After saying goodbye to Professor McGonagall, Anduin headed up the main tower. On the Seventh Floor, he found a gargoyle and recited the password Professor McGonagall had taught him. The gargoyle leaped aside, and the stone wall behind it split in two, revealing a spiral staircase that wound slowly upward.
When Anduin entered the office, Dumbledore was standing behind the door, amusing a beautiful, fiery red bird perched on a branch. It looked very much like the phoenixes he had seen in his picture books.
Dumbledore turned around and smiled at Anduin. "Sorry. Fawkes has been feeling rather lonely lately. I haven't been spending much time in my office, so I've been keeping him company and didn't notice you."
"I just came in, Mr. Headmaster. Is Fawkes a phoenix? He looks a lot like the phoenix in the picture book I saw." Anduin smiled at Headmaster Dumbledore and asked curiously.
"Yes, your powers of observation are sharp. For a phoenix, he's very sensitive. It's quite a challenge for an old man like me." Dumbledore playfully teased Fawkes, who turned his head away with an air of aloofness, apparently unimpressed by Dumbledore's jibe. The headmaster could only shrug to ease the awkwardness.
Seeing how expressive the phoenix was, Anduin found him fascinating and couldn't help taking a few more looks at Fawkes.
"All right, he's rather shy. Staring at him will only make him uncomfortable. Come and sit down." Seeing that Fawkes wasn't paying Anduin much attention, Dumbledore spoke up.
What a haughty little thing, Anduin silently remarked to himself as he followed Dumbledore to the desk and sat down.
Only then did Anduin have a chance to take a careful look around the headmaster's office. It was a spacious, beautiful circular room, and portraits of former headmasters and headmistresses hung
