Columbia University.
Finney's enrollment didn't cause much of a stir; it was ordinary, much like anyone else's. Even though the Ancient One had told him he could greatly influence this world.
Since he didn't plan on living on campus, he wasn't assigned a dorm initially. However, because the school wasn't close to home, he decided to rent a place.
"You really don't want me to drive you?"
In the new apartment, Skye surveyed the facilities and asked Finney.
"No, I'll likely need to go to the Sanctum often, so living out here is more convenient." Finney shook his head, rejecting Skye's offer.
Skye didn't insist. After nodding, she unexpectedly said, "Okay, then I'll move in too."
Because he wasn't short on money, the apartment Finney rented wasn't small, and there was indeed an empty room. But he hadn't expected Skye to say that and was stunned. "What are you moving in for?"
"It's comfortable living here." Skye gave Finney a strange look and replied, "People at the shop keep asking when you'll be back, it's too noisy. And staying home all the time feels a bit awkward. Since you have school every day, I can be online here without anyone bothering me."
Hearing Skye's answer, Finney felt depressed. He scratched his head and cautiously suggested, "Speaking of which, you're already an adult, not exactly young anymore. Aren't you considering independence?"
As soon as he said that, Skye's face turned bright red with embarrassment, and she immediately said indignantly, "I... I can pay rent, okay? Just consider it as us renting together."
Then, as if thinking of another reason, she added righteously, "If my parents weren't worried about you not taking care of yourself, I wouldn't be coming over. Do you think I want to live with you!"
"Hmph!"
After the young girl let out a full-throated hmph, Skye went straight upstairs to tidy her room, leaving a bewildered Finney standing there.
Finney had nothing to say about this sister he had doted on since she was little. Living together might be better. New York was so chaotic; it truly wasn't safe for a pretty girl like her sometimes.
University life was easier than Finney had imagined. The major he chose was quite niche, so he didn't have many classes and had a lot of free time each day.
At school, he was mainly studying Ancient Sanskrit. He hadn't actually read most of the Kamar-Taj books yet because the current translation software wasn't very mature.
He had even tried having Skye help him research and create some, but due to a lack of knowledge and data, the translation results were still very poor.
Therefore, all his previous reading and studying involved asking others for translation help, and he couldn't keep bothering them, making the efficiency very low.
Another bright afternoon.
With no classes, Finney was in the living room, diligently studying textbooks borrowed from the school. Beside him, Skye was flipping through a fashion magazine with a bored expression.
Soon, however, she threw down the magazine, lay back on the soft sofa, and used her feet to nudge Finney, complaining, "It's Tony Stark again. This guy is everywhere."
"You've been reading that book for almost a month, aren't you bored? Also, the weather seems to be getting colder again. How about I go with you to buy some clothes!"
Listening to Skye chatter incessantly beside him like a sparrow, Finney helplessly closed his book and glared at her. "I really shouldn't have agreed to let you move in. And don't you already have enough clothes?"
"It's for you to buy clothes," Skye first tried to correct him with a straight face, then added with a grin, "At most, I'll pick out a few things for myself too."
Finney sighed. He glanced at the sky outside. Since it was November, such good weather was indeed rare.
He withdrew his gaze and looked at Skye's expectant face. He nodded helplessly. His peripheral vision caught the fashion magazine tossed aside earlier, its cover featuring Stark in a suit. He couldn't help but ask, "Didn't I remember you used to really like Tony Stark?"
Following Finney's gaze to the magazine, Skye curled her lips disdainfully. "I admired his technology and inventions, but I've realized this guy is just a playboy!"
"That's not necessarily true!"
Finney looked at the energetic Tony Stark on the magazine cover and said with some emotion, "He's going to become a hero!"
"A hero!?"
Skye looked at him with a strange expression. Tony Stark had many titles: super-rich, scientific genius, playboy, but almost no one ever associated him with being a hero.
"He loves peace very much."
Finney shrugged. As a tradition among masters and disciples, he didn't really have a hobby of revealing too much.
"He runs an arms company!"
Skye replied speechlessly, then didn't dwell on the topic. She excitedly ran back to her room to put on makeup and get ready.
After spending the entire afternoon shopping with Skye, Finney arrived at the New York Sanctum in the evening and opened a portal to Kamar-Taj.
The cool morning air invigorated him. In the past few months at Kamar-Taj, his experience gain was equivalent to several years prior.
His experience bar, which had been emptied after drawing 'Possessed by Evil Spirit', was now more than half full again without him realizing it.
However, this speed had recently slowed down. Firstly, his talent and time were not as abundant, and he had to focus a lot of energy on translating and reading. Secondly, he couldn't find anyone to spar with for experience.
Not many sorcerers enjoyed combat. Mordo also had his own matters recently and couldn't be bothered all the time, so Finney often couldn't find anyone to spar with.
While pondering how to solve this problem, Finney walked towards the training ground. Along the way, he encountered a slightly chubby figure and greeted him, "Good morning, Wong, you're here today too!"
At this time, Wong was not yet the librarian who would greet Doctor Strange. He was currently a guardian of the Hong Kong Sanctum and didn't appear at Kamar-Taj often.
"Good morning, Master Finney." Wong returned the greeting politely, then walked up to Finney and asked in a low voice, "Do you have any Sumire's Fried Chicken Rolls?"
"Uh, isn't it a bit too greasy for breakfast?"
Despite saying that, Finney skillfully summoned a 'Sumire's Fried Chicken Roll' and handed it over.
Wong took it, sniffed it, and showed an expression of bliss. Then, he said unconcernedly, "It's fine, I've already had breakfast, it doesn't affect anything."
"..."
Finney was speechless.
Meeting Wong, he knew today's experience was secured. Wong's strength was slightly inferior to Mordo's, but he was still one of the better opponents. Especially since Wong's combat style wasn't as agile as Mordo's.
After months of training, Finney had actually grown considerably, not in terms of spells, of course.
With enriched combat experience and equipped with 'Possessed by Evil Spirit', he was now considered one of the experts at Kamar-Taj, specifically in terms of combat power.
