Story Role / Major Arcs
Collapse and early recovery
Class D entered May in near-total collapse after its Class Points fell to 1. Chabashira had intended to withhold key information for the first month before using the class’s failure to establish control, but Tennoji Kaede’s sale of partial information meant the students already feared expulsion—without understanding the full system. 17
The Yamauchi incident further divided the class along gender lines. Kushida’s return and her decision to forgive every classmate helped restore her influence, while Horikita’s study efforts strengthened her own faction among the boys. 26 29
Tian Shu Sha Exam
Class D’s first major comeback came through Tian Shu Sha. It won all three preliminary rooms for 90 Class Points, then gained another 30 through Ayanokōji’s Traitor victory in the leaders’ match. 32 34
Ryūen’s cooperation was not purely altruistic: he believed someone in Class D would uncover crucial hidden rules before Class A could, making Class D the more useful side to support. 61
Deserted Island Exam
Horikita was elected the class leader for the Deserted Island Exam. 48 During the exam, Class D endured a fire at its base camp caused by a malfunctioning water heater, briefly throwing the class into chaos. 56
The class ultimately defeated Class A after exploiting the leader-change rule. Class A did not understand that its identified leader could be replaced, allowing Class D to secure a decisive advantage. 61
VIP Exam and Class C’s contract
Class C forced Class D into a restrictive cooperation contract. Its terms required Class D to provide evidence of its VIPs, target Class B’s VIPs within a set period, seek Result 1 in all remaining groups, transfer its earned Private Points to Class C, and avoid disclosing the arrangement or entering other contracts. 80
Despite Horikita’s resentment toward the agreement, the contract gave Class D 100 Class Points and narrowed the gap with the higher-ranked classes. 81
Second semester changes
Kushida’s transfer to Class A reduced Class D to 38 students and removed one of its most capable social operators. 118
The class nevertheless remained competitive during the Sports Festival, placing second while suffering no Class Point loss. 129 It later placed third in the Paper Shuffle’s final academic rankings. 143
Inter-Class Relations
- Class C — Both rival and strategic partner. Class C assisted Class D during Tian Shu Sha and the Deserted Island Exam, then used superior VIP intelligence to impose a costly contract during the VIP Exam. 61 80
- Class A — A principal target during the Deserted Island Exam; Class D defeated it by capitalizing on the leader-change rule. 61
- Class B — Targeted under Class C’s VIP Exam contract, which required Class D to identify Class B’s VIPs. 80
Graduation
During the three-year epilogue, Class D served as the sacrificial position in Kaede’s “121” strategy, enabling the other three classes to use accumulated points to promote all students. 195
Ayanokōji later exchanged classes with Katsuragi, becoming one of the final major changes associated with the Original Class D. 196
