Geography and Defenses

Lin Chang Commandery is the largest of the Great Zhou Dynasty's thirteen commanderies by area, yet has the smallest population. It governs hundreds of counties and is described as vast and sparsely populated. 71

Commandery City

The commandery city is substantially more prosperous than Hequ County and has nearly ten-meter-high bluestone walls. 72

• The city is protected in part because the True Martial Sect and Fierce Tiger Sect guard the eastern and western approaches between Mang Mountain and the commandery. 72

History

Sect Rivalry and Frontier Pressure

Before the major wars, Lin Chang Commandery had only two dominant sects: the True Martial Sect and the Fierce Tiger Sect. Their rivalry was intense because the commandery's sparse population and limited resources could not sustain many large sects without weakening all of them. 87 136

The commandery's proximity to Mang Mountain made its sects essential to local defense. When signs emerged that Mang Mountain's Demons and Exotic Beasts were preparing to invade, widespread panic spread among civilians, while both major sects prepared to take the front lines. 108

Martial Restriction Decree

Lin Chang Commandery was selected as the pilot region for Great Zhou's Martial Restriction Decree. The decree required sect elders and elite disciples to register and submit personal and sect information to the authorities. 163

Despite public criticism from neighboring Henei Commandery, both the True Martial Sect and Fierce Tiger Sect ultimately complied without open resistance. 165

Barbarian Invasion and Collapse

The Barbarian Tribe launched a large-scale invasion with an initial reported force of one hundred thousand elite troops. The commandery's military strength was considered insufficient to stop them. 154

The conflict later escalated drastically. The Barbarian Tribe abandoned its former homeland, advanced westward into Lin Chang Commandery with an army of more than two million, and brought tens of millions of civilians behind it. 236

At the same time, Weird entities began appearing in unprecedented numbers, while Demons and Exotic Beasts pressed the region from Mang Mountain. The Commandery Governor and Henei Commandery reinforcements were killed, and the True Martial Sect prepared to evacuate. 236

By this stage, Lin Chang Commandery had effectively fallen and was divided among the Barbarian Tribe, Exotic Beasts, and Demons. 236 267
