Background / History

Sakura is a high-level Moon Cell AI assigned to the infirmary, where she is responsible for treating injured Masters. After the surviving Masters awaken, the normally quiet infirmary leaves her without work. She experiences an unexplained impression of a brown-haired girl she associates with the reassuring word “Senpai” shortly before Shirou and Archer arrive carrying the injured Shirone. 938

She stabilizes Shirone after identifying his sudden mana loss as the likely consequence of forming a Servant contract. Shirou’s presence flusters her, as his resemblance to a figure connected to her vague sense of “Senpai” makes her wonder why there appear to be two of them. 938

Although she bears Sakura Matou’s face, hair, mannerisms, and even an identical hair tie, this Sakura has no memories of Shirou’s world. “Matou” is only a surname randomly assigned from the list of participating Servants; Sakura and her Earth counterpart are fundamentally different individuals. 939

During the effort to escape the Inner Moon, Sakura agrees to accept the remaining portion of the Five Meditation Obstacles and use her computational abilities to expand a shield’s functions. Sesshoin warns that taking in the “root of the sorcery” will overwrite Sakura’s basic personality, but Sakura accepts the danger for the sake of her two seniors. 959

She later clarifies that BB is neither her clone nor her direct duplicate: both are separate AIs created from the same Prototype. Sakura cannot relate to BB’s Alter Egos, but can use her permissions to prevent BB from invading the school building. 1050

Sakura resembles Sakura Matou closely enough that Shirou repeatedly mistakes her for the person he knows, despite knowing that she is a separate AI. 939
