Snape usually looked as if the whole world owed him money. When Lockhart showed up, there wasn't a trace of a smile left on his face.

If he could, Klein would have loved to cast "Sectumsempra" at Gilderoy Lockhart's stupid face.

He swore to heaven, he really wanted to.

The young wizards, though, were delighted. Their substitute professor, Snape, had finally finished class!

The weather grew colder, and every young wizard bundled up in a thick sweater.

On Christmas Day, many students went home to spend the holiday with their parents.

But Harry Potter and his good friend Ron Weasley stayed at school.

"This might be the best Christmas I've ever had."

Harry spoke through a mouthful of food as he ate the breakfast the House-elves had prepared so carefully for the students. His face was full of happiness.

He'd received lots of presents that morning: a handmade flute from Hagrid, a sweater from Mrs. Weasley, a large box of horseshoe-shaped chocolates from Hermione, a Cloak of Invisibility of unknown origin, and Wizard Chess from Ron.

As for the gift from Privet Drive—the fifty-pence coin—he'd already given it to Ron, who was fascinated by Muggle things. Out of sight, out of mind.

Harry and Ron were chatting happily over breakfast when two nearly identical boys suddenly came up to them.

They were Fred and George, the cheerful twin brothers from the Weasley family.
