Background / History
Ye Yun is a well-educated youth from the 21st century who transmigrates into the body of the seventeen-year-old Ye Yun of the Great Zhou Dynasty. He merges with the original owner’s memories and inherits his unresolved purpose: uncovering the truth behind the annihilation of the Ye Family. 1 2
The Ye Family was formerly an official household. Ye Yun’s grandfather served under a veteran general and had once reached the third rank in the military before being severely injured in the Battle of Yun Mountain. After retiring, he and his entourage were ambushed; that same night, the Ye Family was massacred. Ye Yun’s father, Ye Chen, escaped the initial attack and took six-year-old Ye Yun away at dawn, but his later fate is unknown. 1
For ten years, Uncle Fu kept Ye Yun hidden in the family’s old city residence. The original Ye Yun trained diligently but had mediocre talent and never sensed Qi, leaving him unable to pursue the massacre’s perpetrators beyond reviewing empty case files as a constable. 1 2
Following transmigration, Ye Yun awakens exceptional Qi-sensing talent and rapidly enters the martial ranks. He resolves to grow strong enough to avenge the Ye Family, locate Ye Chen, and expose the conspiracy connected to the massacre. 2 3 26
Appearance
After awakening, Ye Yun’s previously sickly bearing is replaced by a restrained sharpness. He generally presents himself as an ordinary, low-key constable to avoid drawing attention. 3 10 49
- Usually wears plain dark-gray clothing without unnecessary adornment. 10
- Keeps his aura contained through Turtle Breath Stillness, causing others to mistake him for an ordinary person. 27
- His eyes can flash with light or gold during cultivation and breakthroughs. 2 39
- Uses a long saber and carries Flying Knives at his waist. 21 42
Personality
Ye Yun is driven by revenge but is not reckless. He consistently treats strength as a necessity for uncovering the Ye Family massacre, and he prioritizes secrecy because public knowledge of his identity or abnormal growth could endanger him. 1 5 7 22
He is observant and calculating in dangerous situations. He detects hidden motives in Zhao Si’s mountain expedition, stages the deaths of Sun Gan and Liu San to protect himself, conceals the bronze box sought by Sun Yu, and repeatedly disguises his true cultivation. 6 9 28 30 42
Despite his reserve, he protects those he considers allies. He shares spoils with Yan Xiao Liu, treats wounded constables, saves Chen Qingzhou, and risks himself against the Wang Mansion’s ghostly threat. He also shows empathy toward Wang Yun’s spirit and promises to settle her vengeance. 22 31 36 43

True Martial Secret Manual
A divided manual connected to Ye Yun’s childhood engagement with the Lin family. Its upper half emphasizes foundational cultivation and martial skills; the lower half, held by the Lin family’s daughter, contains deeper methods and sorcery. The complete text is said to contain the path to the True Martial realm beyond Rank One. 26
