Background / History

Captivity and Escape

Su Mo recalls that Tian Meng was hunted by the Ice Empress at thirteen and fell into a cavern containing ten-thousand-year profound ice. After reaching nine hundred thousand years of cultivation, he escaped through the sea and eventually entered the Star Dou Great Forest. His attempt to protect himself with a devastating beast tide failed, and the Ferocious Beasts captured him to drain his Soul Power 5.

Froggy finds Tian Meng in the Ferocious Beasts’ sleeping grounds beneath the Lake of Life. Tian Meng eagerly accepts an invitation to Froggy’s home and escapes into the pocket dimension. His disappearance prompts the Myriad Demon King to mobilize a search 5 6.

Sacrifice to Su Mo

Su Mo shows Tian Meng an illusion containing the stories of the first three Douluo installments. The projected future includes ten thousand years of captivity, his partnership with Yuhao as a Wisdom Soul Ring, and Yuhao’s eventual godhood. Tian Meng has not yet conceived his god-creation plan before seeing this information 6.

Tian Meng agrees to become Su Mo’s Wisdom Soul Ring after securing promises that Su Mo will reserve a place for the Ice Empress and avenge his captivity. Using the projected story, he quickly reconstructs the Wisdom Soul Ring method. He unexpectedly reaches a million years during the sacrifice, but a terrifying external energy threatens the pocket dimension, forcing him to finish merging with Su Mo 7.

His body becomes a skull Soul Bone, while his consciousness survives inside Su Mo. The loss of his physical body also destroys the Myriad Demon King’s tracking mark, which depended on both life origin and spiritual origin 7 10.

Adviser and Researcher

Su Mo credits an allegedly elderly “Grandmaster Tian Meng” with his martial-soul teachings. He proposes spreading Tian Meng’s name alongside the theories as a possible route to godhood through faith. Tian Meng subsequently works on expanding the Ten Laws of Martial Souls and regards Yu Xiaogang as a theoretical rival 13 16 31.

Su Mo later assigns him to adapt the Mysterious Heaven Treasure Record into Soul Skills. Tian Meng develops Threefold Return to Origin and continues refining it over the following years. By the time Su Mo reaches Suotuo City, Tian Meng uses multiple consciousness threads to research while keeping one manifestation free to relax 34 35 40.

Appearance

Tian Meng’s physical body resembles an enormous baby silkworm, over seven meters long 6.

  • Body: Translucent and lustrous like white jade, with light flowing beneath the skin 6.
  • Head and eyes: A plump, rounded head and tiny golden eyes 6.
  • Golden bands: Nine before his breakthrough; a tenth appears upon reaching a million years 6 7.
  • Spiritual form: Appears as a chibi silkworm within Su Mo’s Sea of Consciousness. Later manifests multiple baby-silkworm forms to divide his work 7 40.

Personality

Despite his immense cultivation, Tian Meng has little experience with people and is described as innocent rather than unintelligent. He is boastful and playful, misses Su Mo’s sarcasm, and proudly accepts being called a “big genius.” His attachment to the Ice Empress is strong enough that Su Mo’s promise to reserve her a place immediately settles their partnership 7.

His professed respectability does not prevent him from helping Su Mo manipulate others. After denying that he uses underhanded control techniques, he suggests combining illusions with Emotion Control to frighten Xiao Wu. He also enjoys devising ways to exploit Tang San’s gratitude and watching Yu Xiaogang’s embarrassment 9 12 17 18.

Tian Meng remains frightened of his former captors and briefly panics when he learns they are still searching for him. He is nevertheless dependable in emergencies, intervening when Su Mo’s absorption attempts become dangerous. His frequent complaints about overwork eventually develop into the argument that, as Su Mo’s “angel investor,” he should receive dividends rather than perform all the labor 19 28 35 40.

Abilities & Skills

Spiritual Power and Barriers

  • His unrestrained spiritual aura fills the Frog House and makes Su Mo and Xiao Wu feel mentally compressed and muddled 6.
  • Creates a spiritual barrier that blocks Xiao Wu’s voice and prevents her from ambushing Su Mo during his sacrifice 6 8.
  • Communicates mentally with Su Mo after their fusion and keeps watch during meditation and Soul Ring absorption 11 27.
  • Recognizes Su Mo’s vision damage as an ultimate-spiritual-level injury requiring an ability of matching ultimate strength to repair; warns that such recovery would not be permanent 24.

Wisdom Soul Ring and Skull Soul Bone

  • Reconstructs the Wisdom Soul Ring procedure by working backward from the future shown in Su Mo’s illusion 7.
  • Preserves his consciousness through sacrifice and produces a million-year skull Soul Bone with four skills 7 8.
  • Initially seals both the Soul Ring and Soul Bone at the hundred-year level so Su Mo can withstand them; their seals can lift as Su Mo improves 8.
  • Raises their released age limits after Su Mo strengthens his physique; the Soul Ring reaches twenty-four hundred years 23.
  • Cannot determine the Sharingan’s Soul Ring skills, but helps its single-tomoe form evolve into two tomoe 7 8.
  • Gradually releases the ring’s seal so Su Mo can convert its age into Three-Leaf Clovers rather than endure the full power directly 35.

Spiritual Detection and Sharing

  • Provides a bird’s-eye scouting view and shares detected information with others 8.
  • Enables Tian Meng to view Froggy’s otherwise Su Mo-exclusive travel journal through spiritual sharing 15.
  • Reaches a three-hundred-meter detection radius after the seals are further released 23.

Spiritual Simulation

  • Provides disguises through spiritual simulation 8.
  • Conceals the Blue Silver Emperor Right Leg Bone’s aura, allowing Su Mo to absorb it without alerting Tang Hao 8.
  • Allows Su Mo to conceal his actual power and appear to be a rank-ten Soul Scholar 9.

Spiritual Manifestation

  • Turns intangible spiritual power into tangible objects capable of affecting reality 8.
  • Like the other skull Soul Bone skills, retains room to grow as its sealed power is released 8.

Emotion Control

  • Influences emotions through mental interference; imitates, rather than possesses, the God of Emotion’s authority 8.
  • Can amplify fear alongside illusions, making Xiao Wu believe she has swallowed lethal poison 9.
  • Cannot permanently control emotions or rewrite thoughts, although the resulting beliefs and fears may persist afterward 9.
  • Su Mo later uses it to reduce Zhao Wuji’s fear and intensify his suspicion that Tang Hao is Su Mo in disguise 50.

Ultimate Ice

  • Originally intends to provide Su Mo with an ice-type Martial Soul, but the Infinity Gauntlet absorbs his ice attribute instead, forming the Ice Stone 7.
  • Can activate the stone with a sliver of his origin power even when Su Mo cannot use it himself 19 20.
  • Uses its ultimate chill to counter the dangerous heat produced by Su Mo’s final piece of whale rubber 19 20.

Cultivation Research

  • Teaches Su Mo a meditation method that strengthens spiritual power while absorbing Soul Power 11.
  • Combines the Mysterious Heaven Skill, meditation methods, Ultimate Wood, and Wood Element Control into Threefold Return to Origin, cultivating Soul Power, spiritual power, and physique together 35.
  • Version 1.0 operates at half the efficiency of Su Mo’s previous method. By version 3.0, its cultivation speed slightly surpasses the Mysterious Heaven Skill 35 40.
  • Continual optimization helps Su Mo progress despite the cultivation slowdown associated with his ultimate attribute after rank thirty 40.

Heart Separation Control

  • Uses separate consciousness threads to carry out simultaneous tasks 40.
  • At Seven-Aperture Exquisite Heart, maintains six working silkworm manifestations and one relaxing on a beach chair 40.
  • Demonstrates the technique to Su Mo, who copies it and uses it to meditate while conducting other activities 40.

Relationships

  • Su Mo — Host, partner, and research taskmaster. Promises Tian Meng godhood, revenge, and a place for the Ice Empress; Tian Meng supplies advice, protection, and cultivation research 7 19 34 40.
  • Froggy — Rescuer who removes him from the Ferocious Beasts’ lair. Tian Meng affectionately calls him his “froggy nephew” and enthusiastically follows his travel journal 5 6 15 36.
  • Ice Empress / Bingbing — The object of his longing. Securing her future place with Su Mo is a condition of his sacrifice, and he later insists that the Infinity Gauntlet’s ice-attribute Soul Ring slot be reserved for her 6 7 21.
  • Myriad Demon King and the Ferocious Beasts — Former captors who drained his Soul Power. Tian Meng wants Su Mo to turn them into Soul Rings and Soul Bones in revenge 5 7 10.
  • Xiao Wu — Initially begs him to rescue her from Su Mo. Instead, Tian Meng helps Su Mo intimidate her and later keeps watch over her 6 9 11.
  • Tang San — Becomes a target of schemes Tian Meng helps devise. Tian Meng dislikes his treatment of Yuhao in the projected future but initially stops short of outright disgust 9 12 18.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Rival to Tian Meng’s growing reputation as a martial-soul theorist. Tian Meng calls him a poser and enjoys witnessing his humiliations 16 17 18.
  • Zhu Zhuqing — Suggests releasing her where she will witness Dai Mubai’s infidelity, then feels sympathy after seeing her reaction 40 41.
