"Where—where did they go?" Skye couldn't help looking around.
"Oh, I beat them up and sent them packing," Saitama said in his usual casual tone.
Of course, those small-time thugs didn't amount to anything to Saitama. In fact, if they hadn't kept talking about his bald head like they had a death wish, they wouldn't even have left an impression on him. It was a little like casually stepping on an ant while walking down the street.
"Beat them up and sent them packing?" Skye was at a loss for words. If he'd only chased them off, they'd left awfully fast. Besides, she hadn't even seen Saitama make a move. So many thugs had disappeared in the blink of an eye. It looked like some kind of paranormal incident.
"You... Never mind, let's hurry up and get out of here. Something about this place feels wrong." Skye looked around cautiously, then grabbed Saitama by the arm and led him outside.
"Wrong? I don't feel anything at all," Saitama muttered, following behind Skye.
After their first attempt had failed, Skye did some research before they went to find someone to help them get their documents a second time. She looked into the person with the better reputation, so when she and Saitama went to see him, they didn't run into the same kind of trouble as before.
"Come on, stand here." The old man pointed to a spot for Saitama to stand, camera in hand.
Saitama stood there, and click went the camera. His photo was taken.
"Good. Now give me the deposit, then come back here in a week to pick up your Green Cards." The old man was straightforward. There was none of the usual messing around; he went straight to payment, had Saitama fill out the paperwork, and then took his photo. The whole process took only about ten minutes. Anyone would appreciate that kind of efficiency.
"This is the deposit. But I'm warning you, don't try to cheat us, or you'll be the one who suffers in the end." Skye threatened him.
"Oh? You think you can take me on?" The old man couldn't help laughing. It had been a long time since anyone had threatened him like that. He'd been no ordinary person in his youth, and even now, the connections between the underworld and the legitimate world were growing tighter, with influence that surpassed what they'd had back in his day. So to him, Skye's threat was nothing more than a joke.
"Of course we can. We're very tough," Skye said defiantly.
"Hahaha, all right, you're very tough. You made me laugh, so I'll let it slide. Just come back here in a week to pick up your Green Cards." The old man waved them off with a chuckle, his attitude a far cry from the cold manner he'd shown before.
Seeing him like that, Skye didn't know what else to say. She could only keep quiet and leave with Saitama.
"By the way, why do we have to get Green Cards? They cost so much," Saitama said once they were outside.
Saitama himself didn't care about getting a Green Card at all. What difference did it make whether he had one or not? It didn't seem to matter to him. It wasn't as if he needed a Green Card to buy discounted groceries at the supermarket. Compared to a Green Card, he felt that money was more important.
"Shut up. Do you want the immigration authorities to deport you? Getting Green Cards costs a lot, but we still have plenty of money, enough to last us for a while. We can figure out how to make more during that time." Skye rolled her eyes, thinking Saitama was incredibly shortsighted.
"I know, I know. I just don't feel like a Green Card matters much to me."
"Shut up. Just do as I say."
"Got it. I was just saying. Besides, you're the one who paid for it." The reason Saitama said that was because he'd thrown away the business card earlier, and Skye had picked it up, cleaned it, found someone to sell it to, and handled everything else. In a way, she'd earned all that money herself. She'd sold the card for so much that Saitama felt he had no right to complain even if Skye kept all of it for herself.
Seeing Saitama like that, Skye couldn't help rolling her eyes.
After they got back, Skye gave up their old place and rented a two-bedroom apartment, so she and Saitama each had a room. Then she bought a vehicle—a camper van she'd wanted for a long time. Even though she still had plenty of money, she didn't buy a new one; instead, she bought the secondhand camper van she'd already had her eye on.
After that, Skye bought a bunch of brand-new computer parts and assembled them in no time. Then she tossed her old computer aside like trash.
"Um..." Saitama sat cross-legged nearby and spoke to Skye, who was excitedly using her newly assembled computer.
"What is it? Get to the point. That's more like a man. What do you want to buy now?"
"Uh, I wanted to ask... You don't want this anymore? Can I have it?" Saitama pointed at the computer Skye had thrown away.
"Sure, but if you want one, we can just buy a new one. We can afford it."
"No need. I just want to play some games. Well, if we can, I'd like to buy a game console." Saitama's eyes lit up as he looked at Skye expectantly.
Seeing Saitama like that, Skye pursed her lips. "How old are you, and you still play games? But sure, games don't cost that much anyway."
This was the second time Skye had seen Saitama act like this. The first had been when he wanted to eat meat, and the second was now. So she could tell at a glance that he genuinely liked playing games. It was probably one of his hobbies. Everyone had a couple of interests, so there was nothing strange about Saitama having one too.
As for video games, it was perfectly normal for adults to play them.
"That's great! Oh, wait, there's someone outside." Before Skye could react, Saitama suddenly disappeared. Skye was left dumbfounded, wondering if she was dreaming. She even reached out and felt the spot where Saitama had been standing. Air—there was nothing there. Skye's eyes widened more and more. Then a sound rose from her abdomen, pushed up to her chest, surged through her throat, and finally burst out as a scream.
