The trail had gone cold, but they still had a direction.
Everyone packed up their things and headed out through the collapsed opening behind the main tent.
By now, the dense fog had completely dispersed.
Nothing obscured the sky overhead anymore, and visibility was astonishingly good. But Lu Yuan knew perfectly well that this was no blessing. The fog had sheltered the Wanderers, and it had sheltered them too. Now that it was gone, new Heretics could come knocking at any moment. Their location might be discovered in the very next second.
The time they had left to move around might be their last chance to act.
They had to use that time to find a Wanderer and establish contact as best they could, because Lu Yuan desperately wanted to know whether it was possible to regain one's sanity in this world.
Not long after they passed through the opening, Lu Yuan stopped dead.
There was a figure on the land in the distance.
The figure was emaciated and decayed, little more than a skeleton. He was crouching on the ground, arranging Black Stones, seemingly making some kind of marker.
"It's a Wanderer!" Frey's voice burst in his ear. "It's one of them!"
Everyone looked over at once.
The Wanderer bent over the stones also noticed the four people in the distance. He straightened, then darted away, gliding with an utterly bizarre posture toward a low hollow between two rises behind him. In an instant, he vanished from their sight.
"After him!" Lu Yuan shot forward first. "Catch up to him!"
The Blue Knight and Brunkel immediately followed.
But Lu Yuan soon realized something was wrong. Their speed was nowhere near enough to keep up with the Wanderer. Whatever method he was using, he moved outrageously fast across this land.
