Background / History
Biohazard Apocalypse Survival
The outbreak is initially linked to TB100, a black-market enhancement potion that promises to double bodily functions but transforms many users into zombies. Dawn City becomes the first city to fall. Later, Wang Yu learns that the organization Tianzhou and cooperating elites deliberately engineered the apocalypse to pursue human evolution and harvest its benefits 303 419.
The zombies continue evolving after the outbreak. Early encounters involve largely instinctive attackers, while later enemies demonstrate speech, specialized abilities, coordinated command, and an understanding of players’ ability to return after death 294 315 350 363.
Plants vs. Zombies
Zombies attack players’ Big Trees through waves delivered by Fog Winds and through tombstones that produce additional enemies. Wang Yu eventually discovers tombstones operating beneath black mist even during daylight 538 588 800.
These zombies are not exclusively mindless game enemies. A speaking Giant Zombie identifies itself as a member of a zombie clan, and Wang Yu encounters zombies working in a mining area 744.
Types and Power Levels
Biohazard Zombies

| Golden defensive zombie | An intelligent, golden-yellow zombie that eats other zombies; possesses Golden Bell Cover, golden light attacks, and a tongue strike 306 307. |
| Winged talking zombie | Can fly and speak. Wang Yu estimates its strength as at least approaching Transcendent Level C; Wang Wu defeats it within twenty seconds 315. |
| Bone zombie | Over two meters tall, with bone-saber hands, exceptional speed, and thrown bone spears. Regrows its severed sabers before its final confrontation 360 361 364. |
| Octopus zombie | Black-and-red, with numerous long limbs; throws ordinary zombies into enemy positions 360 361. |
| Three-headed hellhound | A flaming, three-headed creature that attacks with fireballs 360 361. |

Abilities & Skills
Physical Strength and Persistence
- Ordinary biohazard zombies overpower normal humans through enhanced physical capabilities 296.
- Some remain mobile after being cut in half, crawling despite catastrophic injuries 296.
- Numerical superiority allows ordinary hordes to exhaust far stronger opponents; an early Silver Player dies after being surrounded 294 358.
Intelligence and Horde Command
- Low-level biohazard zombies largely act on instinct and rush toward loud noises, allowing Wang Yu to gather them for mass attacks 296 350.
- Intelligent zombies retreat from superior opponents, coordinate assaults, and recognize threats to their leaders 337 361 364.
- The bone zombie devises a plan to turn returning players into zombies rather than repeatedly kill them 363.
- In Plants vs. Zombies, hordes build a passage across a lake from their own bodies. Destroying attackers supplies more corpses, while gaps blasted into the road are rapidly refilled 791 792.
Infection and Transformation
- Infection is a major danger even when a fighter greatly outclasses ordinary zombies. Wang Yu investigates protective barriers and gold-transformed claws to reduce exposure 310.
- Transformation does not always erase the original consciousness: Ye Feifan retains self-awareness after receiving a special TB100 injection 450.
- The Plants vs. Zombies Zombie King can transform summoned Nether Cat avatars through contact 815.
Black Mist
- In Plants vs. Zombies, black mist strengthens zombies and obstructs the visibility needed by several ranged plants 763 801.
- Tombstones within the mist produce new zombies; destroying these tombstones reduces incoming enemies 800 806.
- Ordinary mist can be dispersed with Clover, but the Zombie King’s mist resists that countermeasure 800 819.
Countermeasures
| Method | Application and limits |
|---|---|
| Noise lures | Draw instinctive biohazard zombies into concentrated groups for efficient extermination 296 304. |
| Eliminating commanders | Disrupts coordinated zombie tides, leaving ordinary attackers to act independently 350 365. |
| Defensive plants | Wall-nuts hold enemies in place while Pea Shooters and Corn Catchers attack; Pumpkin Heads protect plants from sustained horde damage 543 763. |
| Slowing and freezing | Give offensive plants more time to attack; Ice Mushrooms can freeze Giant Zombies 670 719. |
| Tombstone Devourers | Remove zombie-producing tombstones and progressively reduce enemy numbers 800 806. |
| Seven-Leaf Clover | Suppresses Elite Giant Zombies near the God Tree Clan’s island 796. |
| Vaccines and restraining medicine | Allow organized teams to clear biohazard zombies with greatly reduced difficulty 480. |
