I'd never heard of him.
But if he was with Dumbledore, he was surely no ordinary person.
Sirius looked at the young face that had changed but somehow remained youthful, then nodded slightly.
"Of course. If possible, I'd be willing to give it a try."
Dumbledore said nothing.
He stroked his beard, seeming to consider something.
Klein wasn't in a hurry. He simply waited.
More than ten minutes passed. Kreacher had even brought out the cooked food before the old man finally made up his mind.
"Then let's give it a try."
That was all Klein had been waiting for. He took out his wand.
He carefully explained to Dumbledore and Sirius.
"This is a spell I learned recently. It can trace back through time. By projecting the past, we can learn the truth."
"The Trace Back Curse?"
Dumbledore couldn't help interjecting.
"More or less."
Klein shrugged.
The spell had roughly the same effect as the Trace Back Curse, but its power came from the Necronomicon.
With a wave of his wand, he first conjured a vast, gray mist, making the entire living room seem unreal and indistinct. Then he silently recited an incantation.
"Vmmm!"
Somewhere beyond their sight, a great door opened, and the sound of a rushing river came from within.
The mists of history rose slowly, then plunged down all at once.
Dumbledore and Sirius felt their souls being pulled out. Before they could resist, they were absorbed into the mist.
Time shifted.
Back, back, back!
One moment, they were in the living room on the second floor of the Black Old House. The next, they were in Godric's Hollow.
Thirteen years in the past, of course.
"Good heavens."
