Background and History

Family and Papacy

Qian Xunji was already the Pope of Martial Soul Hall when Bibi Dong gave birth to their twins, Qian Renhan and Qian Renxue. When Bibi Dong tried to attack the newborns in her hatred, Qian Xunji shielded them and rendered her unconscious to protect them. 1

He attempted to preserve both his family and Martial Soul Hall’s reputation by presenting Bibi Dong as a mother who had left to become stronger for the children. He arranged for Qian Renxue and Qian Renhan to wait with him for Bibi Dong’s return from the City of Slaughter, but the reunion collapsed when Bibi Dong attacked Qian Renxue on sight. 9

Qian Xunji healed Qian Renhan after the boy defended Qian Renxue and was injured by Bibi Dong’s strike. 10 He later considered placing Bibi Dong in charge of Martial Soul Hall’s affairs and eventually passing the papacy to Qian Renxue; he did not consider Qian Renhan for the role because of the latter’s Fallen Angel Martial Soul. 14

Conflict with Tang Hao

Qian Xunji led Martial Soul Hall personnel to capture the Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor, Ah Yin. During the confrontation with Tang Hao, he refused to join his two Guardian Douluo in attacking Tang Hao together, adhering to the Qian Clan’s chivalric principle of one-on-one combat. 34 36

At the peak of Level 95, Qian Xunji activated his ninth soul skill, combining the Six-Winged Angel’s light and flame attributes through a rare dual-attribute soul ring. Tang Hao nevertheless killed Elder Yuxiao, crippled Diamond Douluo, and severely wounded Qian Xunji. 37

His recovery was prolonged: after two months, he had only recovered to Soul Douluo level, and after three months he could use strength around Rank 91. 40 43

Bibi Dong’s Attempted Assassination

While Qian Xunji recovered, Bibi Dong secretly poisoned his medicine with the venom of her Death Spider Emperor Martial Soul. 43 She later attacked him directly in his cultivation chamber, but his Rank 91 Six-Winged Angel possession heavily suppressed her Death Spider Emperor and forced her back. 44

Enforcement Elder and Imprisonment

When Qian Renhan was believed to have died in the Hell Road, Qian Xunji resolved to become Martial Soul Hall’s Enforcement Elder and deal with the City of Slaughter. He promised to protect Martial Soul Hall and the God Ancestor’s legacy until Qian Renxue had matured. 58 59

Before departing, he appointed Bibi Dong acting Pope, believing that Qian Daoliu and the Six Great Enshrined Elders could restrain her. 59

After Qian Renhan returned, Qian Xunji was defeated when his Holy Sword was shattered by Qian Renhan’s sword qi. 66 Qian Renhan subsequently imprisoned him and sentenced him to work at a sewing machine. 68 The imprisonment left Qian Xunji apathetic and ashamed, with his inner resolve described as shattered. 139 140

Qian Renxue secured his release after passing the Seventh Angel Trial. Qian Xunji initially refused to leave, feeling he no longer had the face to meet anyone, but he was later free by the time Qian Renhan prepared to leave for the God Realm. 139 140 186

As Pope, he favors stability over escalation. He opposed direct intervention in the Baroque Kingdom out of fear that worsening relations could trigger a continental war, and he followed the Qian Clan’s chivalric ideals even during the battle against Tang Hao. 16 36

He is also highly conscious of reputation and legitimacy. He worried that public knowledge of his relationship with his former disciple Bibi Dong would destroy the standing of both Martial Soul Hall and the Qian Clan. 9 His later resolve to confront the City of Slaughter is partly driven by his wish to avenge Qian Renhan and redeem his own reputation. 59
