After seeing the gangsters leave the Cybernetic Clinic with half a plate of dumplings, Doctor Lin came out of the Underground Workshop.
He looked at Lin Qi. "Already installed? How's the H-L-023 performing?"

"The products I design are naturally up to par." Lin Qi had complete confidence in his own designs.
Data flickered across Doctor Lin's cybernetic eyes. He glanced at Lin Xin, then looked at Lin Qi.
"Xia Xin told me you wanted to see me. Did you run into trouble with the implantation? Need me to help you out?"
Lin Qi only pretended to be a cyberpsycho, but Doctor Lin was the real deal—though he didn't limit himself to his own body.
Doctor Lin took great pleasure in removing flesh from others and replacing it with cybernetics.
As for Doctor Lin himself, less than thirty percent of his body had been cyberized. He'd also had a Suppressor installed in advance and kept a close watch on his own mental instability.
Still, Doctor Lin was so erratic that plenty of people thought he had a mild case of Cyberpsychosis.
Lin Qi shook his head. "I need a batch of scrap micro-core-powered cybernetics."
Running a Cybernetic Clinic naturally meant having a large stock of secondhand and scrap cybernetics.
Some low-level gangsters couldn't afford new cybernetics, so they chose half-broken ones instead.
"What do you want junk for?" Doctor Lin asked, eyeing Lin Qi in confusion.
"You don't need to worry about that."
Lin Qi planned to use them to power products he was making for the Doomsday World. They couldn't manufacture this stuff there, so Lin Qi would have to haul it over himself.
Doctor Lin looked Lin Qi up and down, then furrowed his brow. "There's plenty of stock in the clinic's warehouse. You can pick out what you need yourself."
After a moment, Doctor Lin continued, "I recommend taking scrapped units, or filing the secondhand cybernetics you take as scrapped. That'll make it easier for me to enter them into Red Fruit City's cybernetics registry."
"Also, given how much of your body is cyberized now, I think you need a Suppressor. Even if you don't want to use it, you should have one installed."
Doctor Lin looked completely serious. His advice seemed to come purely from the perspective of a cybernetics doctor.
But Lin Qi sensed something else behind his words.
It felt like Dad had figured something out.
Lin Qi hadn't expected Doctor Lin to add, "That's a cybernetics doctor's advice—and the instinct of a top-tier cybernetics doctor."
Doctor Lin put extra emphasis on "top-tier."
"Got it." Lin Qi nodded.
Installing a Suppressor had been part of the plan all along.
Lin Qi had originally intended to get one after his apparent cyberization level exceeded fifty percent. After all, he didn't really need one.
But his father's advice deserved respect. The flesh Doctor Lin had taken from living people could make enough dumplings to feed someone for the rest of their life.
The word "top-tier" in Doctor Lin's claim was questionable, but his old man wouldn't steer him wrong.
"You two cyberpsychos."
Lin Xin swore at them from the side, completely ruining the mood.
Father and son turned to look at Lin Xin in unison.
"I think Lin Xin should be confined to the Cybernetic Clinic and made to work for six months," Lin Qi suggested.
"Six months?" Doctor Lin asked, puzzled.
Given how the father and son usually talked, house arrest meant Lin Xin had done something serious, while the length of the sentence indicated how bad her offense was.
Had Lin Xin killed someone or set something on fire?
"I think we need to have a serious talk." Doctor Lin looked at Lin Xin.
Lin Xin's expression stiffened. The words sounded familiar.
"I refuse!" Lin Xin spun around and tried to leave the Cybernetic Clinic. She couldn't stand being in this family for another second.
Lin Xin seemed to have forgotten that Doctor Lin had cybernetic implants: thirty percent L-level cybernetics on paper, but modified by Doctor Lin himself to reach A-level strength.
Doctor Lin caught up in two strides and clamped a hand around the back of Lin Xin's neck.
Raising an eyebrow slightly, he noticed Lin Xin's necklace. A cybernetics doctor's instincts told him it was no ordinary necklace.
"I hope my lovely daughter can give her humble old dad a detailed account of what she's been through."
Gripping the back of Lin Xin's neck, Doctor Lin dragged her off toward the basement.
"This is unlawful detention! I'm going to repor—"
Before she could finish, the door to the Underground Workshop had already closed.
There was no network down there, and Red Fruit City's crime-monitoring network couldn't reach it.
Lin Qi trusted his father's abilities. Keeping Lin Xin in line wouldn't be difficult; her so-called rebellious streak only existed because her father hadn't used his methods on her.
At the Cybernetic Clinic's entrance, Lin Qi set its status to "Closed," locked the door, and headed for the clinic's warehouse.
The Number One Cybernetic Clinic's warehouse was enormous. Cybernetics of all kinds seemed haphazardly piled about, but were actually sorted on shelves.
Lin Qi headed toward the scrap section.
He didn't need complete cybernetics. All he needed was power from the micro-core reactors.
Cybernetics that incorporated micro-core reactors were at least L-level. A fully charged reactor could power the M-level mech Lin Qi planned to build for more than seventy-two hours of combat.
Most scrapped cybernetics had failed in some other function, but their micro-core reactors still worked. Otherwise, Doctor Lin would have sent them to the dump instead of storing them in the warehouse.
He took three cybernetic units with reactors, each with about half its power remaining.
"Greenland City doesn't regulate cybernetics as strictly as Red Fruit City. Besides, I can buy them through Arthur. For now, I just need a temporary solution."
Lin Qi wouldn't be using an M-level mech for long. Once the Doomsday World upgraded its mechs, micro-core reactors wouldn't be enough.
By then, though, Lin Qi might have the resources to build reactors directly in the Doomsday World.
Even if he didn't have enough resources, he could keep getting them through Arthur in Greenland City.
Arthur already had enough trouble on his hands. What difference would a little more make?
After carrying the cybernetics back to the workshop, Lin Qi easily removed the reactors. Then he took some unnecessary components off his Exoskeleton and installed the reactors in their place.
When he was done, Lin Qi brought up the design blueprints he'd taken from the company and began revising them.
The design had to account for the strength of materials in the Doomsday World, as well as the maximum output of each component.
As an L-level Researcher, designing something as simple as an M-level mech posed little difficulty for Lin Qi.
Before long, he had drawn up a new design on paper and written out the production process.
The plans were so detailed that even without Lin Qi, the Doomsday World's existing industrial base could manufacture the mech.
He folded the plans and tucked them into a gap in his Exoskeleton. All that remained was to wait for the cooldown on the Gate.
As he waited, Lin Qi continued thinking about the mech's weapons.
A giant Chainsaw Sword was essential. It would be the last resort once all the firepower had been expended.
Next came the most important part: the weapon loadout.
In theory, mechs were equipped with conventional firearms and energy weapons.
But both required chemical fuel and vast amounts of energy.
Those conditions weren't met, so Lin Qi's only option was electromagnetic weapons.
A multi-barrel electromagnetic gun-cannon was the best solution.
"Heat-dissipating materials are a major problem. Materials in the Doomsday World are seriously lacking in heat-dissipation performance."
"But it's not impossible to solve. Xia Chu's supernatural ability might come in handy."
