Background / History

White Crows become available after the Graveyard Demon’s expansion creates special empty graves in the Withered Wood Forest. Their bone-beast conversion can produce either two Bone Dogs or three White Crows from a normal corpse. Gu Su selects White Crows because his most pressing problem is a lack of information about the surrounding territory, establishing a squad with a capacity of thirty 31 33.

The first scouts appear overnight. Patrol skeletons place surplus monster corpses in grave pit number four, producing the crows that Gu Su finds perched on the graveyard’s tree. By morning, the scouting force consists of twenty-one White Crows 34 35.

Appearance

  • Size: Approximately fist-sized 34.
  • Body: Entirely skeletal, with bare heads and bony wings 34 35.
  • Eyes: Black sockets containing a faint red glow 34.
  • In flight: Become small white dots as they recede into the distance 35.

Behavior

White Crows respond readily to Gu Su’s commands, gathering around him to await instructions and dividing into scouting teams when ordered. They communicate discoveries through hoarse caws. Gu Su explicitly instructs them to report findings immediately rather than act independently 35 37.

Abilities & Skills

Flight and Reconnaissance

Their small size and flying ability make White Crows difficult for enemies to detect and suitable for surveying threats, landmarks, and resources 31.

  • Report enemy locations, numbers, and the presence or absence of a leader 37 40 41.
  • Enter ruined buildings through narrow openings and search beyond obstructing vines 49 50.
  • Remain vulnerable when detected: a half-orc destroys one with a single club strike 42.

Guidance and Messaging

White Crows lead other undead through unfamiliar terrain and carry orders between separated groups.

  • Guide Gu Su’s expedition around obstacles on the route to the marsh wolves 38.
  • Lead newly summoned skeletons to their assigned work site 39.
  • Fetch Coyote and his squad when Gu Su needs transport support 45.
  • Guide skeleton warriors through collapsed interiors to a previously discovered room 50.

Luring and Diversion

Although their Attack is zero, White Crows can use physical contact and conspicuous movement to provoke pursuit 31 38.

  • Swoop into a wolf’s head, dodge its counterattack, and slow their flight to draw it into an ambush 38.
  • Approach as a flock to attract half-orcs toward a trapped forest 42.
  • Receive orders to lure living birds near the vine-covered building for a test of its strange music 50.

Undead Nature

White Crows can investigate hazards that distinguish between living creatures and the dead.

  • A scouting crow enters the glowing-vine building and returns unharmed 49.
  • Gu Su subsequently identifies the building’s musical lure as targeting living beings rather than undead 50.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Arc White Crows’ contribution
Initial reconnaissance Split into three teams to survey structures, creature groups, unusual trees, and prominent landmarks 35.
Discovery of exploration targets Locate a collapsed building covered in luminous vines and a wolf pack beside a puddle roughly two kilometers east of the graveyard; confirm the pack lacks a wolf king 37.
Marsh wolf hunt Guide the expedition and lure wolves into individual ambushes until the remaining pack charges together 38.
Territorial clearing Conduct a comprehensive search for living creatures, enabling Gu Su to eliminate large targets within a one-kilometer radius 40.
Half-orc campaign Discover a settlement of roughly thirty armed orcs. After an initial decoy is killed, the flock helps draw enemies into prepared traps; a crow later summons Coyote’s transport squad 41 42 45.
Vine-covered building Discover a protected chemical workshop, guide elite skeleton warriors to it, and assist Gu Su’s investigation of the building’s effect on living creatures 49 50.

Relationships

  • Gu Su — Creator and commander; directs their reconnaissance, receives their reports, and uses them to coordinate expeditions 33 35 37 45.
  • Coyote — Transport-squad leader whom White Crows are assigned to guide and summon 41 45.
  • Skeleton forces — Ground units that follow the crows’ routes, exploit their decoys, and investigate locations they discover 38 39 50.
