Background and History

Odin stripped Thor of his divine power and cast him into a mortal existence on Earth. HYDRA captured and brutally tortured him, leaving him bound to an iron chair with bullet wounds in both legs and severe facial injuries. Loki visited him in captivity and told him that Odin was dead, exploiting Thor’s vulnerable state. 88

Sif, Volstagg, and other Asgardian allies later rescued Thor from HYDRA. Furious over his treatment by Earthlings, Thor initially declared that he would attack Earth and sought to reclaim Mjolnir from Saitama. Unable to lift the hammer, he confronted Saitama aggressively and was effortlessly sent flying. 96 101 104

His failure to reclaim Mjolnir gradually changed him. Thor accepted that he might remain mortal, travelled Earth with Jane Foster, Daisy, and Dr. Erik Selvig, and used his knowledge of other worlds to assist their celestial observations. The experience taught him to think more carefully and live as an Earthling rather than as an entitled Asgardian prince. 116 128

Loki later arranged an assassination attempt against Thor. After Thor was shot and seemingly killed, Mjolnir returned to him; he revived and regained his divine power. He immediately honored his earlier agreement to fight Saitama, but Saitama knocked him hundreds of meters away with one punch. Thor survived the blow and continued charging forward. 128 130

During Loki’s Tesseract crisis, Thor worked alongside Earth’s heroes, identified Loki’s involvement with the mind-controlling staff, and confronted his brother over the Tesseract. When Jane was endangered by an object lodged in her body, Thor sought Saitama’s help and brought him to Asgard. There, Thor learned that Hela was his full-blooded sister and witnessed her destroy Mjolnir.
