Goku could no longer hold himself back.
In a single stride, he rushed in front of Krillin, grabbed his shoulders with both hands, and shook him hard.
"Krillin, Krillin, Krillin! Beyond Super Saiyan! You mean it, right? You're not lying to me, are you?"
Krillin's head was thrown from side to side by the shaking, veins throbbing at his temples.
"Stop, stop, stop! When have I ever lied to you?"
(Namek doesn't count...)
Goku let go and bounced twice on the spot, practically bursting with excitement.
"Beyond Super Saiyan... Beyond Super Saiyan! What does it look like?"
"Does your hair turn gold? Or get longer? Will it drag on the ground like Super Saiyan 3?"
"Can you stop associating everything with hair...?"
Krillin helplessly rubbed his forehead.
But then he realized that hair really was the most obvious change.
So was Saiyans' obsession with hairstyles somehow written into their DNA or what?
Vegeta had already lost patience with the two of them talking nonsense.
A blazing light burned in the Saiyan Prince's eyes. The surging ki within him pressed the temple tiles beneath his feet into a web of cracks.
His gaze swept across everyone in the plaza—Goku, Gohan, Tien Shinhan, Yamcha. Every one of them was a potential rival.
Beyond Super Saiyan.
Those four words were seared into his mind, burning until his organs felt scalding hot.
"Hmph."
Vegeta snorted coldly. Without another word, his entire body turned into a streak of deep-blue light and shot straight toward the eastern horizon.
He was so fast that even Goku only caught a fleeting afterimage.
"Hey—Vegeta! You just took off without even picking a direction?!" Goku shouted at the vanishing blue streak.
"Mind your own business!"
A furious roar came back from an immense distance, its echo shredded by the wind.
