"This is called a Senzu Bean. An ordinary person can eat one and not feel hungry for ten days. With your appetite, even if one bean cannot last ten days, it should keep hunger away for a day or two without much problem. Later, I'll have Mr. Popo fetch some for you," Kami Piccolo explained.
At this time, he had yet to realize that these would become strategic resources in the future.
After all, Senzu Beans were not especially useful in the early days. There were so many that they were stored in vats, and even as snacks, they were considered too filling.
Since Kami Piccolo had said so, Kairos had to play along.
That way, he would not have to think of a way to deliberately obtain Senzu Beans himself.
"They're that amazing?! Then please bring up more of them. Sorry to trouble you, Mr. Popo," Kairos said with a touch of excitement.
"It's no trouble. Once Mr. Popo finishes cleaning this place up, he'll go down and fetch the Senzu Beans," Mr. Popo said.
"Mm." Kairos nodded and said nothing more.
A polite remark or two was enough. Saying too much would only make it seem overly affected and insincere.
To avoid disturbing Mr. Popo as he cleaned up the mess, Kairos promptly left the dining table so he could finish sooner.
Taking this opportunity, Kami Piccolo asked him for more information about Planet Namek and the Namekians.
Kairos answered all of his questions, telling him where Planet Namek currently was and what its situation was like.
Although Kairos had never been there, he knew the original story well. Moreover, the Frieza Force's system database did indeed contain information on the Namekians.
Frankly speaking, if the Dragon Balls had not truly existed and their wish-granting power had not been real, Planet Namek would never have suffered Frieza's invasion.
After all, Planet Namek's resources had been depleted. It had no mining value and had always been considered a barren planet.
So that Kami Piccolo could better experience what his homeland was like, Kairos took out the Spaceship again and let him see Planet Namek's environment through holographic images, as well as members of his own race.
Even if the images were merely simulated by the system, Kami Piccolo was satisfied.
"Do you really not want to pilot the Spaceship back to your homeland for a look?" Kairos asked.
Kami Piccolo let out a long sigh.
"Ever since I became Guardian of Earth, I have been destined never to leave Earth. At my age, I have come to terms with many things. Now that I know I am a Namekian and have seen what my homeland looks like, that is enough..."
His voice trailed off, full of sorrow.
Had it been a hundred years earlier, when he was still in his prime, perhaps he would have been impulsive enough to return to his homeland.
Now, he was old.
Kairos watched Kami Piccolo and roughly sensed the loneliness in his heart. "Is it possible that it is not that you cannot leave Earth because you are Guardian of Earth, but that you have shackled yourself? Even if you left for a while, there would not be any effect."
The reason he said this was that he had reached this conclusion based on the original story's setting.
Since Kami Piccolo had brought it up, Kairos decided to say it and overturn his fixed way of thinking.
If the Guardian of Earth truly could not leave Earth and his fate were completely bound to the planet, then the original story would not have included a plot where the Guardian of Earth could leave.
Kami Piccolo froze at his words.
He stared at Kairos with those aged eyes, unable to think of an answer for a moment.
Previously, he had regarded Kairos as a mature child. But Kairos's words had taught him much.
Indeed, there was no explicit rule saying that the Guardian of Earth had to remain on Earth at all times.
He did not even know when that idea had begun to take root. It was as though he had placed pressure on himself, believing that as Guardian of Earth, he ought to remain at Kami's Lookout and go nowhere else.
"There are some things I cannot say too much about, since they concern you. But if you want to go in the future, I can give you a ride. After all, I really will be making a trip to your homeland."
"My homeland?"
Kairos's words stunned Kami Piccolo again.
"That's right. I need to use Planet Namek's Dragon Balls to make a wish. Also, as far as I know, the Grand Elder of Namek possesses an ability to unlock others' potential. I need his help to increase my strength." Kairos nodded and spoke frankly.
This was not something he needed to hide. Telling the truth was more sincere instead.
"I see. You want to use the Grand Elder's power to grow stronger, then go back and take revenge?" That was all Kami Piccolo could think of.
After all, everyone pursued power for a reason.
Kairos had arrived as a fugitive, so he must have had plans.
Yet Kairos shook his head at Kami Piccolo's question.
That only made Kami Piccolo more curious about what Kairos sought.
"My goal is simple. I need strength great enough to deal with every crisis that may come in the future!!
"This world is one where the strong prey on the weak. You cannot comprehend the cruelty of the universe.
"At the level of beings like me, Planet-Destroying power is commonplace. A planet like Earth could be destroyed with a mere wave of a hand..."
Kairos was giving Kami Piccolo an early warning.
Clearly, Kami Piccolo had been frightened by Kairos's words.
Destroying a planet with a casual gesture was already beyond the limits of his understanding.
"Then just how powerful are those beings? Even you, who can destroy planets with a wave of your hand, are no match for them and could only flee."
Kairos did not hesitate before answering, "To put it in terms you can clearly understand, your current power level is 220. At that level, you are already invincible on Earth, but in the Frieza Force, you could only serve as the most ordinary logistics soldier! As for my power level, it is infinitely close to four million!"
"Four million?! The gap is actually that enormous?"
Kami Piccolo opened his mouth. How could he not understand how vast the difference between those two figures was?
"You need not be so surprised by my strength, because every one of those people known as Galactic Emperors has a power level of at least over one hundred million!"
"Over one hundred million? Hiss~~~!!!"
Kami Piccolo drew in a sharp breath, sweat already soaking through his clothes.
He could not help imagining it. If Earth were about to face enemies like that, forget resisting them—even whether its people could barely survive and continue their race would be a question.
"So now you understand why I want to become stronger, right? I must grow stronger for crises that may come in the future. If I wait until the crisis arrives before thinking about getting stronger, it will be too late." Looking directly into Kami Piccolo's eyes, Kairos continued.
