Background
Jericho Swain was born into the Swain family, a Noxian noble line that had supported the Empire for generations. His parents investigated the burning Demon Eye in the lower levels of the Immortal Fortress and became involved in a secret society opposed to Emperor Boram Darkwill. Swain personally executed them for suspected treason, unaware at the time that the Pale Lady was the true force behind their conspiracy. 81 82
By the Ionian campaign, Swain had earned high prestige through repeated military successes and was regarded as an exceptional strategist. He recognized the Black Rose's influence over Darkwill and warned the emperor, causing LeBlanc to regard him as a threat. She ordered Du Kuor to arrange for Swain to die in Ionia. 44 70
Swain was deliberately isolated at the Presidian: his forces were repeatedly divided to search for a nonexistent Artifact of Eternal Life, while reports of reinforcements were falsified. When Irelia's Resistance freed his hostages and assaulted the Presidian, he realized too late that Du Kuor and his adjutant had abandoned him. 75 79
During his defeat by Irelia, Swain lost his left arm and suffered a shattered right kneecap. Raum's crow showed him the truth of Darkwill's puppet status and the hidden threat beneath the Immortal Fortress, reigniting his will to live. Ato rescued him from execution and used Blood Qi to stabilize his injuries. 80 81 82 84
After returning to Noxus, Swain was stripped of his military rank but retained his noble title, giving him access to the Immortal Fortress's lower archives. He studied Raum and Sion, recruited Draven and Du Couteau's support, merged with Raum, and led the coup that removed Darkwill. He subsequently became Noxus's Grand General. 92 95 100 119 123
Appearance
Before his injury, Swain is a broad, powerfully built man with salt-and-pepper hair, hawk-like eyes, and a stern, composed bearing. He wears a simple coat over armor when appearing in court. 44 79
- Lost his left arm during the Battle of the Presidian. 80
- His right leg was crippled after his kneecap was shattered; he initially relies on a cane. 84 90
- Commonly uses a black robe and mask while concealing his survival after Ionia. 83
- Raum can manifest from his empty sleeve as a dark-red demonic claw. 119
- In demonic form, he manifests large crow wings and purple light flashes through his eyes. 119
Personality
Swain is calculating, perceptive, and intensely devoted to Noxus rather than to any individual ruler. Even before learning Darkwill was a puppet, he obeyed orders he considered strategically wasteful because he believed loyalty to the Empire required it. 70
He remains composed under humiliation and loss. When Darkwill strips him of military status, Swain shows neither anger nor panic, treating the demotion as a temporary obstacle while pursuing the larger objective of removing the Black Rose's control. 92
Although ruthless in war, Swain seeks to minimize unnecessary Noxian casualties. During coup preparations, he insists that Darkwill is the only person who must die and views ordinary soldiers as people merely following orders. 117
Abilities & Skills
Strategic Command
Swain is regarded as Noxus's foremost strategist and combines battlefield planning with political calculation.
- Identifies that his adjutant is reporting to Du Kuor and recognizes the danger of dispersing his legion. 70 75
- Uses captured Presidian civilians and an Amplifier to deter the Ionian militia without initiating an attack. 75 76
- Anticipates LeBlanc's attempt to label him a deserter and engineers a public return alongside wounded soldiers to prevent a secret arrest. 86 90
- Organizes alliances with Draven, Du Couteau, and later Ato's allies to overthrow Darkwill. 95 115 117
- Plans the construction of New Immortal Fortress to evacuate five million citizens from the threat beneath the original city. 234
Close-Quarters Combat
Swain is an experienced frontline soldier, not merely a commander.
- Fights personally at the Presidian after realizing his force has been betrayed. 79
- Uses a longsword, physical strength, and heavy armor to pressure Irelia in close range. 80
- His strength is great enough to overpower Irelia physically when he closes the distance, though her flying blades exploit his lack of range. 80
- Suffers permanent injuries after Irelia's awakened blades sever his arm. 80

Swain's pact with Raum grants him demonic abilities at the cost of constant whispers and physical strain.
