There are many similarities between Bai Jing's eyes and a black hole, but also differences.
For instance, a black hole's gravity gets stronger the closer you are and weaker the farther away, but Bai Jing's isn't like that.
He can control the gravity within a spherical range of 0.93 meters centered on his eyes.
Within this range, his gravity is at his beck and call, with no decay whatsoever, but outside the range, he has absolutely no perception of it.
It's a bit like a black hole's event horizon; within the event horizon, light absolutely cannot escape, while outside the event horizon, light is free.
Furthermore, Bai Jing doesn't need matter to enter the event horizon range for him to devour it; as long as it's within his gravitational range, he can devour it directly with a thought!
"Wait!" Just as he thought this, Bai Jing suddenly realized that the gravitational range he could currently control wasn't 0.93, but 0.9312!
Was it an illusion?
Bai Jing was a little surprised, but his gravity detection could be precise down to the nanometer level, making any detection error impossible.
Let alone 0.0012 meters, even 0.0001 meters would be as conspicuous as a mosquito on a monk's head in his line of sight!
"My gravitational field has actually grown a little!" Bai Jing recalled what he had eaten over the past two days.
The only way a black hole grows is by continuously absorbing matter or energy, and these past two days, aside from breathing in the wind and impurities within his body, he had only absorbed a mass of the Hulk's transformation energy!
Everything else was trivial; he absorbed it daily without seeing any change, so the only variable must be this mass of energy!
"This is a bit exaggerated, isn't it? Just a mass of energy, and it could grow this much?" The efficiency of energy converting to matter is extremely low, as everyone knows the mass-energy equivalence equation.
Nuclear bombs, with their terrifying energy release, are so small when they are in their material form.
And Bai Jing only swallowed that small amount of energy from the Hulk's body; it didn't feel like much, yet his gravitational range increased by 0.0012!
It could only be said that the nature of that energy was extremely high!
"That pocket universe is filled with such energy; what kind of place is that, a fairyland!" Bai Jing mused.
"Can I sit here?" a female voice came from beside him.
"Sorry, this seat is taken!" Bai Jing replied casually, then suddenly felt something was off. Was this person speaking Chinese?
He quickly turned his head and indeed saw an Asian girl with black hair, black eyes, long straight black hair, wearing a plain white top and jeans, looking at him curiously.
"From China??" Bai Jing asked.
"Yes, my name is Liu Na, from Sichuan, China," the girl said, extending her hand for a handshake.
Bai Jing didn't reach out but instead asked curiously, "How did you do it? Your skin is so smooth, the color looks so natural, and your Chinese is so good?"
"Huh?" Liu Na shook her head. "I... I don't think I understand what you're saying!"
"Natasha, stop messing around!" Bai Jing turned his head. "Are you that bored, constantly staring at me?"
The girl was silent for a moment, her expression slowly turning cold. After a short while, she sat down next to Bai Jing.
Bai Jing silently turned off 99% of his sense of smell. He didn't know what perfume Natasha was using; the scent was too strong!
"How did you figure it out?" Natasha asked.
"If we were both from China, would there be a need to add 'from China' when introducing ourselves? You could have just said you're from Sichuan!" Bai Jing said.
In reality, he had scanned Natasha last time and scanned her again just now.
Natasha frowned; she really hadn't noticed that.
"Is there something?" Bai Jing asked again.
"Someone wants me to ask what you're planning!" Natasha asked. "Are your people investigating the situation south of here?"
"Oh, so if the direct approach doesn't work, you're resorting to subtlety?" Bai Jing was surprised.
Could Kingpin actually get S.H.I.E.L.D. to act?
However, it might not be S.H.I.E.L.D. he hired, but Hydra.
"Don't push it too far. This is America. Besides, we didn't find any information about you in the immigration bureau, which means you're here illegally! If we wanted to, you could be deported at any time!" Natasha opened a book, pretending to read, but speaking in a low voice.
This was a library, after all.
"So why haven't you deported me?" Bai Jing asked. "You know my personality, you know what I do every day, you know what I eat for breakfast, you even know the color of my underwear, yet you haven't done it!"
"We welcome everyone who yearns for freedom to come to America!"
Natasha secretly thought, "But we don't know your abilities."
There are superpowered individuals, aliens, and superhumans strong enough to destroy a spaceship with one punch in this world; Hard-boiled Egg had known this for over ten years.
And according to their intelligence, this Bai Jing was such a superhuman.
Hard-boiled Egg had seen many people like him.
Naturally, he believed Bai Jing was one of them, in which case, he could recruit Bai Jing to his side!
He understood these East Asians very well, believing that if they were given a little benefit, they would become the most loyal enforcers, even more ruthless than Americans when facing their home country.
Of course, there were some people who couldn't be subdued no matter what and only thought of returning home.
The solution for such people was simple. The most famous example was dying from 21 shots to the back, ruled a suicide.
Bai Jing pretended not to understand Natasha's hint and continued reading his book.
To be fair, Kip Thorne's level is indeed high. He made a dry, profound popular science article so engaging and interesting that even someone like Bai Jing, who usually only reads web novels about power fantasies and the "Crooked Mouth Dragon King" genre, found himself engrossed.
He was much more interesting than the Russian Auntie next door, with her coarse pores and body odor.
Natasha didn't know what Bai Jing was thinking, or she wouldn't have been so at ease sitting here chatting with him.
"The Order Society can continue to exist, but it can only maintain its current size and cannot expand!" Natasha continued. "Our organization can recruit you, give you a US Green Card, and offer you the treatment of a Level 6 Agent to start. This is a treatment many of your kin can only dream of!"
"Did 'Hard-boiled Egg' recruit you with this same offer?" Bai Jing turned his head to look at Natasha.
Natasha couldn't discern anything from his gaze because Bai Jing's eyes were too deep, swallowing everything.
But she could feel a hint of mockery.
"When the pear blossoms bloom everywhere, and soft veils float on the river; Katyusha stands on the steep bank, her song like the bright spring sunshine.
Katyusha stands on the steep bank, her song like the bright spring sunshine.
The girl sings a beautiful song, she sings of the eagles of the grassland; she sings of her beloved, and she still hides her lover's letter.
She sings of her beloved, and she still hides her lover's letter."
Bai Jing closed the book, leaned back in his chair, and softly hummed a song.
He was humming in Chinese, but the melody was something she knew all too well.
This song was created in 1938. Two years later, during the Great Patriotic War, this song, with its deep emotion and the maiden's pure voice, warmed the soldiers holding cold weapons in frigid trenches.
In the grueling smoke and loneliness, their hearts found solace and comfort in love and affection. This song, much like "On the Songhua River," greatly boosted the morale of the people and soldiers who had suffered the trauma of war.
In 1942, amidst the ruins of Stalingrad, 14-year-old Natasha was dug out of a bombed-out house by her adoptive father. From then on, they depended on each other, living together, fighting together, and listening to this warm song together, full of hope for the future and tomorrow.
Back then, smoke filled the air and artillery roared, yet her heart had a place to rest.
But the war ended, and the person was gone, and the country was gone.
"Everyone has their own choices. You chose America, and I have no right to say anything to you. But I also have my own principles," Bai Jing said with a smile. "The Order Society must endure forever, and my steps to expand will not stop. If you want to stop me, you can try!"
"You're going to make an enemy of America!" Natasha shook her head. "You won't succeed! You have no idea how powerful they are!"
Surprisingly, Natasha didn't immediately get angry.
Perhaps it was the song, that face, those eyes, that had some effect.
"Difficult things are worth doing!" Bai Jing shook his head. He had foresight, and his "golden finger" was powerful. If he were to join S.H.I.E.L.D. now, what would be the difference between that and playing a game with cheats!
Besides, he had been a dog for a lifetime. This time, he wanted to live a different life.
Natasha sighed and suddenly leaned in close.
"Kingpin has hired the Brotherhood. If the Brotherhood fails, the Council, the Police Department, and the Tax Bureau will all intervene!"
She stood up, brushed her long hair, and added, "If you want to learn makeup, I can teach you!"
Without waiting for Bai Jing's reply, Natasha turned and left decisively.
