Background / History

Obito was an insecure but ambitious student who resented Kakashi for being allowed to lead a team. He dreamed of missions with Lin Nohara and wanted to prove himself as a capable Uchiha ninja. His early attempts to demonstrate that strength often ended in embarrassment: his Great Fireball Technique failed, and Guy quickly knocked him down after his challenge toward Haotian escalated. 9 15

He cared deeply for the woman he believed to be his grandmother, obediently accepting her advice and privately resolving to become a ninja who would make her proud. Unbeknownst to him, the “grandmother” was part of Madara and Zetsu’s deception; Madara considered Obito a useful candidate whose hatred could be cultivated. 15 17

During the war, Obito served alongside Haotian, Kakashi, Lin, and others. He remained competitive with Kakashi and jealous whenever Lin focused on Haotian, but he also showed courage in combat. When Gari overwhelmed him, Haotian ordered him to flee; Obito reluctantly obeyed and was distressed that Hiruko stayed behind to cover their escape. 39 40 48

Obito’s left-eye Sharingan awakened while he and Haotian faced Hiruko’s Chimera Technique. Later, he was reported dead at Kannabi Bridge, only to be revived by Madara in a painful new body. He initially hoped Haotian had come to take him home and begged to accompany him to save Lin, but Haotian refused due to Obito’s condition. 52 89 90

After witnessing Kakashi’s cold treatment of Lin, Obito—masked and in disguise—became emotionally destabilized. At Rin’s grave, he confronted Haotian over whether his own death, Lin, and Kakashi had all been sacrificed meaninglessly. 92

Obito subsequently acted under the identity of “Uchiha Madara,” approaching Nagato in the Land of Rain and presenting Nagato’s role as one of changing the world. As an Akatsuki planner, Obito disrupted Yagura’s Three-Tails transplant, proposed the operation to seize the Nine-Tails from Kushina, and personally fought Minato during the resulting attack on Konoha. Personality

In his youth, Obito is hot-blooded, easily provoked, and highly sensitive to being underestimated. He frequently clashes with Kakashi, reacts angrily to insults, and seeks recognition through becoming stronger or advancing in rank. 9 40 45

He is also affectionate and emotionally driven. His wish to make his grandmother proud, his attachment to Lin, and his grief over Hiruko’s apparent sacrifice show that he forms intense personal bonds.
