Background / History

Service to the Sea God

Bo Saixi served as Sea God Island's High Priest, guarding Sea God Hall and overseeing the Seven Sacred Pillar Guardians. She was recognized as one of the Three Great Peerless Douluo. Her duties originally prevented her from leaving the island, leaving her knowledge of mainland affairs roughly twenty years out of date 230 284 285.

Tang Chen and Qiandao Liu both pursued her in the past, but she favored Tang Chen. He promised to return after becoming a god, then disappeared during his pursuit of the Asura God Inheritance. Bo Saixi continued waiting for him for many years 230 268 287.

Hope of Changing Her Fate

Poseidon instructed Bo Saixi to assist his approaching successor and gave her hope that Ye Liangchen could change her fate. When Qiandao Liu later visited and confessed his feelings, she rejected him and instead asked about Ye Liangchen 195 268.

Bo Saixi met Ye Liangchen's group when they arrived at Sea God Island. She welcomed them under the Sea God's instructions and arranged their assessments. During a private walk, Ye Liangchen promised both to help her reach godhood and to prevent the sacrifice normally required of her when the Sea God's successor inherited the divine seat 284 285.

Her conversations with Ye Liangchen also changed her attitude toward Tang Chen. After learning about the decline of Clear Sky Sect and the dangers of intervening on its behalf, she concluded that she owed neither Tang Chen nor his descendants such assistance. She chose to focus on helping Shui Yue'er inherit Sea Godhood instead 287 288.

Freedom and Mainland Travel

Ye Liangchen challenged the restrictions imposed on Sea God Island's residents and guardians. In response, Poseidon apologized to Bo Saixi and released her from the obligation to guard Sea God Hall every day. She subsequently instructed the island's leaders to follow Ye Liangchen's arrangements and avoid unnecessary conflict with Spirit Hall 303 304 305.

Bo Saixi then accompanied Ye Liangchen to the mainland for the first time. At the Soaring Dragon Ocean Fleet headquarters, she publicly declared that Sea God Island's hostility toward Spirit Hall had ended. She also sparred with Bibi Dong, gaining a powerful friend and rival 306 308 310.

While traveling, she helped take in Little Li, Little Ling, and Little Yun as maids and expressed an intention to teach them cultivation. Ye Liangchen later helped her reach level 100 Soul Power, beginning her lengthy conversion to Divine Power 317 322.

Continued Protection of Sea God Island

Despite wanting to retire, Bo Saixi remained involved in the island's defense and administration. She sought stored spirit rings for its Soul Masters so they could advance without dangerous sea hunts, responded to Blood Pupil Douluo's attack, and helped restore order after the crisis 341 368 370 380.

She also continued serving as an examiner. Ye Liangchen's fifth test required him to defeat her after overcoming the Seven Sacred Pillar Guardians. He defeated her Sea God Descent with the Emperor Seal Art's Five Seals United as One, and she acknowledged his strength and potential 380 385.

Ascension and Succession

Bo Saixi organized the welcome for Shui Yue'er's final inheritance and presided over the ceremony, charging her with responsibility for protecting the ocean. Ye Liangchen opened the Gate of Inheritance with Space Divine Power, allowing Bo Saixi to survive the transition without sacrificing herself 459 471.

After Shui Yue'er became the Sea God, Ye Liangchen completed Bo Saixi's transformation into a god. Bo Saixi and Shui Yue'er then selected Sea Dragon Douluo as the new High Priest, with Kaman Si chosen to replace him at the Sea Dragon Sacred Pillar. Bo Saixi personally raised Kaman Si's Soul Power from level 88 to level 90 so he could obtain his ninth spirit ring 472 473.

Following her ascension, she dissolved her Martial Soul and spirit rings while retaining their skills. She continued traveling between Sea God Island and the mainland with Shui Yue'er, spending most of her time on the continent 474 475 479.

Appearance

  • White hair: Mainland observers repeatedly identify her as a white-haired beauty with an exceptional bearing 308 310.
  • Red clothing: Appears in red when she intervenes during Ye Liangchen's arrival at Sea God Island 284.
  • Red star forehead mark: Ye Liangchen uses this mark as the point of contact when examining the shackles within her Sea of Soul 472.
  • Youthful appearance: At 120 years old, she is described as looking eighteen because of her high cultivation level 295.
  • Golden radiance upon ascension: Emits dazzling golden light when her Soul Power finishes transforming into Sea God Power 472.

Personality

Bo Saixi initially combines strict authority with deep religious devotion. She reprimands guardians who abandon their posts, insists that mainland visitors prepare for demanding assessments, and reacts anxiously when Ye Liangchen speaks irreverently about the Sea God 284 285 289 303.

The younger generation gradually draws her out of her isolation. Their energy revives her interest in life, while Ye Liangchen's concern for her freedom makes her increasingly affectionate and playful. She remains protective of the island's residents, seeking safer cultivation resources and supporting the training of future leaders 287 298 341 472.

Her affection for Ye Liangchen begins with sympathy and a maternal attitude, then develops into romantic feelings. She initially feels guilty because he is still a young man and resolves to wait until attaining godhood before expressing those feelings. Ye Liangchen continues treating her as an older-sister figure during their mainland travels 289 313 314.

Abilities & Skills

Sea God Martial Soul

Before dissolving it, Bo Saixi wielded the Sea God Martial Soul with nine spirit rings: eight black and one red 310 357.

  • Martial Soul Avatar: Uses it in her first spar with Bibi Dong 310.
  • Sea God Descent: A major combat technique defeated by Ye Liangchen's Five Seals United as One 385.
  • Water control: Calms the waves in a valley and raises seven Deep Sea Silver Pillars for the Tidal Body Refining trial 357.
  • Protective Soul Power: Shields nearby trainees from the debris produced by Ye Liangchen's attack demonstration 306.

Emperor Seal Art

Ye Liangchen teaches Bo Saixi techniques from the Emperor Seal Art after she asks to learn his Mountain Splitting Seal 356 358.

  • Mountain Splitting Seal: Her starting point for learning the art 358.
  • Earth Covering Seal: Uses it during the response to the attack on Sea God Island; afterward, she judges her strength sufficient to defeat the Tang Chen and Qiandao Liu of their earlier era 370.
  • Sea Overturning Seal: Counters Bibi Dong's Asura, Threefold Life-Extinguishing Slash, producing explosions and towering waves 394.

Martial Soul Fusion with Ye Liangchen

Bo Saixi fuses her Sea God Martial Soul with Ye Liangchen's Sword Spirit as part of his third trial. Their eighteen spirit rings overlap, and the fused form becomes a sword god wielding a long sword 357.

  • Ye Liangchen accelerates the fusion by sending his Divine Sense Avatar into her Sea of Soul 357.
  • Using two divine skills in succession heavily depletes her Soul Power, forcing her to end the fusion and rely on Ye Liangchen to carry her back 357.
  • Completing the assessment fulfills Ye Liangchen's trial; Bo Saixi remains interested in using the fusion again 358.

Divine Power

Bo Saixi's completed ascension transforms all her Soul Power into Sea God Power 472.

  • Cultivation assistance: Raises Kaman Si from level 88 to level 90 with Divine Power 473.
  • Retained divine skills: Keeps her former spirit skills after dissolving her Martial Soul and spirit rings 475.
  • Faster activation: Can use those skills without first summoning a Martial Soul or reciting spirit incantations 475.

Trial Administration and Spiritual Perception

  • God Test supervision: Arranges assessments, explains trial conditions, and awards God-given Spirit Rings 288 290 302.
  • Spiritual perception: Senses disturbances among the Sacred Pillar Guardians and examines Ye Liangchen's physical condition during training 284 290.
  • Flight: Travels rapidly across Sea God Island and carries Ye Liangchen ahead of the trainees 288 306.
  • Delegation: Temporarily hands her scepter and examiner responsibilities to Ya Li while taking time away from Sea God Hall 306 357.

  • Shui Yue'er — The Sea God's successor, whom Bo Saixi guides through the inheritance. Their relationship is affectionate, and they celebrate their ascensions together before arranging the island's new leadership 471 472.
  • Poseidon — The god she devoutly serves. He initially binds her to her duties, later grants her freedom, and permits her use of Sea God Power in cultivation 195 303 355.
  • Tang Chen — Former love interest whose promised return never occurs. Bo Saixi eventually stops waiting for him and rejects any obligation to protect his descendants 230 287 288.
  • Qiandao Liu — Former suitor. She rejects his renewed confession when he visits Sea God Island 268.
  • Bibi Dong — Friendly rival. Their spars develop into mutual admiration; a later clash becomes dangerous enough for Ye Liangchen to stop it with Time Reversal 310 394.
  • Ya Li — Maid, secretary, and trusted deputy who assumes temple and examination duties in Bo Saixi's absence 290 306 357 472.
