Background

Cell was developed by Dr. Gero and Dr. Lychee using the cells of Son Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, and other fighters. The scientists attempted to add Betkas’s cells as “Codename d0,” but their violent power nearly destroyed the embryo; Cell required restoration to his earlier state instead. 97

He awakened before his creators expected, driven by hatred and an intense desire to fight. Rather than immediately travel to Earth, he sought stronger opponents and allowed Hatchiyack to repeatedly maim him so he could recover and increase his strength. 104 106
