Background / History

Yoru was born to Yuki Kuro of the Yuki Clan and a Kirigakure commoner. Because of his mixed heritage and lack of innate Ice Release, the Yuki Clan rejected him. When he was five, the clan refused aid for his injured mother; Elder Genji intervened too late to save her. Genji subsequently arranged Yoru’s enrollment in the Kirigakure Ninja Academy. 30

He completed the academy curriculum in one year and graduated through the Bloody Mist system after killing every other student in his class. Genji took him as a disciple and assigned him directly to the ANBU, where Kushimaru Kuriarare oversaw his assassination work. 30

On the night of his birth, an Asauchi fell from the sky beside him. The sword could not be separated from him: anyone carrying it more than one hundred meters away would see it teleport back to Yoru. The phenomenon drew the Third Mizukage and village elders’ attention. 3

At fourteen, Yoru led Kirigakure ANBU’s First Squad on a mission to destroy Konoha’s frontline supplies, create chaos, and support the Seven Ninja Swordsmen’s planned assassination of Jiraiya. 1 2 He defeated Uchiha Shisui, seized a Sharingan, fought Jiraiya and Sarutobi Shinnosuke, and escaped pursuit through Utsusemi. 5 6 13

Following Kushimaru’s death, Yoru accepted his final order to recover Kirigakure’s Ninja Swords. He returned four swords to the village, earned Yagura’s confidence, and awakened Ice Release during the conflict with Konoha. 14 26

After the war, Yoru rejected Genji’s offer to support his Mizukage candidacy, viewing Kirigakure’s entrenched interests as incompatible with reform. He later accepted leadership of the Yuki Clan, preserving its existing administration under Yuki Akira while prioritizing a population-revival policy. 79 81 82

Yoru eventually fought Genji, Yagura, and the Third Mizukage for control of Kirigakure. As the new Fourth Mizukage, he used Bankai to protect the village from the Six-Tails and gained the villagers’ trust. 87 88

Yoru was initially a young, handsome boy with a hint of youthful immaturity. As an ANBU operative, he concealed himself behind a white mask; later, he wore a smaller pure-white mask over his right eye. 1 34
