"These are all the ingredients she used that night. We checked the medicine cabinets in both rooms, one ingredient at a time."
Lu Yuan looked down. The booklet listed seven ingredients: three herbs, three materials taken from Eerie beings, and one stone.
One of the herbs was Fuzzfilter Grass. Its leaves were covered in fine hairs that caught impurities while letting clear liquid pass through.
One of the Eerie materials was Shell-Shedding Lizard Skin, a cast-off shell from a lizard-shaped Eerie being. Added to a mixture, it caused the combined ingredients to separate into layers.
The last ingredient was Water-Separating Stone. It drew water out of a medicinal solution while absorbing as little else as possible.
Of the seven ingredients, Water-Separating Stone had been used in the greatest quantity. The others were all connected to separation, too.
"They're all ingredients used for separation." Oden's voice sounded in Lu Yuan's mind after a single glance. "I think I know what the girl was trying to do."
"She must have used a large amount of Water-Separating Stone to separate the liquid from its active components, then tried to work backward and identify the main ingredients. Something probably happened during the separation. She stripped out something extraordinary, and that caused what we saw that night."
"But what kind of material could cause a disaster like that when the ingredients contained only a trace of it?" Oden's voice grew grave. "That's what we need to watch out for."
