Matthew looked around and found that he, Harry, and Cedric were in an enclosed room.
Bagman's voice came from the map. "Champions, do you see the button by the door?"
Matthew looked up and spotted a red button beside the room's only door.
Bagman continued, "What you need to do now is press that button!"
Following Bagman's instructions, Cedric pressed the red button.
In an instant, the door split open down the middle, revealing a dazzling halo of light.
Bagman explained, "You need to pass through this Light Door. Do not resist the Magic within it. Once you pass through the Light Door, you will enter the competition grounds!"
Matthew passed through the Light Door and felt it transforming him.
After emerging from the Light Door, he found himself in a forest of colossal trees. The trees here were unimaginably huge; even their leaves were larger than his entire body.
He was standing on a branch, and when he looked down at the ground, it felt as though he were standing on a cliff.
Harry stomped his foot after coming through the Light Door and exclaimed, "Is that a tree? It's enormous!"
"It's not that the trees are big. We got smaller," Matthew said.
"This is the Forbidden Forest, isn't it? So the first event was shrinking us and dropping us into the Forbidden Forest." Cedric surveyed their surroundings.
Because their size had changed so drastically, the terrain looked completely different from the Forbidden Forest they knew.
None of them had wands. They had handed them over to the staff before entering.
The organizers had said they would obtain new wands in the arena, and the Champions could only use those new wands to cast spells during the competition.
