Two months had passed since Skye arrived at Kamar-Taj. Skye called to inform Feeney that school was starting soon.
Before coming to Kamar-Taj, he had applied to Columbia University in New York. With his excellent grades, he was accepted without any surprises, and now it was time to report to the school.
Not only that, but after being away from home for two full months, his parents were worried to death. If they hadn't been in contact every few days and Skye hadn't been there to help, he would have returned long ago.
Feeney was reluctant to leave the rhythm of life at Kamar-Taj. The main reason was that he couldn't bear to part with his "experience babies." The experience gained here in one month was equivalent to his entire previous year's accumulation.
Feeney began to consider taking a year off from school to focus on studying magic here.
But what he didn't expect was that when he told Teacher Ancient One about this idea, he was rejected without hesitation.
"Feeney, don't forget what I told you. Don't let power control you. You should have your own life. Go back. Kamar-Taj will always welcome you back."
Feeney lowered his head and pondered. He suddenly realized that Teacher Ancient One was right. He had become somewhat obsessed with gaining experience during this period. If, one day, he discovered a more effective way to gain experience, would he stop at nothing to achieve it!?
Feeney let out a light breath. The dangerous pressure made him desperately want to improve his strength, but he couldn't ignore the people around him.
After thinking it through, Feeney suddenly felt his whole body lighten considerably. If he were to express it in terms of data, it would be Mental Power +1. Of course, it was still not enough to open a Portal.
So, just how monstrous was Doctor Strange's magical talent!?
"Thank you, Master!"
After thanking Teacher Ancient One, Feeney decided to go back to school. But this didn't mean he was giving up on gaining experience. Since there was the New York Sanctum as a transit point, coming to Kamar-Taj wasn't that difficult.
Besides, with the time difference, when it was evening for him, it was morning there.
Most of the Sorcerers at Kamar-Taj were reluctant to see Feeney leave, mainly because they were unwilling to part with the delicious Sumire's Fried Chicken Rolls. This included Mordo, who had spent the most time with him recently.
"By the way, where did you learn this spell?"
Watching Feeney skillfully summon a 'Sumire's Fried Chicken Roll' and hand it over, Mordo accepted it with mixed feelings. This junior brother, not old, not particularly talented, yet favored by the Master, always exuded a sense of mystery.
"This is a talent magic, you know? It's like a skill you're born with, exclusive. Others can't learn it. I'm not bragging, even Teacher Ancient One can't learn this."
Actually, more than one person had asked about the 'Sumire's Fried Chicken Roll'. If it were a recipe that required self-provided materials, he would gladly teach it. But how to do it like him, using a skill, that was impossible to teach.
This was unlike 'Possessed by Evil Spirit,' which had a carrier. 'Sumire's Fried Chicken Roll' was just purely unreasonable. Although he once thought it was useless, it had now become the key to his interpersonal relationships.
In two months, who in all of Kamar-Taj hadn't eaten Feeney's exclusive 'Sumire's Fried Chicken Roll'? Even many who guarded the Sanctums came back specifically to ask for a few to take away every day. They felt uncomfortable if they didn't eat one a day.
He had practically become the feeder of the Kamar-Taj Sorcerers.
"I'm leaving now, Senior Brother. Although I might be back soon, you can find me in New York if anything comes up."
In the courtyard, Feeney said goodbye to Mordo. Since he couldn't open a Portal himself, he could only ask someone else to open one for him, or use the Portal from the Library as a transit.
"Goodbye. Don't neglect your training."
Although they had only spent two months together, Mordo felt a sense of reluctance watching Feeney prepare to leave.
Perhaps it was because his arrival had brought a different atmosphere to the peaceful and serene Sanctum!
Watching Feeney's smiling, waving figure disappear, Mordo thought silently in his heart.
Although he was nominally going on vacation, Feeney actually brought nothing back with him.
Kamar-Taj might be returning in a few days, so there wasn't much to bring. As for things from the surrounding towns, Skye had already taken a batch back as gifts earlier. He didn't want to buy so many useless items.
Therefore, when his parents saw Feeney return home empty-handed, they were a bit surprised. If he hadn't actually disappeared for two months and his skin and body hadn't shown clear signs of tanning and strengthening, they would have thought he had merely gone out for a walk.
"Why didn't you say anything beforehand when you came back!"
Despite finding Feeney's appearance a bit awkward, his mother immediately came over, showing concern while also complaining, "Did anything happen to you while you were out? Why didn't you come back with your Sister? You've gotten so tanned."
Feeney chuckled happily and didn't argue with his parents. After the family happily had dinner, just as he was about to go rest, Skye pulled him into her room.
"How was it? Did you learn it after I left?" As soon as she entered the room, Skye asked impatiently, full of curiosity. Although she could see other Sorcerers casting spells at Kamar-Taj, they had practiced for years, and it was far less interesting than Feeney, who learned and grew alongside her.
Feeney didn't speak. He simply conjured his flickering Raggadorr's Ring on his right hand.
"You succeeded!?"
Skye's mood was complex. There was a sense of expected joy, mixed with a bit of disappointment that she couldn't learn it herself.
Noticing the expression on Skye's face, Feeney dispelled the spell and lightly tapped her forehead with his finger, comforting her, "It's still a long way from mastering it. My talent isn't enough. I'll probably only be able to master two spells in this lifetime."
"You call this not enough talent?" Skye became even more depressed. Then what would she be considered? Not having any talent at all!?
"Far from it!"
Feeney thought of Doctor Strange again. That kind of talent was truly exceptional. If his Mental Power hadn't broken through before, he wouldn't have been able to conjure the Raggadorr's Ring even now.
For a moment, the mood in the room turned somber for both of them.
However, Feeney quickly adjusted. He still had the system. In the future, he didn't have to rely solely on being a Sorcerer. And currently, relying purely on 'Possessed by Evil Spirit,' he was already stronger than most Sorcerers.
But seeing Skye's dejected look, Feeney thought for a moment and then reminded her, "Actually, don't be too disappointed. Master once told me that you might have other powers within you, just not developed yet."
Teacher Ancient One had never said that, but wasn't a Master meant to be used as an excuse? Just like the 'Possessed by Evil Spirit' before, after saying it was a gift from Teacher Ancient One, how many people dared to question Teacher Ancient One directly, except for the envious Mordo?
"Really?"
Skye looked up in surprise, then grabbed Feeney's arm and pressed, "What kind of power is it? How do I develop it?"
"The time isn't right yet," Feeney shook his head, not saying too much. However, after some thought, he added, "Perhaps it's related to vibrations?"
"Huh!?"
This wasn't the first time Feeney had mentioned his vibration ability. He'd brought it up a few times before, but Skye hadn't paid it much mind. Now, she finally understood.
"Why is it vibration?!"
Skye asked, completely baffled.
"How should I know?" Feeney rolled his eyes, muttering inwardly, You should ask your alien genes about that.
"Anyway, you can research this area when you have time. It might be useful later." After giving that final piece of advice, Feeney returned to his room to rest.
