Background / History

Wu Changkong was formerly a student of Shrek Academy and is associated with a mysterious place referred to as “That Place.” His past is marked by an unresolved loss: his Battle Armor’s name, Heavenly Ice, incorporates the name of his beloved, Ice. He avoids using the armor because it intensifies his longing and threatens his ability to keep a promise made to her. 44 111

He became the strict instructor of East Sea Academy’s Class Five, where he trained Tang Wuyang, Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue through demanding physical drills, tactical combat, and direct sparring. 30 36

After bringing his disciples to Shrek Academy, Wu Changkong eventually reconciled with his own teacher, Zhuo Shi. He was permitted to remain on Sea God Island to serve Zhuo Shi. 123 143

Appearance

Wu Changkong is a striking man whose presence is associated with cold and refined swordsmanship.

  • Usually wears flowing white robes. 44
  • Has long lake-blue hair and dark-green eyes. 44
  • His arrival can make the surrounding temperature seem to drop. 44
  • His Battle Armor is white with silver patterns; while equipped, his eyes become radiant blue. 111
  • Wields the pale-blue Frost Sky Sword, which becomes the larger Tianbing Tianshuang Sword when he summons Heavenly Ice. 44 111

Personality

Wu Changkong is cold, stern, and emotionally restrained. He speaks bluntly, dislikes lively surroundings, and maintains a distant manner even when interacting with people who admire him. 44 123 227

Despite this reserve, he is deeply protective of his disciples. He personally confronts enemies threatening them, reacts with fury when Tang Wuyang is gravely injured, and continues supporting Tang Wuyang even after the latter’s disappearance by helping search for Gu Yue. 44 111 112 399

As an instructor, he favors practical experience over empty theory. His training is harsh, but he closely analyzes each student’s strengths, weaknesses, martial soul development, and possible future path. 36 41 59 72

Abilities & Skills

Frost Sky Sword

Wu Changkong’s martial soul is the Frost Sky Sword. His swordsmanship follows the principle of “One Sword Breaks Ten Thousand Techniques,” relying on precise technique and overwhelming control rather than elaborate exchanges. 36

  • Produces extreme-cold sword qi capable of piercing an opponent’s martial soul defenses. 44 45
  • Generates fine Sword Silk that can accurately sever or deflect multiple attacks at once. 90
  • Can disrupt the elemental structure and soul power connection of incoming techniques with a teaching cane or weapon strike. 57
  • His sword aura can freeze the air and suppress the momentum of stronger-looking opponents. 44

Seventh Soul Skill

At the Soul Saint level, Wu Changkong can merge into his enlarged Frost Sky Sword and freeze a broad expanse of ocean. 301

  • Used to temporarily control a sea battle and restrain Sea Soul Beasts. 301
  • Creates an ice surface that supports allied Spirit Masters during naval combat. 302

Heavenly Ice Battle Armor

Wu Changkong’s Two-Word Battle Armor is named Heavenly Ice. Its name combines “Heavenly,” from the Frost Sky Sword, and “Ice,” the name of his beloved. 111

  • Changes his weapon into the larger Tianbing Tianshuang Sword. 111
  • Allows his aura and strength to rise dramatically; Battle Armor Masters are stated to be at least twenty levels stronger than Soul Masters of the same rank. 111
  • Gives him strength comparable to an Eight-Ring Soul Douluo when equipped as a Six-Ring Soul Emperor. 112
  • At the Soul Saint stage, brings his combat ability close to that of a Title Douluo. 301

Tang Sect Secret Skills

Wu Changkong demonstrates and teaches several Tang Sect techniques.

  • Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — Uses evasive footwork fast enough to break an opponent’s lock-on. 90
  • Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — Demonstrates suction and repulsion force, then teaches the technique to Tang Wuyang. 104
    • Can pull, push, suspend, and safely redirect targets. 104
    • Its effectiveness increases with the user’s soul power and foundation in the Mysterious Heaven Skill. 104

Martial Soul Analysis and Instruction

Wu Changkong is highly knowledgeable about martial souls, mutations, bloodlines, and combat development.

  • Identifies Tang Wuyang’s Golden Scales as a unique power rather than a second martial soul or Martial Soul Fusion Skill. 41
  • Deduces that dragon-aura martial souls can trigger Tang Wuyang’s Golden Scales. 42
  • Advises Tang Wuyang to strengthen his soul power, mental power, and familiarity with the bloodline power to gain control over it. 42
  • Recognizes that Tang Wuyang’s bloodline can suppress or amplify pure dragon-type martial souls. 62
  • Recommends that Tang Wuyang combine water-element control with his hammers for close-quarters combat. 36

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Frost Sky Sword — Pale-blue sword martial soul. 44
  • Tianbing Tianshuang Sword — Enlarged crystalline-blue greatsword manifested with Heavenly Ice. 111
  • Heavenly Ice — Two-Word Battle Armor. 111
  • Wooden sword and teaching cane — Used during training to demonstrate technique, precision, and soul-power disruption. 36 57

Relationships

  • Tang Wuyang — Disciple. Wu Changkong guides his bloodline development, teaches him Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon, protects him in battle, and later helps search for Gu Yue on his behalf. 41 104 111 399
  • Tang Wulin — Disciple and Tang Wuyang’s brother. Wu Changkong studies the changes in Tang Wulin’s Holy Dragon Spear and closely watches over him during deep meditation. 59 112
  • Xie Xie, Gu Yue, and Xu Xiaoyan — Students trained by Wu Changkong through coordinated practical combat and increasingly difficult sparring exercises. 36 90
  • Zhuo Shi — Wu Changkong’s teacher. Wu Changkong apologizes to him and is allowed to remain on Sea God Island in service to him. 143
  • Shen Yi — A longtime acquaintance who knows him well and recognizes the return of “Heavenly Ice Wu Changkong.” 104 111
  • Ice — His beloved; the “Ice” in the name Heavenly Ice honors her memory and remains a source of grief for him. 111
