In the detention hall, the Rock Grand Knight Commander stood frozen for quite some time.
An investigation was certainly necessary, but how should he conduct it? Who exactly should he investigate? He had to think it through first, because he had already gone over everyone who had passed through here today.
First were the two students responsible for the interrogation. They had spent many years at the Knight Academy, so they were highly unlikely suspects.
Next, the fellow on watch seemed to have come here too, along with that kid Lu Yuan. None of them could be left out; everyone needed to be checked.
However, the Rock Grand Knight Commander understood one thing clearly: this probably was not a matter of who had done it. There was not the slightest trace of a break-in, an abduction, or assistance in an escape. The protective barrier inscriptions had remained completely intact throughout. The Heretic had essentially split open on his own. In other words, outside tampering and suicide were two entirely different matters.
Therefore, the Rock Grand Knight Commander did not intend to interrogate anyone as a specific suspect. There was only one thing he wanted to confirm: whether everyone involved in deciphering eerie inscription studies was absolutely safe.
If everyone was absolutely safe and the Heretic had died anyway, then so be it.
Losing a captain-level source of intelligence certainly hurt, but it was still acceptable. At worst, he could have the knights out on assignments capture another couple of Heretics.
And so, a second internal investigation quietly began. As long as there was nothing wrong with them, those involved in the deciphering work could carry on as usual. No one would notice a thing.
Meanwhile, in the neighboring inscription room, Lu Yuan stuffed the book in his hand back into
