Background

Wu Tie was the fourth son of Wu Zhan of the Wu Family. Unlike his powerful father and elder brothers, he was frail from childhood and could not properly practice the Wu Family’s violent Sky-Breaking Fist. He nevertheless trained in secret, enduring pain and exhaustion in pursuit of strength. 2 9

He was raised alongside Gray Rock Lizards and showed unusual concern for the Wu Family’s slaves and defeated enemies. Master Hui encouraged him to seek his own path rather than measure his worth solely by martial power, nurturing Wu Tie’s interest in books, poetry, questions, and inherited knowledge. 2 3

Wu Zhan gave Wu Tie the Wu Family’s captured heirloom, Chi You’s Fang, and promised that he would eventually meet his mother and younger sister. 2 Before that could happen, hostile cultivators annihilated the Wu Family’s defenders. Wu Zhan and Wu Tie’s brothers died, while Wu Jin knelt and sacrificed himself to save Wu Tie. 5 6

Wu Tie was cast into the underground waters beneath Wu Valley and survived in an isolated basin. There he encountered Old Tie, a white metal skull who offered him a route to cultivation and revenge. 7 8

The destruction of his family leaves him driven by revenge, but not devoid of empathy. He is disturbed by betrayal, closes the eyes of a slain Ox Tribe warrior, and struggles to kill enemies even after declaring war against the Mist Blades and Longevity Cult. 8 26 43

He is possessive of the underground basin, viewing its creatures, resources, Old Tie, and the Ancient Divine Weapon Camp as his responsibility. He repeatedly insists that outsiders must not fight in his territory, then openly declares war when larger factions occupy and exploit it. 19 20 39
