Background / History

Obito’s Mangekyō Sharingan awakened in synchronization with the Sharingan he had given Kakashi. The two eyes evolved when Obito witnessed Rin being killed by Minato Namikaze, the teacher he had respected; this trauma also gave birth to Kamui. Obito came to regard Minato’s actions as an unforgivable betrayal. 23 99 155

Driven mad by grief, he attacked Minato with Space-Time Ninjutsu, Wood Release, and the Sharingan. Afterward, Madara Uchiha offered him the means to create the world of his dreams and designated him a “savior.” 63 65

Operating behind a spiral mask under Madara’s name, Obito controlled the Third Mizukage and cultivated the image of the “living Madara Uchiha.” Madara’s instruction gave him mastery of the Five Elemental Releases, Yin–Yang Release, Wood Release, and extensive ninja-world knowledge. 83 99
