"Hm? One, two, three... six people in total. The strongest fighters on this planet have all gathered here. Perfect. I can wipe them out in one go and save myself the trouble."
Nappa looked down from above at Piccolo and the others standing in the wilderness below and burst into laughter. Beside him, Vegeta tapped his scouter and swept his gaze over them, then merely gave a disdainful smile. The two of them slowly descended.
They looked down on Krillin and the others, who showed no sign of nervousness, apart from Son Gohan.
"That guy's appearance... He looks like a Namekian."
Vegeta caught sight of Piccolo up close and suddenly found him familiar. He murmured thoughtfully.
"Hey, you lot had better know what's good for you and hand over the Dragon Balls. Then I can make your deaths quick."
Nappa didn't wait for Vegeta to speak. He stepped forward, his massive frame radiating pressure, and spoke in a threatening tone.
"Hmph. You want the Dragon Balls? You're not strong enough to take them."
Piccolo gave a scornful laugh and replied.
"Oh? You've got quite a mouth on you. Come to think of it, I don't see that fellow Kakarot anywhere. Did he run away?"
Nappa wasn't angered by the remark. As far as he was concerned, they had to approach this trip to Earth with a clear head and avoid causing trouble because of their personal feelings. After all, this was about the chance to live forever. Even he, hotheaded as he was, understood how important that was. Especially after Vegeta had warned him once—he wasn't about to destroy things at the slightest provocation.
"Dad didn't run away! He'll definitely beat you guys!"
Son Gohan immediately shouted in protest.
"Is that so? Hahahaha! How ridiculous. What could a Low-Class Warrior possibly accomplish?"
Nappa burst into laughter. Vegeta merely chuckled off to the side, looking unconcerned. As far as he was concerned, Nappa was enough to deal with these people. There was no need for him to get involved.
Son Gohan clenched his fists, glaring angrily at Nappa. Piccolo and the others, meanwhile, watched Nappa without changing their expressions.
"By the way, Vegeta, should we let the Saibamen have a go at them?"
Nappa suddenly remembered something and turned to ask Vegeta.
"Don't waste time on something so pointless. The Saibamen aren't as strong as they are. Even if we send a lot of them, they might only wear down one or two people. That's a waste of resources. You might as well fight them yourself, beat them up, and find out where the Dragon Balls are."
Vegeta considered it for a moment before answering.
"True enough. Fine, I'll deal with you myself. Come at me together. I'll teach you a lesson."
Nappa strode forward a few more steps, brimming with arrogance, and spoke.
"What an arrogant bastard!"
Yamcha spat in disgust and said.
"Good. The more arrogant they are, the faster they die!"
Piccolo sneered. Krillin, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu nodded in agreement. Son Gohan watched the situation nervously, trying his best to stay calm. But the battle was about to begin, and Piccolo couldn't afford to look after him. He would have to rely on himself.
Vegeta simply went over to a nearby rock, sat down, and watched with an impassive expression.
"Take this!"
"Spirit Ball!"
"Tri-Beam!"
Tien Shinhan and Yamcha were the first to attack. They launched their signature techniques at Nappa at the same time.
"What?!"
Nappa looked at the approaching Spirit Ball with disdain. It was so slow that he couldn't imagine it hitting anyone. He merely leaned a little to the left and dodged it. But when Tien Shinhan's Tri-Beam came at him right after, Nappa was stunned.
Although the Tri-Beam wasn't as powerful as it had been against Cell, it still had enough force to hurt Nappa at that point.
Nappa felt as if something had struck him like a hammer. His massive body was sent stumbling backward dozens of meters.
Just as Nappa was about to speak, Vegeta's haughty voice rang out.
"Idiot! Where are you looking? Watch your back!"
Nappa was startled. He turned around and saw that the energy attack he had dodged earlier was flying toward him again. He immediately pushed off with both feet and leaped into the air.
"Hmph... I won't let you dodge so easily!"
Yamcha gave a faint, cold smile, then brought his index and middle fingers together and flicked them. The energy ball shot straight toward Nappa's chest in midair. The sudden change in its course startled Nappa, but he couldn't get out of the way in time.
"Boom!!"
An explosion rang out in the air, and a dark cloud of smoke appeared, blocking everyone's view.
Piccolo and the others watched without changing their expressions. They knew very well that an attack like that couldn't kill their opponent. This had only been a test—a first step in their plan to murder him. No, their battle plan...
Vegeta watched Nappa get hit, looking faintly displeased and embarrassed on his behalf. A Saiyan getting caught by a technique like that was disgraceful. That was what he thought.
"Tch... You lot are pretty good at making your shots curve!"
Nappa suddenly burst out of the smoke, shouting angrily. The armor on his chest was shattered, leaving a round hole that exposed his abdominal muscles, which were slightly blackened. He was furious that his armor had been damaged right at the start. What a disgrace—especially when his opponents were so much weaker than he was.
"He's coming!"
Piccolo tensed and shouted a warning. The others all became alert. Nappa charged straight at them, his massive body moving surprisingly fast.
Piccolo and the others each raised their energy slightly, then scattered.
"These guys can raise their battle power!"
Vegeta, watching from the side, narrowed his eyes. He had suddenly noticed the numbers on his scouter changing dramatically. More precisely, they had risen.
"How is that possible? The weakest of them has a battle power of 2,000... The others are around 3,000. And that Namekian's battle power is as high as 4,000. No wonder that useless Raditz died here. The information on this planet really was wrong, just as Nappa said!"
Vegeta watched the fight, his expression shifting. Then he muttered to himself.
(I figure Son Goku probably won't show up until around chapter 50. As for the next chapter... someone will die. Who do you think it'll be? Heh...)
