Power Progression

Background / History

Vegeta is King Vegeta’s son and the heir to Saiyan royalty. As a child, he believed his father’s promise that the stars would one day belong to him. Frieza’s destruction of Planet Vegeta erased that future, leaving Vegeta serving the tyrant while privately vowing to kill him 429 528.

His early worldview treated birth rank as destiny: royal blood entitled him to supremacy, while low-class warriors were beneath him. Goku’s repeated breakthroughs challenged that belief. Learning that Bardock—a low-class warrior—was the origin of the Super Saiyan legend later forced Vegeta to question the superiority he had attached to his lineage 81 510 512.

Ancient records connect the royal line to Vega, the first Saiyan king, whose ability to remain lucid as a Great Ape allowed him to unite the Saiyan tribes. The name “Vegeta” evolved from Vega’s name. Those records eventually give Krillin the basis for identifying Vegeta’s independent evolutionary path 556.

Personality

Vegeta is proud, confrontational, and intensely competitive. He initially regards a low-class warrior landing a blow on him as an insult to nobility. Humiliation often overrides his judgment: he threatens Earth during his rage at Kami’s Lookout, disrupts the coordinated assault on Cell, and charges Syn Shenron despite Gohan’s warning 81 113 242 438.

That pride also sustains his refusal to surrender. Against Eis Shenron, Vegeta acknowledges that his anger and direct fighting style have exposed him, but rejects the idea that pride itself is weakness. He instead defines it as standing up again regardless of how often others surpass or defeat him 429.

His family reveals a less guarded side. Tights remembers him as a lonely traveler rather than merely a threatening prince. He becomes visibly embarrassed when she recounts their courtship, while his son’s trust makes him reflect on family and the continuation of his bloodline 263.

His Ultra Ego awakening marks a shift from measuring himself solely against Goku to understanding his own motivations. He remains eager to challenge Goku afterward, but no longer experiences that rivalry as the suffocating pursuit it once was 561 565 566.

Fusion
