Trial of the Sword

Edward walked over carrying the sword and saw Princess Andrea engrossed in her novel.

She wore a brown leather cuirass made from the hide of some unknown magical beast, and a pair of tight leather pants in a slightly darker shade.

She had her feet propped on the desk, her left leg crossed over her right. Her legs were stretched straight, showing off their long, graceful curves.

Edward swallowed and thought, What was that phrase again? "Those legs are worth a year of my life"?

So tacky. So terribly tacky!

But come to think of it, if he could talk the princess into wearing a schoolgirl outfit come summer, those long legs—

He couldn't think about that any longer. If he did, he'd turn into an "Old Biden" himself...

He cleared his throat and said,

"Your Highness, the gems have been set into the sword."

"Oh. That was quick." Andrea hastily lowered her feet, though she still clutched the novel and refused to put it down.

Edward smiled. "I bought this novel in Ailande. If you like it, you can take it home and read it."

Andrea didn't stand on ceremony. She slipped the book into her Spatial Ring and took the sword, examining it closely. Why hadn't he lent her all three novels at once? That way, he'd have an excuse to see her two more times!

Back in his Previous Life, the arrival of the internet had done away with the whole borrowing-and-returning-books routine. Edward had almost forgotten this ancient otaku trick for wooing girls!

Andrea turned the sword over in her hands for a moment, then asked,

"It doesn't look any different from before. What Magic Arrays did you inscribe inside it?"

"Don't rush. We haven't charged the gems yet!" Edward said.

"How do we charge them?"
