In the withered and decaying melon patch, Ge Xian held a fresh and tender Golden Spotted Dragon Liver, looking across at Yu Li, who had been angered to death.
He chuckled, then summarized his experience:
"It seems that some low-level cultivators in this world who are still in the [Dao Entry Realm] are not very bright due to their cultivation. They can be easily deceived with a little trickery."
"Of course, most are normal. As for powerhouses like Lu Hualong, Yelü Yuyan, and the River God of Qiantang River, they are cunning and venomous, so one must be careful when dealing with them."
"Hmm?"
As Ge Xian was muttering, he suddenly looked at his palm.
The dragon liver, which should have been "dead," was now squirming. Under Ge Xian's gaze, it split into tender flesh buds. Upon touching Ge Xian's palm, the tips of the buds began to secrete a corrosive, highly poisonous mucus, attempting to break through the Skin Sac and then burrow into it along with the entire dragon liver.
This sight was enough to scare an ordinary person to death.
Ge Xian was also startled, but he quickly understood, witnessing another secret of cultivation firsthand:
"Could it be that demons and cultivators above the [Mortal Transformation Realm] have such mutations in their flesh and blood? Even if the main body is dead, they still possess strong aggression and will seize any opportunity to parasitize and multiply?"
"Of course, it's also possible that only dragon demons are like this, and other races and demons might have different characteristics?"
As Ge Xian pondered, he first struck ruthlessly.
His Charm Talent activated, and the dragon liver immediately went berserk, with fine flesh buds erupting wildly, trying to swallow Ge Xian.
Unfortunately, it was the one encountering violent plunder.
Visibly, it withered, carbonized, and finally turned into a pile of ashes, scattering in the wind.
Inside Ge Xian, however, was another mass of incomparably pure Dao Qi, shaped like a blood bead, scarlet and potent. The Dragon Transformation Chapter, as if starving, circulated on its own, engulfing this demonic energy and refining it at full speed.
Subsequently, Ge Huolang's human body began to exhibit new, strange dragon-like phenomena.
In his perception, other benefits emerged:
"Both strength and magic power have increased by twenty percent."
"The dragon form is more complete, and the Dharma body is more than twice as robust."
"More importantly, the demonic art plundered this time is called [Thunder Fiend]. It can complement the [Centipede Venom] previously gifted by the Centipede Dragon. When cast together, there is a chance to produce powerful demonic art effects similar to Five Poisons Yin Thunder and Profound Nether Poison Fiend. Whether in frontal combat or sneak attacks, it can make cultivators of the same level suffer greatly."
"Even those in the Foundation Establishment Realm would suffer a loss if they were not careful for a moment."
"Tsk tsk, my dragon form is becoming less and less like a good person."
"But I like it. This kind of skill is best used for sneak attacks; frontal combat is not as beautiful."
Sensing this, Ge Xian thought he had already gained enough benefits.
But soon, a look of joy reappeared on his face, and he couldn't help but exclaim, "Extend lifespan by ten years?"
Honestly, the many rare items and demonic beasts he had previously absorbed and plundered had all given him some lifespan, but collectively, none gave as much as a dragon liver.
One must know that lifespan is linked to the soul's essence and blood, similar to cultivation and magical power. The stronger Ge Xian became, the more difficult it would be to increase it.
For instance, if he were to eat another dragon liver now, it certainly wouldn't have such a good effect.
"As expected of dragon liver, a delicacy rumored to be loved by Immortal Gods."
"I wonder what [Phoenix Marrow] tastes like?"
Ge Xian, while sensing his gains, reconfirmed that his hoarding vice hadn't grown wildly, only by an imperceptible trace.
As for the second vice, there was none at all.
As he spoke, he had already reached the corpse of the melon planter, Yu Li.
Not minding the ugly man's filth, he squatted down and happily looted the corpse.
To his surprise, the ugly melon farmer was quite poor. Apart from a copy of the Melon Cultivation Art, he couldn't find any other wealth or treasures.
The wrought iron fork beside him, though a fine weapon, wasn't anything special. Ge Xian doubted if it could even penetrate his defenses if he revealed his "Dragon Form"; it was unlikely.
However, when Ge Xian opened the demonic technique scroll and flipped through a few pages, his expression immediately turned serious.
Seeing his suddenly ignited strong desire for knowledge, it was clear that if the location and timing were right, he would have loved to sit down and study it diligently.
"When I first heard of the Melon Cultivation Art, I thought it was just a small booklet invented by some unknown Evil Cultivator."
"Now it seems it has quite an origin."
"During the Jin Dynasty, in the Jinhua region, there was a melon farmer surnamed Zhong. One day, he chanced upon an immortal who called himself [Chi Songzi], whose common name was Huang Chuping. The immortal drank a melon of his to quench his thirst. While chatting, he taught the melon farmer some knowledge about how Immortals and Gods cultivate spiritual herbs."
"As he was a mortal, the melon farmer fell into a deep sleep for three days after listening. Upon waking, he hastily grabbed a brush and wrote down the Melon Cultivation Art based on his memory and understanding. He died immediately after finishing it. The Zhong Clan, however, prospered because of this. But after several generations, they gradually declined, and this booklet eventually fell into the mortal world, ultimately being obtained by Yu Li."
"He couldn't cultivate other 'Immortal Melons.' He somehow obtained a dragon liver and successfully cultivated a Dragon Blood Melon, even though this fellow didn't strictly follow the wonderful technique."
"Obtain a set of dragon liver and phoenix marrow, supplement with the blood of a hundred birds, use human blood as a guide, and plant the fruit in a place exposed to scorching sun. Water it every nine days. After the fruits grow, keep only one, and crush the rest into fertilizer. After seventy-seven, forty-nine days, one can obtain an Immortal Melon. Eating it can make the physical body immortal, incorruptible, and extend lifespan."
"Hiss!"
"This is hardly a melon cultivation technique; it's clearly a Collection of Immortal Elixir Recipes."
Ge Xian was already somewhat excited at this point, thinking he had stumbled upon a fortuitous encounter. But soon, he saw that behind this enticing elixir recipe, there were clearly annotations from successive melon planters.
Starting from the Zhong clan of the Jin Dynasty, perhaps written by an ancestor, the commentary was relatively polite, stating only the facts: the melon's spiritual efficacy was greatly exaggerated. After eating the finished melon, cutting off a limb would indeed not cause death, but all four limbs would still result in death. It would remain uncorrupted for a year in the earth, but would still decay the following year. Lifespan was extended by over ten years, but during those ten years, vices would constantly arise, causing immense suffering.
From then on, the evaluations and annotations from the successive holders became more vicious:
"Immortal and incorruptible, extending life half true and half false, with many vicious habits, not to be trusted lightly."
"This melon seed should not be planted. It offends the Dragon and Phoenix clans, yet the harvest is not abundant. Whoever wrote the melon recipe either harbors ulterior motives or is a foolish madman."
"Nonsense! If I had Dragon Liver and Phoenix Marrow, wouldn't I eat it myself? Why would I use it to plant melons?"
"Perhaps the ancestor of the Zhong clan was of a split mind, speaking such nonsense. He claimed to have discovered a pill recipe himself, falsely calling it a melon-planting technique. What's more, he shamelessly attributed it to the senior Chi Songzi. One must know that senior Chi Songzi ascended to the Dao. How could he have had time to eat his watermelons? The reason for his demise was likely eating the wrong melon."
"The Zhong clan is so stupid, they deserve to be melon farmers for generations."
"The seniors before were too harsh. Although the pill recipe is fake, the melon is good. Following the technique to plant it, the taste is sweet."
"The melon is excellent, delicious and sells well. Yu Li has already grown it. Which family within a hundred miles doesn't praise my Dragon Blood Melon for being well-grown?"
Clearly, that ugly man Yu Li had also joined the fun, scribbling a line of commentary crookedly in the gap.
When Ge Xian saw this, far from being dampened, his interest grew even stronger.
He was not only curious about the strange pill recipes disguised as melon-planting techniques but also fascinated by the annotations of these "past holders." He wished he could study them all night.
However, he couldn't linger in the valley for too long, lest it invite disaster.
So, he put away the booklet, revealed his strong, imposing, yet mysteriously dangerous half-human, half-dragon demon body, grabbed the peddler's pole, and fled down the mountain.
Just before leaving the secluded valley, he turned his head and unleashed the "Thunder Fiend" technique upon the filthy, poison-filled Dragon Blood Valley.
The next instant, the sun was clearly blazing in the sky.
Yet, a sudden thunderous roar erupted from Tianzhu Mountain. Then, a ball of pitch-black lightning, about the size of a winnowing basket, carrying streaks of electric snakes, smashed down into the valley.
Upon colliding with the already dense Centipede Dragon poisonous mist, it unexpectedly caused a violent explosion.
Over a dozen Nether Lightning Snakes, several dozen feet long, materialized out of nowhere and darted through the valley, turning everything they touched into powder.
In the blink of an eye, this filthy place was utterly destroyed.
About half an hour later, many lower-level demons and evil cultivator sects, who had received the news, rushed over. In the end, they could only see a pile of ruins.
Fortunately, demons and evil cultivators always possessed various strange abilities. After investigating the clues, they quickly identified the culprit. It was likely a dragon demon, or a cultivator who had practiced a Dragon Clan Secret Technique and had reached at least the Foundation Establishment Realm.
Once this conclusion was reached, all the cultivators and demons immediately lost interest in avenging Yu Li.
He was merely a melon farmer!
If he died, he died.
It wasn't worth offending a powerful dragon demon for him. Besides, he deserved it. Who told him to grow Dragon Blood Melons? Perhaps he had suffered retaliation from the Dragon clan.
That branch of the Dragon clan in the Qiantang River was quite suspicious, especially since their leader, "River God," was rumored to be extremely greedy and capricious. Perhaps he had eaten Yu Li's melon and found it unripe and not sweet, so he sent a poisonous dragon to assassinate Yu Li and destroy the melon field.
For the first day or two, the Jade Pig Dragon, Centipede Dragon, Dragon Blood Melon farmers, and others were attacked. Aside from the immediate neighbors, not many people paid it any mind.
But soon, after the [Dragon Earthworm] in the great marsh thirty li outside Anle Town was inexplicably killed, the demonic and evil cultivators within a radius of several hundred li around Qiantang County finally reacted.
After an in-depth investigation, sharing information, and finding some rather obvious clues, they all reached a shocking conclusion:
Within a radius of dozens to a hundred li around Qiantang County, a fierce dragon, or a powerful cultivator who practiced the Dragon Clan Secret Technique, had appeared. This entity specialized in hunting those connected to the "Dragon Clan."
In just a few days, the number of victims was enormous.
Furthermore, the perpetrator's methods were extremely brutal, leaving no survivors.
One must understand that the "Dragon Earthworm" not only possessed a formidable demon body and fierce magical power but also had innate earth evasion demonic arts. Ordinary Foundation Establishment Realm existences couldn't kill it.
Yet, the demons who had remotely observed the battle in the great marsh that day said that after a single round of combat with the perpetrator, the Dragon Earthworm was no match. It had clearly burrowed into the ground to escape, but in the next moment, inexplicably, as if possessed, it shot back out. It was clearly actively seeking death, which was extremely bizarre.
A powerful demon, both strong and possessing bizarre methods, was wreaking havoc.
For a time!
The low-level demons and evil cultivators in this region began to feel endangered.
Anyone even slightly connected to the Dragon Clan was desperately trying to figure out how to save themselves.
Some without backing or connections simply chose to relocate.
Just like now!
Outside Qiantang County, on a mountain connected to Phoenix Mountain, there was a place called Jade Emperor Mountain.
There were also many demons and evil cultivators on the mountain.
Among them, a family of about twenty to thirty Ape Ghosts, and five evil cultivators known as "Mountain Monks," were somewhat well-known.
The five of them were originally human, hunters from the foot of the mountain. Later, they jointly obtained a bizarre martial art called the Three Corpses Brain Buddha Scripture. After cultivating it, they all transformed into ferocious, green-faced, tusked, dark, and stout monks. They wore black robes, exposed their heads, and often descended the mountain to pillage, enjoying eating the brains of living people.
Today, these five evil monks were each sitting in a hole in a mountainside, chanting scriptures. Suddenly, they were all woken up by the Ape Ghosts, who were shouting about moving.
"Monks, wake up quickly, disaster has struck."
"A fierce dragon has appeared in this region, and it's extremely brutal. Yu Li, the melon farmer from Tianzhu Mountain, the Dragon Earthworm from the great marsh, the Jade Pig Dragon from the Graveyard, and the father and son Centipede Dragons from Phoenix Mountain... all died by his hand."
"Who's to say it isn't true? I heard the latest victim was Grandmother Flood Dragon from Yellow Rainbow Mountain Stronghold. It's a pity this old flood dragon lived for two hundred years. She didn't dare to show herself before, but now, taking advantage of the chaotic world, she recognized dozens of mountain bandits as her god-grandsons, thinking she could be supported by them. Who knew that not long ago, that demonic dragon broke into the bandits' lair and, with a single strike of yin thunder poison evil, annihilated them all."
"How vicious!"
"But what does this have to do with us? It sounds like only fellow Daoists connected to the Dragon Clan are suffering. We five, we cultivate Buddhism and chant scriptures..."
"You monks have been chanting so much you've gone mad. Don't you remember Jade Emperor Mountain's other name?"
"Dragon... Dragon Mountain?"
"That can't be. It's just a name. There are no dragons in this mountain."
"Better safe than sorry. What if that Evil Dragon finishes its slaughter and decides to settle here?"
"My Ape Ghost tribe has decided to move to Yin Gui Mountain, eighty li away. I hear the Yin Mountain Ghost Clan appears there, and they might take us in."
"Hey, wait. The monks should also lie low for a while."
These terrifying tales weren't just circulating in the Wilderness; they had frightened many Demonic Evil Cultivators.
Gradually, the stories spread into Qiantang County, even reaching the streets and alleys. Some Townsmen and Jianghu Guests who were passionate about tales of Demonic Immortal Gods heard the related rumors.
Similarly, the Orthodox Cultivation World, which held sway in the County City, took notice.
For example, Yelü Yuyan.
Ge Xian's previous guess was correct. This County Magistrate's Wife was indeed split-minded and abnormal.
The Ugly Dragon Girl attacking a Fox Whore and escaping was clearly a minor incident.
Yet, Yelü Yuyan couldn't forget it. Whenever she had free time, she would ponder how to capture the Dragon Girl and torment her in every way possible.
Even after the Dragon Bone Flute failed, she remained unwilling to give up.
Upon hearing of this recent incident, driven by the insane notion of "better to kill a thousand by mistake than let one go," she immediately wanted to capture this rampaging "Evil Dragon" to see if it was the Dragon Girl, or if it had any connection to her.
Fortunately, she still had some sense. Before acting, she sent a Fox Ghost to inquire in the Qiantang River whether the Dragon Demon rampaging outside the county had any connection to the Dragon Clan of the Qiantang River.
Soon, a reply came: No connection. However, since it was still a dragon, if the County Magistrate's Wife captured it, she could send it to the Dragon Palace at the bottom of the Qiantang River after tormenting it, in exchange for some treasures.
Yelü Yuyan tore the letter to shreds and immediately began plotting how to capture the dragon.
ps: Almost forgot a disclaimer: Fatty Fish often makes things up when writing books. Please do not apply it to real history, such as when watermelons were introduced. This is another world, and the same applies to other details. Thank you for your understanding.
