Background

Takagi Akane grew up around the Chihaya family because the Takagi family was an important supplier to the Chihaya Conglomerate. As children, she was treated like a younger sister by Airi Chihaya and Kitahara Ayano. She later met Kiyoharu Chihaya while still in elementary school and began wanting to compete with Airi for him. 45 152

Her pursuit of Kiyoharu became extreme. Before her three-year absence, she formed cliques, clashed with other students, and repeatedly crossed boundaries in pursuing him. Airi ultimately had Akane removed from Tokyo, while the Takagi family's business was also experiencing difficulties. The separation and business crisis contributed to Akane developing severe psychological problems. 44 54 95

While abroad in South America, Akane met the Witch Matron and her circle. Their unconventional treatment stabilized her condition, while exposure to their practices led Akane to acquire Soul Speech. She used the ability both to aid difficult Takagi Conglomerate negotiations and to build the online identity of Mira, through which she gradually targeted Kiyoharu's account, “Yūran-nii.” 45 54 121

On returning to Tokyo, Akane adopted the image of a repentant, diligent student. She excelled in mathematics, wore a regulated uniform, apologized to Airi, and passed multiple lie-detector questions about her past feelings. Privately, however, she continued pursuing Kiyoharu through Mira and Soul Speech while attempting to separate the identities of “Mira” and “Takagi Akane” through cognitive interference. 45 65 67 123

Her manipulation did not proceed as intended. The Witch Matron identifies Kiyoharu's influence on Akane as a rare case of “reverse erosion”: rather than simply corrupting him, Akane had begun unconsciously reshaping herself around the version of her that she believed he would approve of. 95

Later, unable to obtain Kiyoharu's affection as Takagi Akane, she chooses to embrace Mira more completely. By Chapter 394, Bai Jinyu has taken possession of Akane's body; Bai states that Akane's original soul has entered the internet and that the body's remaining personality is only an incomplete default setting. 332 394 396
