World of Warcraft, Azeroth.
A timeline destined for destruction.
Year 4 of the Dark Portal, July 14th, sunny.
Dalaran, the "Kingdom of Magic."
"Lucky Ronin," who had just been promoted to a full-fledged mage, crept into the Forbidden Library of the Dalaran Library, which was off-limits to ordinary mages.
He intended to "borrow" the collection that Archmage Khadgar had brought back from Karazhan—the hidden books of Medivh, the "Astral Mage"!
Footsteps suddenly rang out.
Several Dalaran Iron Knights on patrol, not mounted on horses, were drawing closer.
Ronin was not worried at all.
He had experience.
A wealth of experience in struggle.
Ronin raised his staff and began casting.
"Invisibility!"
However...
Nothing happened.
"Huh? Where's my Invisibility? How did such a huge Invisibility spell just vanish?"
Ronin was baffled.
What was going on?
The footsteps drew closer.
Without time to think, Ronin cast the spell again.
Still nothing.
"That's not right. I've never heard that the Violet Hold suppresses magic!"
"Even if it did, Invisibility should just collapse and fail. It shouldn't disappear outright, without even a trace of residual magic."
"I clearly cast it successfully!"
The footsteps came closer.
And faster.
Clearly, the Dalaran Iron Knights had sensed the magical fluctuations and realized that someone was up to no good in the Forbidden Library, where casting spells—and even entering casually—was absolutely forbidden.
Ronin panicked. Refusing to believe it, he tried once more.
It disappeared again.
There was no longer time to cast. The Dalaran Iron Knights charged over.
"It's Ronin! Dalaran's scourge! I knew it was him! He got away the last few times! Quick, grab him!"
One Iron Knight shouted.
"No need to report this to Archmage Antonidas or Councilor Krasus. Throw him straight into solitary!" another Iron Knight dressed like a captain ordered grimly.
Ronin's face was full of bitterness.
Great. He would have to let Teacher Krasus bail him out again.
How embarrassing!
The Laboratory.
A well-equipped S.H.I.E.L.D. field team rushed into the Quantum Reaction Chamber.
"Don't move!"
"Hands up!"
"Face the wall and squat!"
The next moment, they froze.
There was no one in sight, not even the battery case.
Only the lonely Quantum Generator remained, accompanied by two laptops.
Grant Ward frowned.
As S.H.I.E.L.D.'s renowned "covert operations specialist," a Level 5 agent, he trusted his professional instincts—and trusted the Technology Department's new equipment even more.
The X-Projector's screen had clearly shown three people just moments ago!
Though their faces could not be seen, only rough outlines, it was still obvious that there were two men and one woman!
Where had such big living people gone? How had they disappeared in the blink of an eye?
Was there a hidden door or some mechanism?
Or perhaps optical equipment that distorted the light?
Like a large-scale stage illusion, making living people vanish?
"You two, guard this place!"
"You two, search the left!"
"You two, search the right!"
"Everyone else, search this room!"
Ward issued orders swiftly, then pressed his communicator and touched the third button on his shirt.
"Sir, they're gone!"
"The Quantum Generator Batteries are gone too!"
Five kilometers from The Laboratory, on a main road.
The red sports car Lola sped along.
Black Widow Natasha crossed one long, snow-white leg over the other, then took off her loose outerwear.
"Veteran driver" Coulson instinctively glanced over. His gaze followed her long leg downward, and he seemed to see something. His hand trembled in excitement, the steering wheel jerked, and the red sports car nearly had an intimate encounter with a large truck.
"Watch the road!" Natasha snorted as she put on her skintight combat suit.
The ringtone went off, concealing Coulson's embarrassment.
After hearing Ward's report, Coulson paused, then immediately ordered, "Lock down The Laboratory and continue the search."
After hanging up, Coulson made a sharp turn.
Screech!
Natasha was careless for a moment, and her tactical dagger cut through her underwear, exposing a flash of snow-white skin.
"What are you doing?" Natasha asked expressionlessly as she continued dressing.
Coulson stepped on the gas as he answered, "Someone took the Quantum Generator Batteries!"
Natasha frowned. "Stole them to sell?"
"One battery case could sell for at least a hundred thousand dollars... Or maybe they want to continue the related experiments!"
Coulson said, "My instincts tell me this has something to do with the accident at The Laboratory. An old friend from the Los Angeles Police told me they still haven't found the bodies of the other people from the lab. Not a drop of blood or a single hair either. It was as if they had vanished into thin air."
Natasha looked thoughtful. "I read the files. Eli built both the Quantum Generator and its batteries. Do you think the person who stole the batteries might be going after Eli?"
"They might also be going after Joseph. He's the supervisor of The Laboratory, the core of the team."
Coulson pressed his communicator. "Director, here's the situation... We're heading to Los Angeles Prison now... You've already sent people to protect Joseph at the hospital? A rapid-response special forces unit happens to be carrying out a mission nearby? The captain is Agent Brock Rumlow, a world-class martial arts master who considers Captain America his goal? All right."
Skye held her breath and carefully edged her way out.
Though she had no idea what was happening, it felt incredibly impressive.
The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. were right in front of them, yet they had not noticed her at all. Old Wang had been holding back a trick like this?
No, who knew how many tricks Old Wang had up his sleeve?
That guy was covered in secrets. He was practically the very definition of secrets!
Footsteps?
The breeze stirred up by walking?
Even breathing and heartbeats could alert exceptional agents, like the Level 5 covert operations specialist before them?
Sorry, they would not.
A strand of True Qi flowed from Old Wang's hand into her body, masking her heartbeat.
Hold her breath.
Walk slowly, leaving no trace.
Robbie was the same.
Old Wang walked at the front.
A Pandaren Monk master could sit in meditation and train atop a lotus leaf. As a Grandmaster, Old Wang was obviously even more incredible. Things like footsteps simply did not exist for him.
Carrying the case between two agents, Old Wang suddenly felt a little regretful.
The Quantum Generator was too big and had been installed directly into the floor, so he could not take it away.
But he could have taken those two laptops!
They were both the latest models, worth several thousand dollars each. How had he forgotten them?
Was it still too late to go back and get them?
Old Wang thought about it and decided there was still time.
But forget it.
S.H.I.E.L.D. definitely had ways to track the laptops. Once they went online, there would be no escaping. Skye's hacking skills were not strong enough yet. If S.H.I.E.L.D. really targeted them, she would be exposed.
Not worth it.
Old Wang turned back and smiled at Lucy, gentle and warm, like the boy next door.
Lucy and her three colleagues looked at one another as if they had seen a ghost. Suddenly feeling freezing cold, they trembled all over.
This guy... no, their boss actually had a trick like this? Invisibility, just like in movies and novels. It was incredible. It was terrifying.
They were done for. There was really no freedom left for them now. They might as well accept their fate.
They hurriedly followed.
The Dodge Charger was parked far away, in a place without surveillance cameras.
After getting in, Old Wang glanced at Lucy.
Lucy understood.
He wanted her to lead the way!
When you were under someone else's roof, you had no choice but to bow your head. Lucy sighed.
A full two hours later, the Dodge Charger stopped before a dilapidated old house in the countryside.
"This is the place? Hmm, I can sense a powerful dark force."
Old Wang recalled the Battle of Mount Hyjal.
Back then, with the help of the Bronze Dragon, he had traveled through time, personally killed Kil'jaeden's capable subordinate, "Reginald Winter," and obtained an epic-level spellbook, the Darkhold Chronicles.
The two had similar auras.
"Darkhold, here I come!"
Meanwhile, Coulson and Natasha stood before the surveillance monitors at Los Angeles Prison, staring unblinkingly at Eli on the screen.
"How much longer do we have to watch? Is someone really going to break him out?" Natasha shifted into a more comfortable position.
"My instincts tell me they definitely will." Coulson straightened up.
