The behavior of an Undying Zombie was not based on the creature's own consciousness, but on "instructions" set by the virus to ensure its continuation.
From the perspective of consciousness, the infected person's self-awareness had disappeared. The Undying Virus was controlling the body.
But that was the process by which a normal life-form became an Undying Zombie after being infected with the Undying Virus.

In other words, although the virus had killed Wang Yu, it had failed to take control of his body.
Wang Yu's current flesh was a collective generated by the virus devouring his flesh, but his consciousness was still the original Wang Yu.
