History

Founding and early settlement

Dongxuan City began as a ten-li-by-ten-li constructed city arranged in a Nine Palaces Eight Trigrams pattern. Its initial layout was divided into nine regions and featured eight city gates. 152

Ye Qingxuan established the named city around Wan Ling Mountain. Its core contained Dongxuan Market, while the interior of Wan Ling Mountain housed the Dongxuan Blessed Land, a Tier 5 Spirit Land illuminated by the mountain’s Tier 5 Spirit Vein Source. 179

The first major population influx came from Qingguang City. Over nearly sixty days, more than 80% of Qingguang City’s residents migrated into Dongxuan City, receiving courtyard homes and allocated land. 182 183

Public opening and commercial rise

Ye Qingxuan publicly declared the city’s establishment and announced an auction intended to open the city to outside cultivators. He used the preparation period to establish interconnected teleportation arrays with five neutral Nascent Soul-level city-states; further cities later sought connections as Dongxuan City’s reputation spread. 184 186

Dongxuan City opened early ahead of the East Xuan Auction. When Luo Jiutian attacked at the East Gate, the City Guard Formation killed the Nascent Soul Mid Stage cultivator, establishing the Dongxuan Edict as an enforceable law rather than a symbolic proclamation. 188 189

Within thirty years, strict enforcement of the Edict, a steady flow of visiting cultivators, and the East Xuan Market raised the city’s average daily profit to 100,000 High-grade Spirit Stones. 209

Southward migration and expansion

Ye Qingxuan detached the city from its original foundation using an Anti-gravity Great Formation, then moved it through paired Traction Great Formations to the Water Marsh Kingdom. 301

Dongxuan City was suspended over Dongxuan Lake rather than allowed to sink beneath its waters. After the relocation, Ye Qingxuan claimed the entire Water Marsh Kingdom as Dongxuan City territory and ordered the construction of its expanded urban area. 306

The expansion incorporated city walls around the Water Marsh Kingdom, spirit-vein restrictions, cave mansions, and residential courtyards. The original city remained intact, while the surrounding kingdom became the basis of the new districts. 306 307

Dominance in Xingluo State

During the Azure Devil Race invasion, Dongxuan City became a refuge for cultivators, mortals, and even other city lords. Several Nascent Soul-led cities merged into the city while retaining autonomy through their own Demon Hunting Armies. 462

Dongxuan City later compelled Xingluo State’s major powers to transfer their territorial foundations, bringing the entire state under its jurisdiction. 545

After a further hundred years of formation expansion, the Seventh-tier Star Dou Great Formation covered all of Xingluo State. Ye Qingxuan then introduced state-wide reforms encouraging cultivators to establish villages, towns, and cities, recruit mortal residents voluntarily, operate Dongxuan Academy branches, and participate in cultivation competitions. 546

Layout and Infrastructure

Core area

  • Wan Ling Mountain — The city’s central mountain and location of the City Lord’s Mansion. 179 184
  • Dongxuan Market / East Xuan Market — Cultivator trading district surrounding Wan Ling Mountain; its spiritual-energy density initially reached the standard of a Second-tier Spirit Land. 179
  • Dongxuan Blessed Land — A cultivation space excavated inside Wan Ling Mountain; it later develops into a top-tier Sixth-grade Blessed Land. 179 490
  • Teleportation Plaza — Houses the city’s interconnected teleportation arrays and serves as a major entry point for visiting cultivators. 319 322

Residential districts

  • The first migrant households received two-story duplex courtyard homes, while commercial buildings in the early mortal districts were generally three or four stories high. 182
  • Dongxuan City initially assigned residents across 10,800 districts; later expansion organized the city into 108 Great Districts with further subdivisions beneath them. 182 323
  • Cultivators may rent cave mansions and courtyards or purchase permanent ownership. Purchased properties remain inheritable for as long as Dongxuan City exists. 182
  • After the Water Marsh Kingdom expansion, cave mansions, small courtyards, and large courtyards were planned in an approximate 7:2:1 ratio. 306

Transportation

  • Interconnected teleportation arrays linked Dongxuan City with neutral Nascent Soul-level city-states before the first public auction. 186
  • A realm gate at Wan Ling Mountain connects to Qingxuan Cave Heaven, allowing approved cultivators to transit toward the South Barbarian, West Wilderness, and North Li Domains. 532 534
  • Core members at Golden Core Realm or above may apply to use the realm gates for external training, subject to Contribution Point costs and approval. 534

Governance and Society

Dongxuan Edict

The Dongxuan Edict governs both mortal residents and cultivators. It was created after the Qingguang City migration to establish stable order, then erected on steles throughout the city. 183 184

  • The Guard Team enforces the Edict, and violations are subject to severe punishment. 188
  • Dongxuan Edict tokens grant authorized guards limited access to formation power. 188
  • The Law Enforcement Brigade includes recruited mortal personnel and is led by Xueyu. 184
  • Cultivators above the Golden Core Realm are monitored when entering the city. 192

Contribution Points

Dongxuan City uses Contribution Points to reward missions, labor, cultivation achievements, and service. 184 187

  • Residents and cultivators can exchange points for cultivation supplies. 187
  • Items on the internal exchange list cost 80% of their East Xuan Market price; higher positions provide additional discounts. 187
  • Azure Devil Realm resources can also be exchanged for Contribution Points. 545
  • The system is supported by a Tier 6 Combination Illusion Array and became a major source of opportunities for both mortal residents and cultivators. 187

Dongxuan Academy

Dongxuan Academy was founded to create a self-sustaining base of cultivators and Four Arts practitioners. 184

  • It teaches cultivation knowledge to children under twelve. 184
  • Students without spiritual roots leave at age twelve; those with spiritual roots remain and receive cultivation support. 184
  • After twelve years of training, cultivators are assigned to Dongxuan City’s departments at approximately age twenty-four. 184
  • Academy branches later spread across Xingluo State as part of the state-wide development reforms. 546 547

Defenses and Military Forces

City Guard Formation

Dongxuan City’s primary defense is its layered formation network, controlled from Wan Ling Mountain by Ye Qingxuan. 188 281

  • It killed Luo Jiutian, a Nascent Soul Mid Stage cultivator, after he violated the Dongxuan Edict at the East Gate. 189
  • The formation’s power deterred Xingze Jun, City Lord of Xingluo City, from entering into battle. 352
  • Its Seventh-tier Star Dou Great Formation ultimately expanded to encompass all of Xingluo State. 546

Dongxuan Guard Team

The Guard Team maintains public order, guards the city gates, patrols districts, and manages enforcement actions. 184 319

  • Xueyu, Jiang Wen, Li Mu, and Liu Feifeng served as the original principal commanders and personally guarded the four gates during the city’s reopening. 188 319
  • Jiang Yinyin later retains a commander position alongside the other four while also leading a Demon Hunting Army. 490
  • Commanders and designated officials can wield different levels of formation authority through their Dongxuan Edicts. 540

Demon Hunting Armies

Dongxuan City established the Demon Hunting Army to allow Nascent Soul Realm and higher core members to hunt the Azure Devil Race for Demon Hunting Points and resources. 465

  • Merged cities may retain autonomous Demon Hunting Armies under their former city lords. 462
  • Jiang Yinyin’s Demon Hunting Army successfully drove off Azure Devil Race attackers from Taian City. 487
  • The Taian Demon Hunting Army was formed after Taian City merged into Dongxuan City. 488

Economy

  • Dongxuan City’s market strategy emphasizes a broad range of cultivation goods at favorable prices, attracting cultivators from across Xingluo State. 280
  • The first East Xuan Auction was planned around Tier 5 Nuclear Explosion Pills, Nascent Soul Pills, Spirit Transmutation Pills, combat puppets, and flying ships, while excluding goods likely to provoke Tier 6 cultivators. 185
  • A later Tier 7 Auction offered items including Tier 7 talismans, Azure Devil Race corpses, and a Low-grade Spirit Treasure. 532
  • Treasure Pavilion declined to establish a branch after Ye Qingxuan demanded a ban on sales below Fourth Order and a 20% turnover tax. 192
  • By the city’s thirtieth year, average daily revenue had reached 100,000 High-grade Spirit Stones. 209

Key Affiliations and Relations

  • Ye Qingxuan — Founder, City Lord, chief formation controller, and ultimate authority over the city. 179 188
  • Qingguang City — Supplied Dongxuan City’s initial population through mass migration; it was later fully relocated and merged into Dongxuan City. 183 323
  • Xueyu — Guard commander and later Dongxuan Envoy; leads enforcement, carries out external missions, and receives authority over city formations. 184 540
  • Jiang Wen, Li Mu, and Liu Feifeng — Long-serving commanders responsible for city administration, expansion, transport, and military affairs. 185 306 490
  • Jiang Yinyin — Commander and Demon Hunter King whose army represents Dongxuan City’s military strength beyond its walls. 487 490
  • Treasure Pavilion — Commercial rival that later attempted to destroy Dongxuan City using the Shocking Heaven Bell. 280 290

  • East Extremity branch city — Destroyed by the Gui Sect, then rebuilt on the sect’s ruins using its refined Seventh-tier protective formation. 536 540

Branch Cities and External Reach

  • Ye Qingxuan established Extreme Heaven City and Luo Tian City, each equipped with a Sixth-grade Spirit Vein, top-grade Tier 6 City Guard Great Formation, Sixth-Rank puppets, and teleportation-array links to Dongxuan City. 355
  • Further cities in the South Barbarian, West Wilderness, and North Li Domains were named Nanxuan City, Xixuan City, and Beixuan City. 421
  • Dongxuan City later adopted a policy of establishing a branch city in each great province of the East Extremity Domain while allowing outer members to transfer outward for development. 532
  • Thousands of years later, the East Extremity branch cities were dismantled and their cultivators withdrew to the expanded Xingluo State. 743
