Chapter 37: Samsara (Please vote for me~)
"Your Majesty, can we crush that human brat to death now?" A massive green ox beside the carriage spoke in a deep, rumbling voice.
"Not yet~"
The girl's voice was slightly hoarse, with a teasing, alluring lilt. After speaking, she grabbed Shi Lan's arm once more and gave it a gentle lick.
The corner of Shi Lan's eye twitched. The girl had licked the same spot three times in a row; by now, the bones in Shi Lan's arm were plainly visible.
After sucking away the blood seeping from around Shi Lan's wound, the girl narrowed her eyes in contentment.
"Your Majesty, let's move on to the next human city. Why waste time here on human ants?" A snow leopard less than a zhang long bounded up beside the carriage, sounding somewhat impatient.
"How I choose to act is none of your concern." The girl's emerald-green, slit-pupiled eyes turned cold as they fixed on the snow leopard.
"Your Majesty, I know I was wrong..."
The snow leopard met the girl's gaze and shuddered all over. It immediately prostrated itself, speaking with a terrified expression.
But before it could finish, an enormous, invisible force enveloped it.
"Pfft—"
With a muffled thud, the snow leopard was instantly crushed into a cloud of blood mist.
The other demons nearby, who had been growing restless, all lowered their heads at the sight, too frightened to make a sound.
The girl parted her lips and drew in a deep breath, sucking the blood mist left by the snow leopard into her mouth and nose. Then she frowned in disgust. "It reeks."
As if to rinse her mouth, the girl licked away another piece of Shi Lan's flesh. Then she raised a finger and pointed toward Shi Feng in the distance.
Shi Feng felt the weight on his body lift; the force suppressing him vanished without a trace.
Shi Feng stared at the girl on the carriage, raised his hand, and beckoned. The long saber lying off to one side flew back into his grip.
Gripping the hilt tightly, Shi Feng's thoughts churned. From the moment his memories began, he had wandered alone, hungry and cold. Then, fifteen years ago, he had first entered the Shi Mansion, where he had never wanted for food or clothing. And now, faced with the boundless tide of beasts, he was at a loss.
In the span of a few moments, his past flashed through his mind like scenes in a revolving lantern. At last, it settled on Shi Lan's smile as she bathed in the morning light.
Shi Feng's heart gradually settled. If Shi Tianlu hadn't saved him when he was on the verge of starving to death in a snowy night, he wouldn't have lived to see this day. He'd been given fifteen extra years; he ought to be content...
The Xiantian True Qi within him began to flow slowly. Starting from his dantian, it poured through his limbs and bones like a clear spring. The current grew faster and faster, until it became a raging river in full flood.
In that instant, Shi Feng suddenly felt as though his spirit had been sublimated. A surge of exhilaration welled up within him.
He raised his saber and pointed it across the boundless tide of beasts before him. His aura drew in to the utmost, his expression neither joyful nor sorrowful, as an invisible force began to gather around him.
Life and death no longer mattered...
"Your Majesty, what exactly are you trying to do?" The green ox couldn't help asking again.
The girl had released Shi Feng from his restraint, yet she wouldn't let them attack.
"This human brat is at the seventh layer of the Xiantian Realm. Pick two demons at the seventh layer and send them to face him." The girl issued the order with a languid air.
The green ox did as instructed, selecting two seventh-layer Xiantian Realm wolf demons and ordering them to attack.
"Your Majesty, can you tell me what this is all about?" The green ox returned to the girl's side and asked.
"A human martial artist's blood will flow faster as the battle grows more intense, surging up to the head and neck. Then their face will flush, and their head will be drenched in sweat." As she spoke, the girl seemed to recall something, and her expression grew excited.
"If you cut off a human martial artist's head at the very instant their blood reaches its peak, it will gush from their neck, spraying more than ten zhang into the air!"
A feverish glint of excitement flashed through the girl's eyes. "The stronger the martial artist, the higher their blood will spray. That's the sight this king loves most!"
Listening to the girl's horrifying words, Shi Lan couldn't stop the chill creeping through her heart.
Only now did Shi Lan truly understand what it meant for those who were not of her kind to have hearts unlike hers.
No matter how exquisite the girl's features were, no matter that she wore a human skin, a beast was still a beast. It could never become human!
By now, the two seventh-layer Xiantian Realm wolf demons were less than fifty zhang from Shi Feng.
With the tip of his saber pointed at the ground, Shi Feng stepped forward, walking one unhurried step at a time.
The distance between them shrank rapidly.
When the two wolf demons came within ten zhang of Shi Feng, the saber in his hand stirred. A terrifying, razor-sharp saber aura burst from him in every direction.
The two wolf demons seemed to sense something. Fear flashed in their eyes as they tried desperately to stop, but it was already too late.
The moment they entered within five zhang of Shi Feng, the two wolf demons were torn apart by the terrifying saber aura crisscrossing through the air, turning into a rain of blood!
At the sight, the girl stood up in surprise. After studying Shi Feng for a moment, her expression grew even more excited. "Saber intent—he's actually gathered saber intent!"
To gather the great force of heaven and earth and wield it at such a young age—he had to be a human prodigy. The thought of beheading a human prodigy right here made the girl's body tremble faintly with excitement.
"Heavens favor our Demon Race! Heavens favor Your Majesty! We actually stumbled across a human prodigy with no Dao Protector at his side!" The green ox nearby panted in excitement, too.
"This king is going to have some fun with him. A prodigy who hasn't yet come into his own—just thinking about it is thrilling." The girl licked her lips, then flashed to Shi Feng's side.
The terrifying saber aura raging in every direction around them vanished without a trace as it touched the girl, as though it had been swallowed.
Shi Feng's step faltered slightly, then he strode forward with even greater resolve. He swept the saber up in reverse grip, and a massive, translucent saber image came crashing down from the sky.
There was not the slightest trace of fear or unease in Shi Feng's eyes, only indifference. It was as if the figure before him were merely a minor demon he could kill with a casual strike—not an unrivaled Demon King who had already taken human form.
An invincible force, fearless and selfless, had gathered around Shi Feng. No matter who stood before him, he would swing his long saber without hesitation.
The girl glanced up at the phantom saber image, the corners of her mouth lifting. She flicked a finger, and a terrifying blast of force shot from her body. The phantom saber image shattered in midair.
Sitting on the carriage and watching helplessly, Shi Lan was suddenly overcome by a sense of powerlessness. She was too weak.
"I can help you."
A somewhat familiar voice suddenly spoke in Shi Lan's mind. She jolted, her only movable body part—the eyes—darting in every direction.
"Don't bother looking. I'm inside your body. This is my first time communicating with a host, so I'm not quite used to it. Please forgive me. Allow me to introduce myself. It's our first exchange, Shi Lan. I'm the backend of the Heavens Reincarnation System. You can call me Samsara..."
