After the apprenticeship ceremony ended, Zhen Hua went to work in the Forging Room, while Nan Liujing headed to the small kitchen alone.
Since Ye Changming still had matters to attend to, the group did not stay behind to keep chatting with Mu Ye and set off for home.
Upon arriving, Ye Changming hurried off to the Tang Sect headquarters again, intending to perfect his Battle Armor.
The enormous villa was suddenly left with only three children.
Ye Xinglan used three lollipops to trick Na'er into going to her room to play with dolls.
Then, expressionless, she approached Nan Liujing, who was reading in the courtyard.
"Hey, I have something to tell you."
Nan Liujing looked up at her.
Ye Xinglan planted her hands on her hips. "Does what you said this morning still count?"
"What did I say?" Nan Liujing had long forgotten.
Ye Xinglan pursed her lips. She seemed somewhat embarrassed and turned her head slightly aside. "Don't ask what it was. Just tell me whether it still counts."
"You have to make it clear." Nan Liujing spoke flatly.
A blush tinged Ye Xinglan's fair, lovely face as she turned away. The heroic air between her brows had already transformed into rare shame and anger. "If I call you Brother, you'll admit that Na'er is my little sister."
"Oh, that." Nan Liujing shook his head. "I was joking. You don't need to take it seriously."
"A joke?" Ye Xinglan, who had already prepared herself mentally, raised her delicate brows at once.
I thought about it for half the day and finally worked up the courage, and you're saying it was only a joke?
"No. I'm definitely calling you Brother, and no one can stop me." Ye Xinglan glared, her attitude allowing no refusal.
Nan Liujing was helpless. "Fine, fine. Go ahead. I'm listening."
"That's more like it." Ye Xinglan gave a proud hum. Just as she was about to speak, she suddenly noticed a hint of teasing in Nan Liujing's dark blue eyes. The words reached her lips, then stopped abruptly as realization dawned on her.
Something was wrong.
How had it become as though she were impatient to call him Brother?
At that moment, a figure appeared on the second floor of the villa. It was Na'er.
Her little head turned from side to side, as though she were looking for something.
Nan Liujing noticed her, but Ye Xinglan did not.
"If you're not calling me that, I'll go back to reading." Nan Liujing noticed Na'er walking toward the courtyard.
Ye Xinglan clenched her fists, took a deep breath, and forced two words through her teeth.
"Brother."
There was no technique, only emotion.
Nan Liujing shook his head. "Your voice isn't sweet at all."
Black lines seemed to streak across Ye Xinglan's forehead. "Don't push it."
"Sister Xinglan, did you also acknowledge Brother as your brother?"
Suddenly, a little head popped out beside Ye Xinglan.
Ye Xinglan's expression stiffened. She turned her head and saw Na'er blinking her beautiful purple eyes at her.
Ye Xinglan forced out a smile. "Na'er, hurry to the kitchen. There's ice cream cake I made in the refrigerator."
"Ice cream cake?" Na'er's eyes lit up instantly. Like a gust of wind, she raced toward the kitchen.
"Nan Liujing!" As soon as the little girl left, Ye Xinglan gritted her teeth. Starlight flashed around her hand as she prepared to kill her brother and attain enlightenment.
Nan Liujing reacted swiftly. He stepped forward and grabbed her right hand before she could summon the Stargod Sword, forcibly interrupting her skill activation. In his other hand, he held his phone, his thumb pressing the screen.
"Bro~ther."
A crisp, pleasant, yet ice-cold voice rang out.
Ye Xinglan stood frozen, staring at Nan Liujing in shock. "You recorded it?"
Nan Liujing smiled and rubbed her head. "This is the first lesson in life that I, as your brother, am teaching you. You always need to take precautions when doing things."
"And stop waving swords around at every turn. It'd be bad if you hurt the flowers and grass."
Under Ye Xinglan's stunned gaze, Nan Liujing returned to normal, holding his metal encyclopedia and reading seriously.
Warm sunlight fell across his handsome face. His tousled black hair swayed gently. Ye Xinglan suddenly forgot what she had wanted to say and could only stare at this rude fellow.
"Who needs you to teach me?"
The sensation of his hand rubbing her head seemed to linger. A faint flush crossed Ye Xinglan's smooth, jade-like face. She pursed her lips, turned her head away awkwardly, and left.
"Let's go shopping tonight."
Nan Liujing's voice came from behind her. "Your combat skills are the strongest among all the peers I've seen, but you're terrible at communicating with people. You put on an aloof, exclusionary front and keep yourself away from others, like the Instinctual Spirituality of metal, sealing off your own world. So balancing work and rest is the second lesson I want to teach you."
"Na'er and I are both your friends. Just like the External Spirituality a blacksmith grants metal, it depends on whether you're willing to trust us."
Ye Xinglan halted, her beautiful eyes trembling faintly.
A typhoon had arrived, but it passed quickly. Aolai City, already a peaceful little city, became even quieter. Drizzling rain drifted through the sky, and only occasionally did passersby step through the puddles.
In a small room of less than ten square meters, Tang Wulin woke from meditation once again, looking somewhat distracted.
Ever since he had encountered the human trafficker outside the academy that day, he did not know why, but whenever he meditated, he would fall into a restless, feverish state. A deep voice even echoed in his ears, making it impossible for him to focus on meditation.
The cultivation speed of the Blue Silver Grass Martial Soul was already slow. Now that this was happening, he had fallen completely into a state of agitation.
He looked out the window. The sky was pitch-black, like a cage that oppressed the heart.
"I should eat something to calm down."
With no better way to ease himself, Tang Wulin decided to use his usual method and turn his grief and indignation into appetite.
But just as he got out of bed and his feet touched his slippers, the world spun around him. He fell backward onto the bed.
His clear black-and-white eyes seemed to lose their light as his consciousness gradually entered a pitch-black world.
Vaguely, he seemed to hear an enraged voice, but he could not make out what it was saying.
"How could one strand of the Golden Dragon King's bloodline be missing?"
At some unknown point, blue bricks had paved the floor of the empty Sea of Consciousness. The surroundings had transformed into a vast, ancient hall. Above the hall floated a giant dragon radiating brilliant gold light, seventeen rings of light circling its body.
A figure in a luxurious blue robe stood beneath it, looking up at the giant dragon. His handsome face was filled with shock and fury.
As the divine consciousness Tang San had left behind to suppress the Golden Dragon King bloodline and teach his son cultivation, it was one of his greatest trump cards before returning to Douluo Star.
Yet precisely because of this, when the Golden Dragon King bloodline's bloodline strength weakened, the divine consciousness that should not have awakened so early was roused against its will.
After a long while, huge waves stirred in Tang San's deep, abyss-like eyes. His cold voice echoed through the vast Sea of Consciousness. "Whoever dared steal my son Wulin's bloodline truly has a death wish."
Tang San turned around and looked through the deep mist, seeing a lost and helpless little boy.
A trident mark appeared between his brows. That strand of divine consciousness transformed into Blue-Gold Light and plunged into the little boy's body.
On the bed, light returned to Tang Wulin's eyes, though they now faintly carried a clear blue-gold hue.
"Wulin, Mother warmed some mi—"
Suddenly, the room door opened, and a young woman who was not especially beautiful but full of charm appeared in Tang San's eyes.
She carried a tray with a steaming cup of milk and several biscuits on it.
Before Lang Yue could finish speaking, a blue-gold afterimage flashed before her eyes. Her expression became stunned, and she left exactly as she had come.
Tang San extended his hand. In his palm, it was as though he had seized a giant dragon trying to soar into the heavens. Strands of Sea God's Power pierced into the dragon's body, triggering a Towering roar of pain.
"I want to see who has such nerve as to steal the Golden Dragon King bloodline."
A hazy scene of light fed back from the giant dragon. Tang San immediately received it. His gaze seemed to pierce through space, and at a glance, he saw a massive ancient city and a handsome young boy.
Apparently not expecting the one who had stolen the Golden Dragon King bloodline to be so young, a trace of surprise flashed between Tang San's brows. But then he seemed to recall something and muttered in a deep voice, "So young, yet already wielding an Evil Artifact. If he falls into the demonic path, he may cause irreparable damage to the continent. As a God King, I must take it away and seal it, then purify it with the Sea God's Righteous and Kind Power."
As his words fell, layer upon layer of seawater manifested before "Tang San." It soon enveloped Tang Wulin's body. With a whoosh, the small room fell silent in an instant.
Heaven Dou City at night possessed scenery unlike that of other major cities.
Travelers from all over, tired of looking at forests of steel, quickly became immersed after plunging into this ancient world.
Led by the Heaven Dou City Cultural Tourism Association, all manner of theaters were scattered throughout the city.
There were performances depicting the birth of the first Soul Master, leading humanity to establish homes and resist Soul Beasts.
There were performances about the growth of human tribes, their mutual slaughter, and their eventual evolution into kingdoms and even empires.
There were stories of the Heaven Dou Empire and Star Luo Empire joining forces against Spirit Hall, ultimately crushing the "evil" Spirit Hall Empire under Tang San's leadership.
Only Huo Yuhao had no story. They could hardly stage a tale of the Ice Jade Douluo beating up the army of the Sun Moon Empire, the Federation's predecessor, could they?
Nan Liujing and Ye Xinglan took Na'er along to admire the scenery, but before they knew it, they had arrived at the food street.
Seeing Na'er's excited expression, Nan Liujing and Ye Xinglan suddenly understood why the little girl had grown happier and happier as they walked.
Built alongside Heaven Dou Park, the food street covered a vast area. Looking out, all kinds of signs shone brightly, while enticing aromas had long mixed into the air, making mouths water.
The crowds either deliberated over what to eat and compared options, or stopped in place and took out Federation Coin to make purchases. It was exceptionally lively.
"Sister Xinglan, Brother, do you want some Shachang Stinky Tofu?" Na'er fixed her eyes on a stinky tofu stall. The air around it smelled wonderfully foul.
"Then let's have it together." There had not been as many smiles on Ye Xinglan's face in the previous six years combined as there were today.
"Let's get a serving." Nan Liujing did not refuse.
Na'er excitedly pulled Ye Xinglan into a jog toward the stall, with Nan Liujing following behind.
"I found you."
Suddenly, time and space seemed to freeze. An indifferent voice, like wind pouring into his ears, entered Nan Liujing's mind.
He stopped and turned his head.
The straight food street, once crowded with diners, was now empty. Only steam still rose from the food carts.
Bang!
The next instant, space shattered like a mirror, revealing an enormous gap as a tsunami surged wildly from the distance.
Nan Liujing did not even have time to react before the current swept him away.
"Nan Liujing, do you want a large or medium—"
Ye Xinglan turned her head, then froze. The crowd continued moving, but the young man was nowhere to be seen.
Across an empty plaza, endless water flowed. A figure was violently hurled out and slammed heavily against a barrier-like curtain of water, then rebounded and fell back to the ground.
Nan Liujing tasted blood in his throat and spat out a mouthful. Enduring the agonizing pain, he looked ahead, his pupils shrinking sharply.
A Water Elemental Figure, a little shorter than him and seemingly formed from water itself, stood there without facial features.
The Silver Dragon King, or Ah Yin and Tang Hao?
Nan Liujing said nothing, watching with cold eyes.
"Hand over the Evil Thing on your body, and I can spare your life." The Water Elemental Figure spoke indifferently.
Nan Liujing said coldly, "I don't understand what you mean."
"Tang San" said nothing. He raised his right hand through the air. In an instant, the plaza seemed to sink into the deep sea. The light dimmed, hazy and profound, as terrifying pressure crazily crushed down on Nan Liujing.
Nan Liujing's skin split open instantly. The invisible pressure seemed intent on crushing him into a mist of blood. Everything within his sight had already turned scarlet.
Is this the end?
"For a dignified Limit Douluo to attack a junior, that really is shameless."
Suddenly, as Nan Liujing struggled beneath pain comparable to being struck by lightning, an icy, regal voice came from the sky. A scorching light like a blazing sun fiercely shattered the water curtain covering the world, tearing apart all the crushing pressure at the same time.
Surging flames boiled across heaven and earth. As they flowed, Phoenix Feathers appeared one after another, accompanied by the faint clangorous cry of a phoenix.
The invisible pressure receded like a tide. Nan Liujing felt as though he had emerged from water, taking deep breaths as he looked ahead.
The first thing he saw was a pair of legs longer than his life. The newcomer wore Battle Armor woven from scarlet and white gold, flowing golden-red patterns on its surface like flames burning across the armor. On both shoulders, incandescent Phoenix Feathers appeared as though outlined by an artist, lifelike enough to seemingly transform into enormous Phoenix Wings the moment they spread.
"Tang San" had not expected someone to interfere. He narrowed his eyes and said indifferently, "If I were you, I would not involve myself. Otherwise, the consequences will not be something you can bear."
Dealing with a child alone would naturally be easy and would not consume much divine consciousness energy. But dealing with a Limit Douluo would consume energy countless times greater than before. It would be best if he could force her to retreat.
A cold smile curved Leng Yaozhu's full, rosy lips. She grabbed with both hands, and the surrounding flames instantly converged, transforming into two longswords bearing Phoenix Totems.
"Then I'd like to see just how serious these consequences are."
"Stubborn fool." A beam of blue-gold light shot from between "Tang San's" brows and landed in his hand, transforming into an entirely black trident. He lightly tapped it against the ground.
As though the stars had shifted and the heavens spun, the world before Nan Liujing and Leng Yaozhu was no longer a plaza, but an ocean entirely condensed from Water Element.
An endless sea stretched all around them, deep and dark, seemingly impossible to reach the end of. The two of them stood right upon its surface.
Leng Yaozhu's expression changed drastically. "Peak Quasi-God? No, perhaps even Divine Level! You wield a trident—you're connected to the Sea God!"
Nan Liujing's entire body trembled. He rose with difficulty, his expression grim. With the ability to command Water Element and instantly alter heaven and earth, aside from Tang San, he truly did not know who else could do it.
It seemed the Heavenly Tribulation Pearl's theft of the Golden Dragon King bloodline that day had drawn the attention of the person behind Tang Wulin—perhaps Ah Yin, perhaps Tang Hao. In any case, Tang San had come for him now.
This was dangerous!
The dragons of Douluo Continent were a little unclear. By our understanding, they should all be Western dragons, but Dou San described the Golden Dragon King as a Five-Clawed Golden Dragon. Damn it.
Leng Yaozhu's Battle Armor was made by Zhen Hua, as mentioned in the original work, around Chapter 1864, Battle of the Twin Phoenixes. But in my setting, before Zhen Hua became a Divine Craftsman, Leng Yaozhu used the Nourishing Method to raise her Battle Armor's level. It still fell short of a Full Heavenly Forging Four-word Battle Armor, and she later sought Zhen Hua's help to improve it.
