Background / History
Otherworld soul and childhood
Ye Mu states that the Asura God helped an otherworld Tang San enter the body born to Tang Hao and Ah Yin. He further argues that Tang Hao recognized the replacement because Tang San openly practiced unfamiliar Tang Sect techniques; Tang Hao’s awareness is presented as Ye Mu’s interpretation 21.
Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village, doing household work and cooking while receiving help from the villagers. The livestream discussion describes him performing chores at three years old. Despite Tang Hao’s attempt to prevent his Martial Soul awakening, he awakened both Blue Silver Grass and the Clear Sky Hammer 21 29.
Apprenticeship
At Nuoding Academy, Tang San became Yu Xiaogang’s disciple and studied under him for six years. By the time Ye Mu arrived, Tang San privately considered his teacher unreliable: his first ring hunt had nearly killed him, and he had financed outside help for his second. He nevertheless maintained outward respect for their teacher–student relationship 7.
Yu Xiaogang’s concrete contributions included knowledge of the Douluo Continent and the Twenty-Four Moonlit Bridges. Ye Mu and the livestream viewers also interpret the apprenticeship as Tang Hao’s attempt to obtain Bibi Dong’s successful Twin Martial Soul cultivation method through Yu Xiaogang 7 15 22.
Appearance
- Ordinary-looking face: Ye Mu recognizes him at Nuoding Academy largely because Xiao Wu stands beside him 5.
- Unawakened bloodline: Ah Yin says his appearance would change after awakening his Blue Silver Emperor bloodline; that transformation is not documented for the earlier-world Tang San 31.
- Purple eyes during technique use: A purple flash appears when he activates Purple Demon Eye in battle 10.
- Arena disguise: He and his teammates wear masks to avoid recognition in Suotuo City 148.
- Later-world clothing: Wears a long robe in his divine palace and the Sea God’s robe during his confrontation with the God of Destruction 245 417.
Personality
Tang San is observant and technically resourceful. He notices Ye Mu’s unusually large Soul Power reserves, questions Yu Xiaogang’s explanation, and combines several secret techniques to survive attacks his Martial Soul cannot stop. His successful fight against Dai Mubai also demonstrates tactical adaptability 7 10 39.
His attachment to Xiao Wu repeatedly overrides caution. He pursues the Titan Giant Ape alone after it takes her, expends his available Hidden Weapons against it, and later shields her from Spirit Hall despite facing overwhelming opposition 73 78 336 337.
His loyalty to Yu Xiaogang deteriorates into a calculation of usefulness. After his teacher is injured, Tang San sees no remaining benefit to his cultivation and decides to distance himself. His attitude toward Flender is less dismissive: gratitude for the dean’s kindness makes him postpone leaving Shrek despite its poor prospects 91 92 145.
The later-world Tang San places great importance on control. Losing sight of Douluo Planet makes him increasingly anxious, and his parents’ deaths drive him into fury. He can still recognize an unwinnable confrontation and retreat, but his frustration eventually leads him to shout at Xiao Wu when she asks about their daughter 245 417 445 448.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
- Blue Silver Grass: Produces vines for restraint, poison delivery, and parasitic attacks 10.
- Blue Silver Emperor heritage: Ye Mu identifies vitality and adaptability as its core strengths and advocates Life Attribute cultivation rather than poison-based control 3 4.
- Clear Sky Hammer: His second Martial Soul; Ye Mu describes its destructive nature as naturally complementary to the Blue Silver Emperor’s life aspect 3 222.
- Fusion potential: Ye Mu cites the pair as compatible enough for a Self Martial Soul Fusion Skill. The supplied passages do not show Tang San performing one 222.
- Cultivation risk: Improperly developing Twin Martial Souls can cause a Soul Master to explode, making a reliable cultivation method essential 22.
Blue Silver Grass Soul Skills
- Poisonous vines: His opening attack against Ye Mu spreads thick, dark-purple-tinged vines across the arena 10.
- Second Soul Skill — Parasite: Secretly establishes Blue Silver Grass on an opponent before activating it 10.
- Demonstrated limits: Ye Mu destroys the vine formation with Iron Hoof Stomp and breaks Parasite through a burst of Soul Power 10.
Mysterious Heaven Skill
- His personal cultivation method, originating from the otherworld Tang Sect rather than Yu Xiaogang 10 21.
- Allows cultivation before Martial Soul awakening, according to Ye Mu 21.
- Provides protective power, but fails to stop the force of Ye Mu’s ambush from knocking him unconscious 77.
Purple Demon Eye
- Enhances observation during combat; Tang San uses it to track Ye Mu’s spear trajectory 10.
- Works alongside his footwork and hand technique rather than replacing physical defense 10.
Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track
- Evasive footwork used to maneuver around Ye Mu’s attacks and move Xiao Wu clear of the Rose Hotel confrontation 10 40.
- Cannot compensate for the speed difference during Ye Mu’s forest ambush 77.
Mysterious Jade Hand
- Reinforces his hands for close combat, allowing him to strike Ye Mu’s spear shaft aside 10.
- Does not fully absorb Ye Mu’s force: the deflection leaves his hand trembling and painful 10.
Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon
- A Tang Sect manipulation technique demonstrated when he catches stew spilled by a waiter 64.
Hidden Weapons and Specialized Knowledge
- Practices Tang Sect Hidden Weapon techniques from childhood; their use requires specialized methods 22.
- Unleashes his available Hidden Weapons at the Titan Giant Ape, but they fail to injure or halt it 73.
- Ye Mu claims the strongest Hidden Weapons can kill gods if their user has also become a god; no such feat is shown here 22.
- Recognizes Immortal Herbs and knows how to use them, according to Ye Mu 104.
Divine Power — Later-World Counterpart
- Divine sense: Can attempt to observe Douluo Planet from the God Realm, but cannot penetrate the planet’s barrier 165 245.
- Shared Asura God Position: Part resides with Xiao Wu, an arrangement made to protect her that Ye Mu considers exploitable 445.
- Divine consciousness manipulation: Ye Mu states that he split Tang Wutong’s consciousness between Wang Dong’er and the Auspicious Beast 194.
- Godhood gatekeeping: The later-world narrative states that he once determined who on Douluo Planet could become a god 448.
- Artifact vulnerability: Ye Mu’s own Asura God power causes the Asura Demon Sword to abandon Tang San during their final battle 449.

- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher whom Tang San increasingly distrusts, eventually abandoning the relationship as unhelpful to his future 7 41 91 92.

Story Role / Major Arcs
Nuoding Academy Challenge
Ye Mu’s livestream first uses Tang San to expose the gap between exceptional talent and Yu Xiaogang’s guidance. During their duel, Ye Mu destroys his Blue Silver Grass attacks and ends the fight with a spear point at his throat. The defeat accelerates Tang San’s doubts about his teacher 3 4 10 11 19.
Shrek Academy and the Star Dou Forest
On the journey to Shrek, Tang San wins a confrontation with Dai Mubai at the Rose Hotel, then witnesses Ye Mu’s unexpectedly advanced ring configuration. He later joins Shrek, but his pursuit of a third ring is interrupted when Ye Mu knocks him unconscious and takes the Eight Spider Lances. Zhao Wuji and the students find him alive; Tang San remembers an ambush but cannot identify the attacker 39 41 64 76 77 78.
He subsequently distances himself from Yu Xiaogang and considers leaving Shrek because of its deteriorating condition and lack of a Soul Master Tournament quota. Out of gratitude to Flender, he chooses to wait several more months 92 145.
Spirit City Capture
After the tournament finals, Bibi Dong exposes Xiao Wu as a Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beast. Tang San shields her and threatens resistance, prompting Spirit Hall to order his capture as well. Tang Hao and Tang Xiao intervene, but Ye Mu defeats and kills Tang Hao while Tang San is restrained 336 337 338 339.
Tang San faints after witnessing the killing. Ye Mu seals his Soul Power channels and orders him sent to prison; his imprisonment later becomes common knowledge across the continent 340 354.
Later-World Control of Douluo Planet
The later world initially treats Tang San as a revered Shrek ancestor. Ye Mu’s revelations challenge that reputation by exposing his use of Wang Dong’er, his plans for Tang Hao as plane ruler, and Ah Yin’s placement inside the Golden Tree 170 194 218 410.
The planet’s barrier cuts off his divine observation. Chapter 448 identifies the barrier as a creation of Douluo Planet’s origin, intended to resist Tang San’s control and give Ye Mu time to grow 245 448.
Parents’ Deaths and Final Defeat
After Ye Mu’s allies kill the later-world Tang Hao and Ah Yin, Tang San senses their deaths and demands passage to Douluo Planet. The God of Destruction blocks him. Recognizing that his side cannot defeat the opposing gods, Tang San retreats 416 417.
When the barrier disappears, Ye Mu reaches the God Realm and confronts him. Tang San loses control of the Asura Demon Sword, is driven back despite wielding the Sea God Trident, and ends the battle wounded on his knees with Xiao Wu beside him. His companions have also been subdued 448 449.
