Background / History

Saitama originated in Z-City, a world where monsters were rampant and countries had ceased to exist as meaningful divisions. He became a hero simply because he was interested in doing so, then trained for three years to become strong. After his hair fell out, he found that opponents—human or monstrous—could no longer withstand a single punch. 3 10 31

While sprinting to an A-City steak sale, Saitama moved fast enough to distort space and time, accidentally crossing into another dimension. There he encountered Tony Stark, then became stranded in New York after being unable to locate A-City. 1

Unable to use his money in the new world, he was briefly dependent on Skye. After rescuing her from thugs, he stayed with her and resolved to continue hero work by targeting criminals in place of monsters. 2 4 6

His rapid interventions across New York, particularly Hell's Kitchen, earned him the name Invisible Man, as victims and criminals could not see him move. 15 16

Appearance

Saitama is a bald man usually seen in a distinctive hero costume. His ordinary, vacant expression often causes others to underestimate him.

  • Yellow skin-tight suit.
  • White cape.
  • Red gloves.
  • Shiny bald head.
  • Usually has a plain, “peeled egg” appearance; his features become sharper and more intense when excited for battle or enraged. 6 130 153 253
  • His hero outfit is described as ordinary and lacking defensive properties. 139

Personality

Saitama is straightforward, unpretentious, and strongly self-directed. He became a hero because he wanted to be one, not for money, fame, public approval, or obligation. He consistently refuses to let outside expectations define his actions. 2 15 76 217

Despite his power, he values mundane comforts: discounted groceries, meat, games, cooking, and inexpensive living. He can be frugal to the point of worrying about compensation for damaged property, yet he is not motivated by wealth once his needs are met. 19 70 148 218

His greatest dissatisfaction is the lack of a worthy opponent. Easy victories leave him bored and emotionally flat; the prospect of a powerful adversary visibly changes his demeanor and motivates him to train again. 23 106 236 254

He is blunt, impatient with lengthy explanations, and particularly dislikes comments about his baldness. 64 131 140

Abilities & Skills

Overwhelming Physical Strength

Saitama defeats nearly every opponent with one punch, from street criminals to superhuman, extraterrestrial, and cosmic threats.

  • Defeated Bullseye and Kingpin's armed ambush force one opponent at a time with single punches. 24
  • Destroyed an underground drug factory with one punch, collapsing the surface plant into the resulting void. 64
  • Destroyed the Destroyer with a Normal Punch. 106
  • Easily defeated Thor in a sparring match. 131
  • Defeated Dragon-level monsters including Homeless Emperor, Golden Sperm, Monster King Orochi, and Gouket. 162 166 167
  • Destroyed the Tesseract with one punch, closing an alien-invasion portal. 148
  • Crippled Ultron's Vibranium body with a single punch. 211
  • Destroyed Thanos's massive spaceship with a punch. 260
  • At his renewed peak, controlled punches can crack space. 278

Extreme Speed

Saitama travels and acts faster than ordinary eyes, cameras, and opponents can perceive.

  • His sprinting accidentally crossed dimensions after distorting space and time. 1
  • Can circle the Earth by running and cross immense distances in extremely short periods. 6 30 31
  • Swam from America to Argentina and back in a short time. 31
  • His Middle East search created sandstorms in his wake. 36
  • His speed is the basis of the Invisible Man identity; he often defeats criminals without being seen. 15 16

Durability

Saitama withstands attacks that would devastate ordinary fighters with little apparent harm.

  • Captain Marvel's reflexive energy blast embedded him in a special-alloy wall; he simply pulled himself free. 236
  • Dormammu's dark-energy weapons initially only tickled him. 253
  • Trains under gravity enhanced to 200× normal levels. 275 276

Restraint and Non-Lethal Combat

Saitama generally avoids killing human opponents, even when he could do so effortlessly.

  • Injures or incapacitates criminals rather than killing them. 11
  • Defeated apartment attackers without fatalities, reassuring Daredevil of his intentions. 15
  • Spared the monster Meow after seeing through its disguise, warning it not to harm humans. 164

Mjolnir Wielding

Saitama can lift and use Mjolnir.

  • Casually swung the hammer and used it as a dumbbell before it formally recognized him. 127
  • Received it from Thor after their bet, but dismissed it as too light and no longer useful for its “massage” effect. 131 132

Training Method

Saitama's original regimen is simple in description but demands daily perseverance.

  • 100 push-ups.
  • 100 sit-ups, later replaced after he learned they could severely damage the body. 276
  • 100 squats.
  • 10 km run.
  • No air conditioning in summer or winter.
  • Maintained every day for three years. 10 42

  • Mjolnir — briefly obtained through a bet with Thor; Saitama considers it disappointing. 131

  • Alien survival/flight device — Nebula provides a mooncake-sized device that offers limited oxygen, short-distance flight, and some protection. 209

  • Thor — A hoped-for strong opponent who disappoints Saitama in their sparring match; Thor offers him Mjolnir after losing their bet. 130 131
