Admissions and Education

• Martial Soul awakenings: Shrek teachers observe children’s awakenings and can recruit those with promising Martial Souls. Wang Zhi’s unusual Martial Soul attracted interest, but his level-three innate Soul Power did not earn him a place 1 2.
• Admissions routes: Federation-wide recruitment normally takes place every three years; separate, specially approved admissions are held annually and are largely controlled by major forces 93.
• Early recruitment: After losses among its senior figures, Shrek moved its next federation-wide intake forward by two years. Tens of thousands applied, and fewer than a hundred were admitted 93 95.
• Final examination: Students have fifteen days to reach Ming City through at least ten cities. In each city, they must defeat an opponent at least five cultivation levels above them. They travel alone, without outside help, money, personal resources, storage Soul Tools, or communication soul tools; observing teachers do not intervene even in life-threatening situations 111.

Organization and Resources

• Sea God Pavilion: Its master and elders form Shrek’s senior leadership. Yun Ming led the pavilion before Wang Zhi’s takeover 100 133.
• Outer and Inner Courts: Cai Yuer served as Outer Court dean; Inner Court students also served on the Shrek Inspection Team 37 44.
• Golden Ancient Tree: A foundation of the academy on Sea God Island and the final resting place of past Pavilion Masters’ souls. Its power helped Yun Ming recover during the assault on the island 121 134.
• Devil Island: The Seven Devil Elders guarded it for Shrek. Core disciples could train there, while outsiders who entered did not leave 73 79.

History

Shrek’s reputation for producing powerful Soul Masters made admission highly sought after. At the Tianhai Competition, its youth team defeated the previous champions in under a minute. Its prestige was challenged when Wang Zhi defeated Shrek student Ye Xinglan and later a four-ring Outer Court student 25 27 37.

Tensions with Wang Zhi escalated when Shrek Inspection Team members accused him of involvement in an Evil Soul Master incident. Cai Yuer intercepted him as he tried to leave Shrek City 44 45. Later, evidence exposed Cai Yuer and Supreme Elder Long Yeyue conspiring with the Holy Spirit Cult to sacrifice newly admitted students. Yun Ming stripped both of their positions, expelled them, and announced that Shrek would help pursue them 97 98 100.

Shrek’s annual final exams also strained its relationship with the Federation. Ming City prepared emergency services for the students’ arrival, while councilors criticized the destruction and cleanup costs associated with previous exams. The Federation subsequently arrested Shrek students and agreed to cooperate with Wang Zhi against the academy 111 112 113 114 118.

After Wang Zhi and his forces overwhelmed Shrek’s defenders, Sea God Island remained under a darkness blockade for months. Yun Ming stepped down, and the elders surrendered the academy’s sovereignty to Wang Zhi in exchange for their freedom, subject to restrictions against rebellion. Wang Zhi then took control of the Golden Ancient Tree and intercepted the Power of Faith flowing from the academy 122 133 134 135.
