History
Fugaku served as Uchiha Clan Head and one of Konoha's principal frontline fighters during the war with Kirigakure. Hōzuki Mangetsu believed Fugaku could have killed him in their encounter but had held back 8. Fugaku later pursued Mizutsuki Yoru, revealing his Mangekyō Sharingan and Susanoo, but Yoru's ice techniques repeatedly froze his defense 21 22 25.
He had hoped Uchiha Shisui would become central to the clan's future. When Shisui resurfaced after months away, Fugaku tried to learn what had happened to him; Shisui instead challenged Fugaku's faith that the Uchiha could reform Konoha from within. Shisui's new power overwhelmed Fugaku and left him with no memory of their encounter 114 115.
During Konoha's war with Kumogakure, Fugaku publicly revealed his Mangekyō and led a counteroffensive as supreme frontline commander. His Susanoo raised his standing among Konoha's ninja, and the Uchiha celebrated their victory when Kumogakure withdrew 165 171 172. He then built civilian support for his Hokage bid. Hyūga Hiashi's votes tipped the election in his favor, making Fugaku the Fifth Hokage 180 187 188.
As Hokage, Fugaku signed the Three Nations Infrastructure Alliance and began adapting Kirigakure's education and ninjutsu-access policies for Konoha 193 194. After Obito injured his left eye and defeated him, Fugaku underwent a modified Hashirama-cell transplant in Kirigakure to recover his deteriorating Mangekyō 199 202 203. He later returned from an Allied Forces operation to find much of the Uchiha Clan massacred. He comforted Itachi, confronted Konoha's elders over the security failure, and ordered the promotion of Spiritual Power cultivation 249 255.
Danzō subsequently accused Fugaku of concealing the existence of a Kirigakure Uchiha clan. When Hiashi supported an investigation, Fugaku attempted to free him from suspected genjutsu, but Danzō trapped Fugaku in Tsukuyomi and had him restrained. The elders took temporary control of Konoha's affairs 275 276.
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan and genjutsu
- Fugaku's left Mangekyō creates a blurred, black-and-white illusionary world beneath a giant, blood-moon-like Sharingan. Using it causes bloody tears 114 164.
- Tsunade dispelled the illusion, causing Fugaku severe pain; Obito also broke free and left his left eye badly injured 164 199.
- His Mangekyō could not dispel the control placed on Hiashi or break Danzō's Tsukuyomi 276.
Susanoo
- Fugaku's Susanoo provides a defensive ribcage and skeletal arm, and can manifest a towering form with blades 199.
- He used its third stage during Konoha's victory over Kumogakure, but sustained use contributed to his near-blindness 172 202.
- After the Hashirama-cell transplant, he activated higher stages more readily; the Fourth Raikage nevertheless defeated him 207.
Fire Release
- He performed Great Fireball Technique, Fire Dragon Flame Bullet, and Great Fire Annihilation in rapid succession 21.
