Background / History

Before taking form, Hongjun existed as a dense Innate Origin within Jade Capital Mountain, accompanied by the Creation Jade Plate. Lei Jun’s purifying purple radiance convinced him that the Heavenly Dao had emerged; he believed this signaled both the coming decline of Sha Qi and his own chance to take form. 10

After forming, Hongjun devoted hundreds of Eons to seeking opportunities. His accompanying Supreme Treasure, the Creation Jade Plate, allowed him to deduce the existence and approximate location of hidden fortunes. 17 One such deduction led him to a Qingqiu-area Grotto-Heaven Blessed Land. After thirty million years spent unraveling its formation, he entered and encountered Little Fox, who overwhelmed him and revealed the existence of Lei Jun Heaven alongside the conventional Heavenly Dao. 18

Little Fox kept Hongjun in the formation and forced him to use the Creation Jade Plate to deduce the Three Bodies Technique. Unbeknownst to him, Lei Jun had placed the relevant insight within the Jade Plate so that Hongjun would comprehend a method of Slicing the Three Selves rather than the expected Three Corpses Technique. 18 21 When the deduction was completed, Hongjun received Heavenly Dao Merit and severed his Past Body, becoming the first Quasi-Saint in the Primordial Wilderness. 22

After leaving the formation, Hongjun intervened when the Qilin Clan attacked the Qingqiu Fox Clan. He dispersed the Water Qilin’s attack, protected the Fox Clan, and forcibly claimed the Water Qilin as his mount. 23 He later hosted Dao discussions with Yang Mei, Qiankun Daoist, and Yin Yang Ancestor, where the group discussed cultivation, the Method of Severing the Body, and the threat posed by two competing Heavenly Daos. 26

Following his ascent to sainthood, Hongjun became the Heavenly Dao’s spokesperson and founded the Mysterious Gate. He arranged sermons at Lei Jun Palace to teach and transform all beings on behalf of Heaven, but the absence of several key cultivators—including Tongtian, Nüwa, and Fuxi—threw his intended arrangements into disorder. 45 48 50

Hongjun is intensely driven by opportunities and cultivation. After taking form, he spends hundreds of Eons pursuing fortunes revealed by the Creation Jade Plate, immediately setting out whenever it identifies a worthwhile chance. 17

He is proud of his cultivation and deduction ability, but encounters with Little Fox repeatedly humble him. Although he speaks respectfully and requests instruction after being suppressed, he privately resents being treated as a tool for her deductions. 18 21

As the Heavenly Dao’s spokesperson, Hongjun becomes deeply invested in preserving its expected trajectory. He is unsettled when major figures fail to attend his sermon and grows jealous when Nüwa and Tongtian advance beyond what he believes their original fates should permit. 45 50
