbs and installed the cheapest control chipsets.
As the assembly line crept forward automatically, the metal plates, hastily etched with circuits and fitted with chips, were mounted directly onto the mechanical "arms and legs" emerging from another line. Then, after some equally crude but relatively reliable metal components were added, the robot's scorching-hot torso was more or less assembled.
Although it took dozens of steps for a component to go from being poured from molten steel to being installed in a standard B1 battle droid, the entire process took less than ten minutes!
