Background and History
Shrek Academy and the Suotuo Arena
Tang San entered Shrek Academy alongside Xiao Wu and developed a reputation for protecting her fiercely. When Jiang Yi severely injured Xiao Wu at the Suotuo Great Soul Arena, Tang San immediately challenged him despite the disparity in strength. Jiang Yi overwhelmed him, then used mental suggestion to leave him with fear and humiliation. 14 15
After obtaining his third spirit ring from a 1,600-year Lone Bamboo, Tang San became a Soul Elder and sought a rematch. Encouraged by Yu Xiaogang, he believed his strengthened Blue Silver Grass would secure victory; Jiang Yi instead shattered his vines, evaded his hidden weapons, and defeated him again. Tang San was poisoned by his own rebounding weapons during the loss. 26 28 30
The change to his third ring also cost him the Man Faced Demon Spider spirit ring and the Eight Spider Lances external soul bone that Jiang Yi considered central to Tang San's original fate. 29
Thousand Hand Asura
After Jiang Yi left Suotuo City, Tang San became one of the Arena Champions under the masked identity Thousand Hand Asura. His combination of Blue Silver Grass, poisons, hidden weapons, footwork, and throwing techniques allowed him to dominate opponents of similar rank. 102
He successfully defended his title against Soul Elders and eventually defeated the Level 41 Soul Ancestor Tie Xiong. Against Tie Xiong's overwhelming physical strength, Tang San relied on Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, Mysterious Jade Hand, Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon, crossbow bolts, Bone-Piercing Nails, and poison smoke. 141 142
Conflict with Jiang Yi
Tang San was mentally controlled by Jiang Yi during a team battle, causing him to injure his own Shrek teammates with poisoned hidden weapons. The incident left the team fearful and strained their relationships despite his apology. 144 153
He joined Heaven Dou Royal Academy with Shrek partly to enter the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament and seek another opportunity to kill Jiang Yi, whom he associated with the Silver Masked Man. 146 154
During the tournament, Tang San revealed the Clear Sky Hammer to overcome Blazing Fire Academy after his Blue Silver Grass proved ineffective against their flames. The reveal attracted the attention of Martial Soul Hall's Platinum Bishop Salas. 163
Secret Cultivation and Tournament Defeat
Frustrated by the limitations of Blue Silver Grass, Tang San secretly began cultivating his second martial soul despite Yu Xiaogang's and Tang Hao's warnings about the dangers of prematurely developing Twin Martial Souls. 159 160
After surviving Shi Nian's illusion and assassination attempt, Tang San fused a spirit-attribute head soul bone given by Tang Hao. The bone enhanced his spiritual power and Purple Demon Eye, helping him reach Level 36. 160 161
Tang San later used the Shrek team's Seven-in-One Fusion Skill, channeling the spirit power of six teammates into his Clear Sky Hammer. The technique won Shrek's match but severely damaged his meridians and muscles. 221 222
Determined to face Jiang Yi in the finals, Tang San secretly attached two thousand-year spirit rings to the Clear Sky Hammer and advanced to Soul Ancestor. Though the hammer greatly increased his power, his spirit power became unstable and his body suffered severe strain. 222 224 230
His subsequent duel with Jiang Yi ended in another decisive defeat. Jiang Yi broke Blue Silver Prison with raw force, withstood Tang San's strengthened Clear Sky Hammer, and left Tang San with a dislocated arm, fractures, and serious internal injuries. 229 230
Training Under Tang Hao
Following his recovery, Tang San left Shrek Academy with Tang Hao for secluded training. Over the next year and a half, he trained beneath waterfalls, performed weighted-water exercises, and practiced the Clear Sky Sect's hammer techniques. 237 242
By this point, Tang San's physical condition had improved dramatically, his temperament had become steadier, and his Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer had reached sixty-four consecutive strikes. Tang Hao set Level 50 and eighty-one strikes as the conditions for completing this stage of training. 242
Personality
Tang San is intensely protective of Xiao Wu and reacts violently when he believes she has been harmed. His anger toward Jiang Yi repeatedly drives him into direct confrontations despite previous defeats. 14 28 146
He is proud of his Tang Sect techniques and hidden weapons, viewing them as the foundation of his combat ability. Repeated failures against Jiang Yi, however, leave him deeply humiliated and doubtful of the worth of Blue Silver Grass. 145 159
Tang San is also highly persistent. He refuses to abandon difficult matches, takes dangerous shortcuts to gain strength, and endures severe physical consequences in pursuit of defeating Jiang Yi. His later training with Tang Hao gradually makes him less impatient and more composed. 222 224 242
Abilities & Skills
Blue Silver Grass
Tang San's primary martial soul is Blue Silver Grass, used mainly for battlefield control, restraint, poison delivery, and support of his hidden-weapon attacks.
- Can produce large quantities of vines for binding, obstruction, and area control. 141 158
- His third spirit ring grants Blue Silver Bamboo Cage, creating a durable segmented-vine prison that immobilizes targets while poison spreads through the vines. 141
- His fourth spirit skill, Blue Silver Prison, forms multiple reinforced grass cages around a target. 229
- The martial soul is vulnerable to overwhelming physical force and fire-based attacks. 141 163 229
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang San's second martial soul is the Clear Sky Hammer, a weapon-type martial soul he initially concealed and later cultivated in secret.
- Revealed during the battle against Blazing Fire Academy, where it allowed Tang San to defeat Huo Wu and reverse the match. 163
- Received two purple spirit rings before Tang San challenged Jiang Yi during the tournament. 229
- Its spirit rings provide stacked strength enhancement, but premature ring fusion leaves Tang San's aura unstable and damages his body. 224 230
- Tang Hao is teaching him the Clear Sky Sect's Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer technique; Tang San has reached sixty-four consecutive strikes. 242
Tang Sect Secret Arts
Tang San uses techniques retained from the Tang Sect, giving him options beyond conventional soul skills.
- Purple Demon Eye — strengthens perception and spiritual power; after fusing his head soul bone, Tang San hopes it can help resist illusions and mental attacks. 15 161
- Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track — evasive footwork that produces afterimages and allows rapid close-range movement. 142 163
- Mysterious Jade Hand — reinforces his palm strikes. 142
- Controlling Crane Capturing Dragon — redirects an opponent's momentum and attacks. 142
- Hidden weapons — includes sleeve arrows, crossbow bolts, Bone-Piercing Nails, Flying Locust Stones, coin darts, and poison smoke bombs. 142
- Yama's Invitation — Tang San created an incomplete version with roughly one-tenth of the true weapon's power, intending to use it against Jiang Yi. 154
Seven-in-One Fusion Skill
Tang San can serve as the focal point of Shrek's Seven-in-One Fusion Skill, receiving spirit power transmitted and amplified through six teammates.
- Concentrates the team's combined spirit power into the Clear Sky Hammer for a massive attack. 221 222
- Requires close coordination between all seven participants; a break in any link collapses the formation. 222
- Exceeds Tang San's physical limits, causing torn muscle fibers, damaged meridians, and near-total spirit-power depletion. 222
Spirit-Attribute Head Soul Bone
Tang San fused a head soul bone after Tang Hao saved him from Shi Nian.
- Greatly increases his spiritual power and improves the Purple Demon Eye. 161
- Raises his Blue Silver Grass control precision rather than directly strengthening the martial soul itself. 161
- Was chosen partly as a countermeasure against Jiang Yi's mental-control abilities. 161
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Godly Zhuge Crossbow — fired sixteen bolts at Shi Nian when Tang San recognized the assassination attempt. 159 160
- Hidden weapons — poisoned projectiles and throwing weapons carried in his sleeves. 142 145
- Yama's Invitation — incomplete poison weapon created during his time in Suotuo City. 154
- Spirit-attribute head soul bone — fused to enhance spiritual power and perception. 160 161
Relationships
- Xiao Wu — His closest companion; Tang San treats her as family and repeatedly risks himself to protect or rescue her. Her departure leaves him devastated. 14 25 165
- Tang Hao — Father and harsh mentor. Tang Hao scolds Tang San for weakness and disobedience but saves him from Shi Nian, provides a head soul bone, and later trains him personally. 145 160 242
- Yu Xiaogang — Teacher and strategist. Tang San trusts his guidance, though he secretly defies Yu Xiaogang's prohibition against cultivating the Clear Sky Hammer early. 26 159 161
- Jiang Yi — Primary rival and source of Tang San's recurring humiliation. Jiang Yi defeats him multiple times, mentally controls him into harming his teammates, and becomes Tang San's central target for revenge. 15 144 230
- Shrek Seven Devils — Teammates and companions. Their trust in Tang San is damaged after Jiang Yi's mental control causes Tang San to injure them with poisoned weapons. 144 153
Notable Quotes
“If I don't fight this battle, then everything I did before will have been for nothing.” 229
“I will definitely break through as soon as possible.” 242
Trivia
- Tang San's third spirit ring came from a 1,600-year Lone Bamboo rather than the Man Faced Demon Spider; he consequently did not obtain the Eight Spider Lances external soul bone. 26 29
- His arena title, Thousand Hand Asura, comes from his masked performances at the Suotuo Great Soul Arena. 102 141
- Tang San considers Feng Xiaotian's Thirty-Six Consecutive Slashes suspiciously similar to the Clear Sky Sect's Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer technique. 224
