Mist drifted slowly past Lu Yuan and Frey on either side.
Their surroundings began to change in subtle ways.
The first things to appear were piles of stones.
One pile after another, each half a person's height, stood scattered across the terrain. They were built from human bones, the bones of other unknown creatures, and occasional protruding Black Stones. From the way they had been stacked, they were clearly the work of human hands.
Blackened hollows remained in the centers of the piles, shaped rather like campfire pits.
Lu Yuan slowed a little and took a few extra looks.
Everyone dragged into this world was a consciousness entity. They could go without food or water. At least, Lu Yuan had yet to feel any hunger or thirst.
So what exactly were they lighting fires for?
Lu Yuan couldn't quite work it out, so he simply made a mental note and kept moving.
Signs of fighting began to appear on the ground.
The dark red earth had been churned into a mess. Broken bone fragments were embedded in several deep pits, and a few ruined cages of flesh lay scattered nearby, their crooked frames arching over the ground.
The flesh forming the cages had long since shriveled. Clearly, fighting had taken place here, more than once, and it must have gone on for quite some time.
Lu Yuan ran on for a while longer before the terrain suddenly dipped. A deep depression emerged through the thin mist ahead.
A ring of walls stood around the depression, built from masses of bone fragments and stones. Uneven in height, they enclosed a sizable area. Within them, he could just make out the outlines of several tents. From a distance, those tents looked as though they had been pieced together from scraps of cloth.
